Hyderabad to celebrate Eid-ul-fitr on Monday

Hyderabad, September 21: The Ruhat-E-Hilal Committee on Sunday confirmed the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar here today.

‘Eid-Al-Fitr’, which crowns a month of fasting, prayers and Qur’an recitation, today came to an end. The reowned Muslim scholar Janab Qubul Pasha Shuttari of Ruhat-E-Hilal Committee made a formal announcement in this regard.

On this occassion special prayers would be offered at various Eid-Gahs in twin cities.

MIT honours teen Muslim girl developing moon robot

Chennai, September 15: A fifteen-year-old Indian girl is busy working on a robot which can land on the moon, walk nearly 500 metres and scoop ice from the lunar surface. Hanaan Binth Hashim from Kozhikode, in Kerala, has also designed a launch vehicle model capable of taking spacecraft into the orbit of Mars.

The prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology has offered her a seat in aeronautical and astronautical engineering making her the first-ever Indian student to be admitted to the institute without tests or interviews.

YSR Reddy laid to rest in hometown Pulivendula

Hyderabad, September 04: Tens of thousands of grief stricken people turned out Friday to pay last respects to the late Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, whose body was kept at a stadium in Hyderabad before being flown to his native Pulivendula town in Kadapa district and buried.

The body was flown in an army helicopter from Begumpet airport after thousands of people paid their last respects at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad.

Gujarat HC sets aside ban on Jaswant Singh’s book

Ahmedabad, September 04: The Gujarat High Court on Friday set aside the ban on Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh’s book Jinnah: India-Partition, Independence imposed by the Gujarat government.

Gujarat government had sought time to file a fresh notification but the court did not grant it.The original notification by the state government had said that Jaswant’s book was objectionable, misleading and against public tranquility. The court observed that the state government gave no grounds for the notification.

Thousands turn out for YSR’s last journey

Hyderabad, September 04 (Siasat news): Tens of thousands of grief stricken people turned out Friday to pay last respects to the late Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, whose body first taken to the Gandhi Bhawan for 10 minutes and will be kept at a stadium in Hyderabad before being flown to his native Pulivendula town in Kadapa district for the last rites.

A sea of humanity waited outside the Lal Bahadur Stadium in the heart of the city for the cortege to arrive from his residence five kilometres away.

YSR body reaches Hyderabad: Updated

Hyderabad, September 03: The chief minister’s body has arrived at Hyderabad. It will be taken to his official residence. From 9 am to 1 pm tomorrow, YSR’s body will be at Lal Bahadur Stadium for public viewing. He will then be taken to his village, Pulivendula, for last rites.

Pan Am 103 bomber freed in exchange for oil?

The Scottish government’s decision to release the only person convicted in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 was made because the United Kingdom is busy trying to secure oil deposits in Libya, several UK newspapers reported Sunday.

Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi was released from prison in Scotland earlier this month on grounds of compassion. The former Libyan agent is dying of pancreatic cancer. He arrived in Libya to a hero’s welcome after his release, raising the ire of the American families of the Pan Am bombing’s victims.
