Suzuki Motorcycle launches LET’s scooter in Kerala

Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIL) on Tuesday launched its 110 cc LET’s scooter in Kerala, targetting sales of 1,000 units per month in the state.

SMIL, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, is looking at national sales of one lakh units a year, Atul Gupta, Executive Vice-President, Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd, told reporters here.

A series of regional launches have also been planned, he added.

Initially, the new scooter would be marketed in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kannur.

The two-wheeler market has remained flat in the last one year and is expected to remain so in the next two years, he said.

While SMIL enjoys a four percent market share in the country, in Kerala it stands at 10 percent.

Other than Kerala, the scooter has been launched in Tamil Nadu as South India has been a very responsive market for scooters.

Besides being the biggest two-wheeler market, India is also the youngest market as a vast population of young students and professionals constitute 50 percent of today’s market, who need their own transport, Suzuki Motorcycles’ Vice-President Kenji Hirozawa said.

There are also plans to increase the touch points from 600 to 1,000 so that customers can get good after sales service.

Available in five colours, the scooter is priced at Rs 46,974 in the Kerala market and claims a mileage of 63 km per liter.

SMIL has its India manufacturing plant at Gurgaon with an annual capacity of 3.40 lakh units.PTI
