The State Police on Sunday began probe into the factors that led to the death of former Union Minister and TDP senior leader K Yerran Naidu in a tragic road mishap.

Yerran Naidu met with the accident when the car he, along with four others, was traveling in hit an oil tanker from behind near Ranasthalam in the wee hours of Friday. The TDP leader suffered grievous bleeding injuries and died after being shifted to a hospital. However, there are allegations that the ambulance came very late after the accident and it did not even had an oxygen cylinder.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday alleged that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was planning to conduct early general elections to escape from its failures, saying no amount of “make-up” (reshuffle) can prevent its “pack-up” in 2014.

“There were indications that the UPA government might go for vote-on-account, announce populist schemes and then dissolve the Parliament in March next year as it has miserably failed on all fronts and is steeped in several scams,” the former BJP president said in a press conference in Visakhapatnam.

A housewife was abandoned by her husband in the Bhongir area hospital in the district for delivering fourth girl child on Saturday.

According to the information, the man was very angry and demoralized with his wife delivering female child for the fourth time. He reportedly walked out of the hospital in a huff with his three daughters. The woman was a native of Laxmidevi thanda under Bommalaramaram mandal in the district.

State Lokayukta Justice B. Subhashan Reddy on Saturday directed the Yashoda Hospital management to collect medical treatment charges of two grievously injured girls from Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). It may be mentioned here that two girls were grievously injured while their parents died when an RTC bus hit them on the Tank bund road last week.

NTR TDP president and wife of late NTR Nandamuri Laxmi Parvathi here on Saturday announced that she would join the YSR Congress Party soon.

Speaking to the media, Laxmi Parvathi said she would write a letter to the Election Commission of India resigning to the post of president of NTR TDP.

Six persons have been held in two separate cases for allegedly selling and carrying narcotics, with officials seizing over 10.5 kg of the banned substance worth around Rs 3.18 crore from their possession, police said.

Two persons were held by Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad here after 10 kg of narcotic drug, believed to be Methaqualone, popularly known as Mandrax, worth Rs 3 crore was allegedly found in their possession.

In an deliberate attempt to pollute the peaceful atmosphere in city communal elements stabbed two Muslim youths at Afzalgunj tonight.

According to the sources Majeed Ali Khan and Md Azeemuddin both resident of Bandlaguda,were on their way back home,while a group of unknown miscreants suspected to be communal elements stopped the duo and stabbed with a sharp edged weapon.

On commotion the miscreants fled from the scene.The injured were shifted to Princess Esra Hospital in Shahalibanda. The police have registered a case and taken up investigation.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has held that a Muslim man’s power to divorce his wife is not “unrestricted or unqualified”.

Justice Hasnain Masoodi in his 23-page judgment extensively went into details of the Shariah law and Quranic injunctions to hold that a “husband cannot have unrestricted or unqualified power to pronounce the Talaaq.”

The court delved into the fundamental sources of Shariah law to understand the concept of marriage in Islam, the rights of the parties to the marriage contract and the mode and manner the contract is dissolved.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted bail to mining baron and former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in the cash-for-bail scam case.

Gali’s bail plea in the cash-for-bail case was earlier rejected by the Anti-Corruption Court. Subsequently, he approached the High Court and secured bail on Wednesday. However, Gali will continue to be lodged in the Chanchalguda Jail as he was accused in the illegal mining cases of Obulapuram Mining Company and AMC.

Congress MLC P Venkat Rao on Wednesday criticised the MLAs who are shifting loyalties to other political parties.
Talking to reporters here, Venkat Rao said that the MLAs should remain loyal to the political parties on whose ticket they got elected. He said a party selects a person as its candidate hoping that he/she would serve his constituency for a period of five years on the party’s manifesto.

However, he said by shifting loyalties before the end of their five-year term, the MLAs were not only cheating the parties, but the people who voted for them in the last elections.

Nearly 20 students affiliated with the Osmania University Joint Action Committee were taken into custody on Wednesday when they staged dharna before the State Secretariat demanding boycott of Andhra Pradesh Formation Day celebrations.
Holdings banners of OUJAC, the students tried to barge into the Secretariat while shouting pro-Telangana slogans. However, the security personnel foiled their attempt and took them into custody.

At least four persons were killed and 20 others injured when the lorry they were travelling in overturned in the posh Banjara Hills locality here in the early hours Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 2.30 am when the driver of the vegetable-laden lorry lost control while taking a turn near GVK Mall resulting in the death of two persons on the spot.

Two among the injured succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

The remaining were undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the city.

Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday, Revenue Minister Dr N Raghuveera Reddy informed that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch the programme at Puttaparthy of Anantapur district. Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday expressed confidence that inclusion of 11 ministers from Andhra Pradesh in the Union Cabinet would strengthen the party in the State.

Mild tremors were felt in several parts of the State on Monday.

Panic-stricken residents rushed out of their homes in Prakasam, Guntur, Nalgonda, Krishna, Khammam and Ranga Reddy districts. The tremors, which lasted for three to four seconds, were of intensity below 2.8 on the Richter scale. Describing the tremors as seismic vibrations, the scientists at National Geophysical Research Institute said they could not be recorded at seismic observatory as they were of low intensity.

City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma on Monday informed that as many as 25 people have been arrested so far, in connection with the recent incidents of communal violence that occurred in different parts of the city.

Talking to reporters here, the Commissioner said that eight people were arrested from Gandhi Nagar and Musheerabad areas each and nine arrests were made in Mangalhaat locality. He did not rule out the arrest of more persons for their alleged involvement in the incidents.
