Most of the dead in Tunisia attack were British, announces PM Habib Essid

Most of those killed in a massacre at a Tunisian beach resort claimed by the Islamic State group were British, the Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid said on Saturday.

Burundi rejects United Nations call for election delay

Burundi’s ambassador to the United Nations has told the Security Council that elections will go ahead as planned on Monday despite a call from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for a postponement. “The government simply cannot accept to tumble head-first into an institutional vacuum, into a chasm,” Ambassador Albert Shingiro yesterday told the 15-member council.

158 Pak Hindus get Indian citizenship 3,733 Long Term Visa

According to Home Ministry spokesman, 26 camps of the Task Force were organised in 26 districts across the country during which 1,681 applications for citizenship and 1,665 for LTV were approved till May this year.

“While citizenship has been granted to 158 Pakistani nationals, LTV has been granted to as many as 3,733 Pakistani nationals during the period,” Home Ministry spokesman said in a statement.

There are thousands of applications pending before the government for granting visa for a longer term.

New possible drug target may help fight malaria

A new study has identified a target for inhibiting malaria parasite invasion.

Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health researchers found that a malaria parasite protein called calcineurin is essential for parasite invasion into red blood cells.

Human calcineurin is already a proven target for drugs treating other illnesses including adult rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, and the new findings suggest that parasite calcineurin should be a focus for the development of new antimalarial drugs.

Even though the scheduled tour of the Indian team to Zimbabwe next month is yet to be officially confirmed, the national selectors have been told by the BCCI to pick the team in Delhi on June 29.
