Senior Maoist leader surrenders

Hyderabad, June 09: Vexed with the Maoists philosophy and unhappy with the leadership, a senior leader of the CPI (Maoist) gave himself up to the police in Vizianagaram district today.

Kondagorri Kurma Rao alias Kurranna was a member of the Maoist Nagavali area committee and was allegedly involved in several offences, including blasting of Gummada railway station, a mandal development office, and attack on Udayagiri police station.

Vizianagaram district Superintendent of Police Y Gangadhar said the latter was vexed with the Maoist philosophy and wanted to lead a normal life.

He was also upset with Maoist leadership after having served the banned outfit in various capacities since 1993, Gangadhar said.

He said surrendered Maoists would be rehabilitated as per the government policy and added that they would not be harassed in any manner.
