Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara, has caught the eye of various filmmakers after they saw her pictures in a glossy magazine.

Sixteen-year-old Sara was on the cover of Hello magazine with mother Amrita Singh three months ago.

Amrita Singh confirmed the reports and said: “Five eminent filmmakers called and said they wanted her to be a heroine in their next project.”

However, Sara has no stars in her eyes just yet and her current plan is to go to Yale for further studies.

‘Tantrik’ awarded seven-year jail term for raping woman

Bhawani Baba, a ‘tantrik’ claiming to have spiritual powers, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a Delhi court for raping a 28-year-old widow by hypnotising her on pretext of solving her problems.

Jai Narain, 41, an occultist who was popularly known as Bhawani Baba, had raped the woman in May 2009 by locking her inside a jhuggi after making her smell some substance during a ritual, the court concluded in its judgement.

Thousands Stranded As Mumbai Rail Disrupted by Fire

Thousands of commuters were stranded on the Central Railway (CR) stations after a midnight fire in a signal cabin.

It will take three to four days to fully restore the traffic, a CR spokesperson said adding that services on the Harbour line were also hampered.

Only 70 per cent of the normal suburban services would be operated today, he said, adding that 4 long distance trains coming from Pune and Manmad have been cancelled.

“There was a fire in the signal cabin between Kurla and Vidyavihar stations at midnight and there was heavy damage to signalling gears,” the spokesperson said.

Beef festival turns Osmania into battlefied, student stabbed

A student of the Osmania university here was stabbed for supporting a beef festival organised by several student groups opposing “food fascism” in hostels, police said Monday. The beef festival saw clashes, which saw five students being injured, and even led to vehicles being burnt.

The situation in the university was tense as violence continued in the campus past midnight with a group of students attacking the ‘C’ hostel and stabbing a student for supporting the beef festival. Police said the injured student was admitted to Gandhi Hospital here.

Student commits suicide for Telangana?

A degree final year student on Sunday committed suicide by setting himself ablaze reportedly for the cause of Telangana.

The deceased, 22-year-old Dasari Naresh, who was doing BSc (Maths) final year from Nivedita Degree College, took the extreme step at his residence at Kothakota on Sunday morning.

According to Kothakota police, Naresh wrote a four-page suicide note and kept it on the television set. Then he locked himself in the bathroom and committed suicide by setting himself ablaze. He died on the spot.

Rajasthan family keeps mentally ill woman in chains

Unable to pay for her treatment and with no assistance from the government, the family of a 65-year-old mentally ill woman in Rajasthan’s Karauli district has kept her chained for more than seven years now.

Ramshri Devi is a resident of Khohara Ghusethi village near Hindon town in the district, over 200 km from Jaipur. She is sometimes tied to a tree and sometimes confined to a room with her legs tied to the bed.

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that it has decided to restrict Haj pilgrimage at government subsidy to Muslims only as a “once in a lifetime” affair as against the existing policy of “once in five years”.

Mild quakes in Maharashtra, Gujarat

Two mild earthquakes, measuring 4.5 and 4.9 on the Richter scale, shook Gujarat and Maharashtra here Saturday, a top weather official said.

The first tremor was felt at 8.53 a.m. in Gujarat with the epicentre in Bhuj, said Director, Weather Forecasting, West, Rajeev Nair.

Barely two hours later, at 11.05 a.m. another quake was felt, this time with the epicentre in Satara district of western Maharashtra, he said.

“We are still awaiting details of the impact of these two tremors, but so far there are no reports of any human casualties or damage,” Nair told IANS.
