Police arrest three chain snatchers, recover 31 tolas gold

The City Police on Monday arrested three alleged offenders who were allegedly involved in several cases of chain snatching.

Addressing a press conference, Assistance Commissioner of Police (Punjagutta Division) Venkata Narasaiah said that the accused – Shaik Mazhar, Syed Jaber and Mohd Sohai, aged between 19-20 years, were involved in chain snatching offences for the last six months. On a tip off, Punjagutta inspector P Sataiah along with his team, arrested the offenders and seized 31 tolas of stolen gold jewellery, worth about Rs 9.50 lakh from their possession.

Andhra pays tributes to YSR on death anniversary

Rich tributes were paid to late Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on his third death anniversary Sunday.

His wife and YSR Congress party honorary president Vijayalakshmi, daughter Sharmila, son-in-law Anil Kumar, daughter-in-law Bharati, brother YS Vivekananda Reddy and other family members paid tributes and offered special prayers at his grave in Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.

People from different parts of the state also reached Idupulapaya to pay homage to Rajasekhara Reddy, one of the most popular leaders in the state’s history.

Israeli PM slams NAM participants for not opposing Iran

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today slammed the NAM Summit participants for being silent spectators to the “anti-Semitic rants” of Iran during the recent meeting of the 120-member grouping in Tehran.

“No one stood up, no one left the hall,” Netanyahu said, criticising the inaction on the part of the Summit participants.

BJP’s Deeksha on Telangana from Monday in New Delhi

The leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party will sit on a three-day Deeksha (fast) from Monday demanding that the Centre introduce a Bill in Parliament for formation of Telangana State.

Talking to reporters here, BJP State president G Kishan Reddy said that the several senior leaders would participate in the Deeksha to be held at Jantar Mantar. Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley among others are expected to address the gathering at the fast venue over the three-day period.

Telangana announcement in a month, says Palwai

Rajya Sabha member Palwai Govardhan Reddy on Saturday stated that the Centre would announce formation of Telangana state within a month.

Talking to media persons , he said that the Congress party would stand by its stand on formation of Telangana state and honour its promise within a month. Once the coalgate scam issue is subsided, the Centre would focus its attention on Telangana statehood, he said.

Bangalore police arrest youth from old city for alleged terror links

In a joint operation a team of Bangalore Crime Branch along with the sleuths of Counter Intelligence Cell have arrested Obaid-ur-Rahman from Hyderabad for his alleged links with the terror outfits.

The 21 year old Obaid is a resident of Gulshan-E-Iqbal colony at Hafiz Babanagar and he is a B.com dropout of Anwarululoom College in city. Immediately after the arrest Obaid was shifted to Bangalore by the crime branch sleuths. The arrested youth is the close relative of Moulana Mohammed Naseeruddin.

Subbarao for stable taxation and investment regime

Reserve Bank India Governor D Subbarao has appeared to have joined the debate on the recent controversial retrospective taxation provisions saying there is need to have a stable policy, taxation and investment regime to attract foreign capital.

“India has to run a stable policy regime and have a stable taxation and investment regime,” he said during his lecture at the Asia Society here.

Elaborate security arrangements in twin cities for YSRCP’s bandh

The Hyderabad and Cyberabad police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of State-wide bandh call given by the YSR Congress party over the power crisis.

City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma has warned of serious action against those who forcibly close any business establishment or educational institutions. “Any forcible closure or coercion, direct or indirect will attract the penal action,” he said. Therefore, elaborate arrangements are being made to ensure that the routine life is not disrupted due to bandh, he said.

VHR dismisses NDTV’s survey

Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Thursday dismissed the survey done by the NDTV projecting that YSR Congress party would win majority of seats in Andhra Pradesh, if elections are held now.

BJP to hold Telangana Poru Deeksha in Delhi from Sept 3

The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday reviewed the arrangements for the Telangana Poru Deekhsha proposed to be held in the New Delhi from September 3-5.

Addressing the meeting of office bearers of Telangana districts’ office bearers at the State BJP headquarters at Nampally, BJP State president G Kishan Reddy said that the Telangana Poru Deekhsha was aimed at mounting pressure on the Centre over the formation of Telangana State. He also discussed the strategy to be adopted for the successful conduct of Deeksha in the national capital.

Housing schemes’ beneficiaries to get localised services

Housing Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday stated that his department was taking all steps to rectify the lapses such as typographical errors and others at the initial stages of admission.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat, he said that the District Collectors have been given full powers to look into the issue. “There is no need for beneficiaries to come to State headquarters for rectifying mistakes and they can sort out the same at the district level,” he said.

Saif and Kareena to wed in October, says Sharmila

Though Bollywood couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor continue to maintain silence over their much awaited wedding, his mother Sharmila Tagore has indicated that it would take place in October.

“The wedding would take place in October,” Sharmila told reporters here yesterday.

However, she did not disclose the date of the wedding and said only Saif can confirm that.

Gujarat: Absconding Tanzanian national rearrested

A Tanzanian national, who had escaped from police custody in Dwarka town of Jamnagar district on Monday, was rearrested last night, police said here.

Ahemad Shabadi Shadadi (32) was arrested one-and-half years back with 20 others near Dwarka coast when their boat trespassed into Indian waters.

The Union Government later deported others, but Shadadi was not allowed to go back as Tanzanian Embassy failed to provide necessary documents to confirm his identity.

TDP corporators squat at Mayor’s chamber

TDP corporators staged a sit in outside the Mayor’s chambers protesting against the laxity of GHMC in resolving people’s problems.

CBI Court rejects Nimmagadda’s bail plea

The CBI Special Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of noted industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad on the ground that investigations into the alleged irregularities in implementation of Vanpic project were still pending.
The court while rejecting his bail petition, conceded to the arguments of Central Bureau of Investigation that Prasad had invested nearly Rs 800 crore in the businesses of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and committed several deviations from the agreed plan for the Vanpic project to construct two ports and a huge industrial corridor in Prakasam and Guntur Districts.

Dy CM meets Shinde; avoids discussing Telangana issue

Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Wednesday stated that the issue of separate Telangana statehood demand did not figure in their talks with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Police foil TDP’s Chalo Secretariat rally, arrest MLAs

Several MLAs and MLCs of the Telugu Desam Party were arrested by the City Police when they staged dharna over the power crisis issue at Indira Park here on Wednesday.

The TDP legislators and activists led by Errabelli Dayakar Rao staged a sit-in protest at Indira Park demanding that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy give an assurance to take all-party delegation to the Centre over the energy crisis. He threatened that if the Chief Minister fails to give an assurance by 2 pm, then the TDP MLAs would organise Chalo Secretariat protest.

Cash-for-bail scam: HC dismisses bail plea of suspended judge

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition of suspended judge D Prabhakar Rao who was arrested for his alleged role in the cash-for-bail scam involving former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy.

Justice Govinda Rajulu denied the relief to Rao observing that he had moved the bail application before the expiry of stipulated 60-day period (since arrest) and hence can not seek the benefit under section 167 of CrPC.

On completion of the 60-day period, the petitioner is entitled for bail as a matter of right, he pointed out.
