The follow up of the investment proposals received by the state government during the Partnership Summit 2012 has been turning into a farce.

More than a month after the meet, chief secretary Pankaj Dwivedi has issued orders appointing nodal officers for the speedy implementation of the projects with investment of `5,000 crore and above.

The idea behind appointing nodal officers is that they dedicate their time and energy in pursuing the proposal with the respective investor on one hand and various government departments on the other.

Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath on Friday said that the prospects of Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu wresting power in the State from the Congress regime were remote.

Talking to media persons, Sailajanath said that Naidu has started day dreaming after the successful ride of Samajwadi Party’s ‘cycle’ in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. However, the prospects of Naidu coming to power in the State were highly remote, he said.

Who will be CM; Mulayam to decide

Central Parliamentary Board of Samajwadi Party has put the stamp on party president Mulayam Singh Yadav becoming the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the fourth time in the state.

The Board, which met here last afternoon, took a decision in this regard electing Mr Yadav as the leader of the Legislature Party, SP national secretary Kiranmoy Nanda told UNI here. Though, he said the formal announcement will be made in the SP Legislature Party meeting after Holi festival, some inner party sources indicated that Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav may put the crown his son Akhilesh Yadav’s head.

New Muslim endowment fund for Islamic education

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) will be creating a new Muslim endowment fund beginning with a capital sum of $3 million for the benefit of Islamic education.

This was announced in Parliament today by Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim.

Over the last two centuries, Muslim pioneer philanthropists have created wakaf, or Muslim endowment. The annual income from these wakaf supports the funding of religious and charitable programmes in perpetuity.

‘Rs.7,000-crore investment proposals in Million Farmers initiative’

A total of 35 proposals, with an investment of Rs.7,000 crore, were received from various companies for the “Million Farmers” initiative in public private partnership, a Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) official said Thursday.

The proposals will cover 11.8 lakh farmers on a total crop area of 12 lakh hectares in 17 states. According to FICCI, the project is almost in the stage of approval by the agriculture ministry.

No tribute is enough for Dravid: Tendulkar

India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has said no tribute can be enough for his teammate Rahul Dravid, who is expected to announce his retirement from international cricket Friday.

“I have shared my best moments with Rahul Dravid. No tribute can be enough for him,” Tendulkar, who is four months younger to Dravid, was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Tendulkar said he will be missing Dravid, who made his international debut five years after the batting maestro donned the India jersey.

“For me there’s only one Dravid. I will miss him in the dressing room and on the field,” he said.

“While N Chandrababu Naidu has been speaking out of frustration as he has become irrelevant and outdated to politics, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has lost contact with the people as he was imposed upon on them by the party high command,” party spokesperson, Gattu Ramachandra Rao told reporters here.

Mumbai’s toxic Holi: Nearly 175 hospitalised for colour poisoning

Holi celebrations in Mumbai turned sour when around 175 people, most of them children, suffered colour poisoning. Many of them were hospitalised following allergic reactions. The incident occurred in Shastrinagar area of Dharavi this afternoon when Holi celebrations were in full swing.

Toxins in the colour are said to be the cause of the infection. Patients reportedly suffered from dizziness after Holi celebrations and were rushed to the Lokmanya Tilak municipal general hospital at Sion.

“The affected persons complained of giddiness and vomiting,” a hospital official said.

A woman was arrested for possessing four Indian passports which she obtained by submitting fake documents and identity proofs on two names. On information, Bhavani Nagar police raided a house at Talabkatta and held a 46-year-old housewife, Haleema Begum alias Salma Begum for possessing four passports.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son, Akhilesh, met with Uttar Pradesh’s Governor BL Joshi on Wednesday evening and staked their claim to form government. Their party had a sweeping majority-224 of the state’s 403 seats- making their task fairly easy.

Sources say the oath taking ceremony will take place on March 12 and although Akhilesh has made it amply clear that ‘Netaji’ will be the Chief Minister, there is a surging demand for the 39-year-old to be at the helm of affairs. The party has maintained that the final decision will only be taken after Holi.

Saudi diplomat shot dead in Bangladesh

A Saudi junior diplomat was gunned down near his house in Gulshan in capital Dhaka early, Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Al Bussairy has confirmed.

“One of our diplomatic staff was killed near his house in Gulshan this morning. This is sad,” the Ambassador told UNI over phone yesterday.

Khalf al Ali, 45, the Second Secretary at the Saudi Embassy, was killed while returning to his house. The motive of the killing could not be ascertained immediately.

Four killed in fire

At least four people were killed Wednesday evening in a huge fire in a firecracker unit in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, police said.

The incident took place near Atmakur in Nellore, about 500 km from here.Four workers were killed in an explosion. Three of them died instantly.

The entire building was gutted in the fire, which is being investigated by police.
