Employees who may have defaulted on payment, however, cannot object to this deduction of dues at source, according to the new clause introduced in the ‘terms and conditions’ by the country’s largest private sector lender ICICI Bank and expected to be adopted by others as well.

MNS activists held for gang-raping minor

Mumbai, July 26: A 13-year-old domestic maid was allegedly gang-raped by four persons suspected to be Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists in suburban Andheri, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Ganesh Gatkal (29), Ganesh Kale (30), Narendra Salunkhe (26) and Umesh Borande (28), were arrested from Marol village, last evening, they said adding the victim also lives in the same locality.

According to the police, the victim was sexually assaulted on Sunday evening when she along with her elder sister was going to her aunt’s place.

Prime Minister will arrive at the ENC’s airbase INS Dega in Visakhapatnam by a special IAF plane along with his wife at 11 am and drive straight to the naval dockyard to commission INS Arihant into the sea.

Raped eight-year-old shunned by family

America, July 26: A refugee girl aged eight who was gang-raped in a shed by four boys from her homeland, Liberia, has been shunned by her family.

The boys, aged nine, 10, 13, and 14, lured her to the shed in Phoenix, Arizona, with the promise of chewing gum. All four have been charged with sexual assault and three with kidnapping. Liberia’s President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who has tried to change attitudes to the issue by admitting that she was raped, condemned the family’s reaction.

Mumbai Attacks Trial Postponed Till July 29th

Islamabad, July 25: A Pakistani anti-terror court on Saturday adjourned till July 29 the trial of five LeT operatives, including its operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, accused of involvement in the Mumbai attacks.
Judge Baqir Ali Rana of anti-terror court no 2, who is conducting the trial in the high-security Adiala Jail in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, put off the matter after hearing arguments by the prosecution and defence, sources said.

ICICI’s Net Profit Of Quarter Increase 21%

Mumbai, July 25: The country’s largest private sector lender, ICICI Bank, on Saturday reported a 20.63 percent growth in standalone net profit at Rs 878.22 crore for the first quarter ended June 30.

The bank had a net profit of Rs 728.01 crore in the June quarter of last fiscal, the bank said in a filing to the National Stock Exchange.

Interest income during the quarter fell 9.61 percent to Rs 7,133.44 crore, from Rs 7,891.80 crore in the same period last fiscal.

Arabic-Language TV Channel Launched By China

Beijing, July 26: Chinese state television launched an Arabic-language channel beamed to the Middle East and Africa on Saturday.

The 24-hour channel will air in 22 Arabic-speaking countries, reaching a total population of nearly 300 million people, China Central Television said in a statement.

The channel “will serve as an important bridge to strengthen communication and understanding between China and Arab countries,” said a CCTV vice president, Zhang Changming, in the statement.

Chennai, July 25: Expressing concern over loss of man-hours due to lawyers’ striking work over various issues, Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan today suggested they resort to protest only if something serious happens to the legal fraternity or they run the risk of being “relegated” by society.

“A large number of days are lost by strike, which is very unfortunate. Resort to strike only if something serious happens to the legal fraternity,” he said after inaugurating the High Court Judges Guest House here.

Lifer for three in double murder

Muzaffarnagar, July 25: Three persons were today sentenced to life by a local court in a 12-year-old double murder case.

The Additional District Sessions judge Vinod Kumar Mishra also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the three convicts — Om Prakash, Rajvir and Ramvir.

Two persons, Sushil Kumar and Bundi, were shot dead by five persons, including the trio, on June 6, 1997 in Bijapur village of the district.

Two of the five accused have died during the pendency of the case.

Abducted boy from UP handed over to uncle

Coimbatore, July 25: Ending his five-day long ordeal, a 12-year old boy from Uttar Pradesh, who was abandoned at the railway station here after being kidnapped by two persons, was today handed over to his uncle by the Railway Police.

Ayush, hailing from Orai in Uttar Pradesh, was found abandoned at the railway station here on July 23 by Railway Protection Force personnel.

Failure to declare assets can be ground for judges removal: CJI

Chennai, July 25: Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan today said failure to furnish details of assets or declaring false details by Judges would amount to “misconduct”, which could be a ground for their removal.

“Failure to declare or declaring false details can be presumed to be a misconduct on the part of the judge and this can be a ground for removal of the judge,” the CJI, who is in the city to inaugurate a guest house for judges, said.

Mumbai, July 25: Former Congress MLA from Vidarbha, Nana Patole today joined BJP, while Abhijeet Sawant, the winner of the first ‘Indian Idol’ show, joined its alliance partner Shiv Sena.

Patole had contested the recent Lok Sabha poll from Gondia constituency against NCP’s Praful Patel. He joined BJP in presence of party general secretary Gopinath Munde and state BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

Patole would highlight the issues facing farmers in the state, particularly in Vidarbha, which has witnessed a spate of farmers’ suicides, Munde said.

London, July 25: Ricky Ponting can’t understand why he was picked as the “bad guy” by fans at Lord’s during the second Ashes Test and says he was surprised by the heckling he got at the home of cricket.

“I’m not sure why I was so much the bad guy with the fans. Lord’s is the one place around England where you don’t expect to be heckled,” Ponting wrote in ‘The Daily Telegraph’.
