Gold tumbles to one-month low on selling by stockists

Gold prices tumbled to one-month low by falling Rs 350 to Rs 29,950 per 10 grams in the national capital on Wednesday on fresh selling by stockists against fall in demand at prevailing levels.

Silver, however, extended gains for the third day by adding Rs 50 to Rs 42,300 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units.

Sensex up 108 points in early trade; Infosys surges over 3%

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose over 108 points in early trade on Thursday, following gains in IT stocks, after Infosys reported a better-than-expected rise of 24.9 percent in Q4 net profit at Rs 2,992 crore.

However, disappointing IIP numbers released after market hours on Friday, limited the gain.

Besides, a mixed trend in the other Asian markets also influenced the trading sentiment here.

Kate Middleton’s phone was hacked 155 times, on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2005, it has been revealed.

The News of the World’s former royal editor Clive Goodman first hacked the Duchess’ voicemail in December 2005 and also hacked Prince William’s phone 35 times and Prince Harry’s on nine occasions, the BBC reported.

Earlier, Goodman, who is of seven defendants, including former News of the World editors Andy Coulson and Rebekah Brooks, had earlier said that he only hacked aides and denies conspiring to commit misconduct in public office.

World’s oldest giant sperm found in Australia

In an extraordinary find, scientists have discovered ancient giant sperm – thought to have been longer than the crustacean male’s entire body – at a world heritage fossil site in Australia.

Tightly coiled up inside the sexual organs of the fossilised freshwater crustaceans known as ostracods, these preserved giant sperm are from tiny shrimps that lived at least 17 million years ago.

The researchers estimate the fossil sperm are about 1.3 millimetres long – about the same length or slightly longer than the ostracod itself.

Motorola launches Moto E in India

Motorola Mobility Tuesday launched its affordable smartphone the Moto E, priced at Rs.6,999.

“The Moto E would be exclusively available on Flipkart.com for as little as Rs.6,999 starting tonight at 00:00 hours. India was the first market where the phone was unveiled followed by launches in five other countries in the world,” the company said in a statement here.

Sensex up 33 points in early trade on sustained buying

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 33 points in early trade today on sustained buying by funds and retail investors amid a mixed trend in other Asian markets.

The 30-share index was up by 33.00 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 23,904.23. The gauge had touched an all-time intra-day high of 24,068.94 in yesterday’s trade.

The Sensex had gained 1,527.19 points in the previous three sessions after exit polls predicted that BJP-led NDA will form the government at the Centre. The NSE Nifty also moved up by 15.40 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 7,124.15.

Indian cabbie admits to indecent assault on drunk woman

An Indian taxi driver in Australia has admitted in court to assaulting a drunk woman.

Jagdeep Singh, 25, picked up the woman from The Grand hotel in Adelaide in the early hours in December 2012, and close to her home she crawled out of the taxi and vomited, ABC News reported Tuesday.

A court heard that he put his hand up the woman’s dress, touched and then kissed her.

The defence lawyer said that the cabbie should not be jailed for indecently assaulting a drunk passenger because he already faced the likelihood of deportation to India.

Maruti Alto crosses 25 lakh unit sales mark

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday said its compact car Alto has become the second model from the company’s portfolio to cross the 25 lakh unit sales mark in the domestic market.

The Alto has entered the 25 lakh club, where the only other car is the Maruti 800, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

“Launched in 2000, the Alto has attained the 25 lakh milestone in less than 14 years, the fastest by any brand; we are overwhelmed and humbled by its popularity,” MSI Vice President (Marketing) Manohar Bhat said.

Suzuki Motorcycle launches LET’s scooter in Kerala

Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIL) on Tuesday launched its 110 cc LET’s scooter in Kerala, targetting sales of 1,000 units per month in the state.

SMIL, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, is looking at national sales of one lakh units a year, Atul Gupta, Executive Vice-President, Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd, told reporters here.

A series of regional launches have also been planned, he added.

Initially, the new scooter would be marketed in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kannur.

LG set to enter the smartwatch market with ‘G Watch’

LG has launched a promo video of its debutant smartwatch called G Watch.

According to The Verge, the South Korean company claims that the G Watch will ‘define the smartwatch’.

In the promo, LG showed that the watch will be waterproof, and will be ready for anything with a single charge.

However, LG does not reveal more about the single charge feature.

The G watch is powered by Android wear, and it will be available in white and black colored straps with black glossy metal main piece.
