Russia to build new intercontinental missile by 2018

Russia will build a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by 2018, a senior military official has revealed.

“Construction of the missile is ongoing,” Strategic Missile Forces commander Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev said, adding that it is to be completed by 2018.

The new missile is to replace the R-36M2 Voyevoda (NATO reporting name SS-18 Satan) missile. So far all of Russia’s recent ICBM projects, both sea-launched (Bulava) and ground-based (Topol-M, Yars), have been solid fuel.

Man killed mother-in-law to marry sister-in-law

Russia to increase energy exports to Asia-Pacific

Russia would increase exports of oil and natural gas to the Asia-Pacific to counterbalance instability in supplies from the Middle East, according to an APEC expert.

The proposed increase was expected to account for between 22 and 25 percent of Russia’s total exports by 2020, Russian APEC Study Centre deputy director Gleb Ivashentsov said at the ongoing 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Russia is ready to participate in the development of the Asian energy sector, including joint projects to build nuclear power plants, he said.

Pleasing to see spinners fight on unhelpful tracks: Dhoni

India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Monday lauded his new spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha for putting up an admirable performance on tracks that were not exactly tailor-made for spinners.

“It was pleasing to see them (spinners) fight batsmen on a wicket, which was not helping them, specially in the first innings of both Test matches,” Dhoni told reporters.

Chief Justice of India names Justice Kabir as his successor

Chief Justice of India SH Kapadia, who retires this month, has recommended the name of seniormost Supreme Court judge Justice Altamas Kabir as his successor, setting in motion the process of change of guard in the apex court.

Sources in the law ministry said Justice Kapadia, due to retire on September 28, recommended the name of Justice Kabir (64) recently.

UK reassures Ecuador on Assange’s human rights

Seeking to resume talks with Ecuador, Britain today reassured WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and the Latin American country over the perceived risk to his human rights if he were to be extradited to Sweden to face allegations of sexual offences.

Foreign secretary William Hague said in a statement in parliament that the apprehension that 40-year-old Assange may be extradited again from Sweden to a third country were unfounded given Sweden’s commitments to human rights and the fact that UK’s consent would be needed if the onward extradition were to be sought.

Five Killed, many injured in Syria blast

At least five people were killed and about 30 injured in a car bomb blast in the Jaramana neighbourhood of Damascus, reported Al-Mayadeen TV Monday.

Until recently, Jaramana area was viewed as one of the safest districts in Damascus and a haven for people displaced by the ongoing civil conflict in Syria.

This was the third blast in the predominantly Christian suburb of the Syrian capital since Aug 27 when at least two people were killed. On the following day, a total of 12 people were killed in twin blasts during a funeral procession of first blast’s victims.

PM rules out immediate cancellation of coal blocks

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday ruled out immediate cancellation of 142 coal block allocations as demanded by BJP and made it clear that he was ready for a fight with the opposition on the issue.

Singh conveyed his determination about not going for immediate cancellation of the coal block allocations informally to some senior ministers in Delhi, sources said.

BJP has demanded cancellation of 142 coal blocks but the prime minister is of the view that this could not be done immediately, the sources said.

Science Training workshop for High School Teachers of Deeni Madrasas

Police constables’ test results announced

(Siasat News)Results of the recruitment test held for appointments to the 20429 posts of constables in various sections of Hyderabad City Police have been declared. The results are very disappointing. The question appears were made so tough that it was very difficult for the candidates of SSC standard to answer. As a result which only 14,358 candidates could pass the test and 1, 12, 602 candidates failed to clear it.

Four girls Kidnapped from Rescue Home

(Siasat News)Four girls from the Rescue Home located at Uppal were kidnapped last night. Agitated with this incident, many women attacked this center and demanded the Govt. to shift it to some other place.

It is said that such of the girls who are rescued by the police from prostitution are kept in this center.

Separate AMU union for girls

Girls in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will now have a union of their own.

AMU vice chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah said the university will have two separate student unions — one for boys and another for girls.

Gen Shah said the AMU Women’s College has traditionally had a separate students union for girls.

Once this was done away this, it led to cases of indiscipline, with members of the AMU Students Union barging into the Women’s College at odd hours.

The lady teachers of AMU are also keen on a separate staff association, it is learnt.

Two Pakistani Taliban leaders killed

Two key commanders of the Pakistani Taliban have been killed in clashes with security forces in northwest Pakistan, the Dawn newspaper reported Sunday.

The clashes took place in Salarzai in Bajaur region. The Tehrik-i-Taliban commanders killed Saturday night were identified as Shahid Omar and Huzaifa.

Witnesses told Dawn about fierce fighting in Lakian, Batwar and Tendo Dak areas.

Two civilians were also killed when mortar shells reportedly fired from Afghanistan fell on a house in Nawagai region.

Child hurt in Pakistan quake

A child was injured when the roof of a house collapsed after a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Pakistan Sunday, Xinhua reported.

The earthquake was felt in Sibi city in Balochistan province, officials said.

16 killed in Afghan terror attack

Armed men opened indiscriminate fire and killed 16 civilians Sunday in northern Afghanistan to avenge a Taliban attack, Xinhua reports.

The attack took place in Kanam area of Kunduz city.

A witness said a group led by a man named Qadir carried out the attack in retaliation as Taliban militants killed one of his men late Saturday. Police said several people went missing after the attack.

Andhra pays tributes to YSR on death anniversary

Rich tributes were paid to late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on his third death anniversary Sunday.

His wife and YSR Congress party honorary president Vijayalakshmi, daughter Sharmila, son-in-law Anil Kumar, daughter-in-law Bharati, brother Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy and other family members paid tributes and offered special prayers at his grave in Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.

People from different parts of the state also reached Idupulapaya to pay homage to Rajasekhara Reddy, one of the most popular leaders in the state’s history.

New Zealand 29/0 in second innings at lunch

New Zealand were 29/0 in the second innings against India as they went into lunch on the third day of the second cricket Test match here at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium Sunday.

Rajasthan’s textiles push with nine dedicated parks

The central government has approved nine textile parks worth Rs.1,500 crore in Rajasthan, and an additional grant of Rs.400 crore to promote this industry in the state, a senior official here said.

An assurance has also been given that Vastra 2012, the international textile fair to be held here from Nov 22-25 would be a grand success, the official said, referring to a meeting with Union Textiles Secretary Kiran Dhingra.

Blinded by light, this family sees no hope

Darkness has become a life-long curse for two generations of a family in a Rajasthan village. This family has 15 members, including eight children, who are blinded by daylight.

Eighty-year-old Elayachi Devi of Chandawa village near Alsisar town in Jhunjhunu district, some 150 km from state capital Jaipur, has six sons and a daughter. Three of the sons, Jeetaram, Jagdish and Palaram, and the daughter, Sursi Devi, were born with the disease where they can’t see in the day but can after dusk.

Jeetaram’s wife Sharda, their six daughters and a son have day blindness too.
