New Delhi, October 01: India on Friday strongly rejected Pakistan’s allegation that it was sponsoring terrorism in South Asia, with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna terming it as “unacceptable”.

“We have rejected it. This is totally unacceptable,” Krishna told PTI as he left New York after attending the opening session of the General Assembly.

“The track record of India speaks so eloquently,” he said, adding, “We don’t need to defend our position.”

Karachi, October 01: Pakistan’s ODI and Twenty20 skipper Shahid Afridi says he has no intentions of going back on his “emotional” decision to retire from Test cricket as he has lost the desire to play the longer format of the game. “I have no real desire to play Test cricket and the reason I lost this desire was because I was not selected consistently for Test matches,” Afridi said.

SC issues notice to CBI in Ruchika case

New Delhi, October 01: The Supreme Court today sought a response from the CBI on the appeal filed by former Haryana Director General of Police SPS Rathore challenging his conviction and 18-month sentence in Ruchika Girhotra molestation case. A bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan issued notice after senior counsel U U Lalit submitted that Rathore was innocent and the entire investigation conducted against him was vitiated.

SC asks Raju to respond to CBI bail cancellation plea

New Delhi, October 01: The Supreme Court today sought a response from Satyam Computer’s disgraced founder, B , on the CBI’s plea for cancellation of his bail in the multi-crore rupee accounting scam.

A bench comprising Justices Dalbeer Bhandari and Deepak Sharma has issued a notice to Raju on the appeal challenging the bail granted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Babri Masjid champion’s daughter gets JD-U ticket in Bihar

Patna, October 01: A day after the Ayodhya verdict was pronounced, Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) gave an assembly ticket to the daughter of diplomat-turned-politician Syed Shahabuddin — the man who championed the cause of Babri Masjid for Muslims.

The JD-U has given a ticket to Parveen Amanullah, in her late 40s, to contest from Sahebpur Kamal, a Muslim-dominated constituency in Begusarai district, about 125 km from here.

The JD-U is contesting the October-November assembly polls in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Lalit Modi accused of stealing watches

New Delhi, october 01: In a sensational accusation on Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) blamed former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi of stealing 24 high-priced Swiss watches.

According to sources, Bandelier watches, the official IPL watch, has told the board that they have made huge losses after being associated with the T20 league since 24 of their expensive watches were taken away by Modi.

Ayodhya again discussed in J&K House

Srinagar, October 01: Verdict on Ayodhya title suit case by Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court was again discussed in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today.

As the House assembled for the Question House, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) members were on their feet, demanding that the House should pass a resolution hailing the verdict on Ayodhya.

BJP Legislative Party leader Chaman Lal Gupta said property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the Kashmir valley when the Quran was set ablaze in the US last month.

Mulayam hits out at Ayodhya judgement

Lucknow, October 01: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav Friday hit out at the judgement in the age-old Ayodhya dispute, saying it was hardly based on legalities.

“The verdict appears to be have been given more on the basis of faith and belief rather than on the basis of legalities and evidence,” the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister told reporters here.

“I am firmly of the view that the court has somehow ignored or overlooked various legal issues and relied more on the faith and belief of people. This is not how a court should have acted,” said Mulayam Yadav.

Dubai police chief gets death threats from Israel

Dubai, October 01: Dubai police chief Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim received two death threats from Israel over the assassination of a Palestinian Hamas leader in the Emirate earlier this year, Al Ittihad reported today.

Lt Gen Tamim accused Israel’s Mossad of sending him death threats twice, a few days after he revealed the details of Mabhouh’s assassination at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai on January 20.

Special trains for various destinations

Hyderabad, October 01: South Central Railway (SCR) will run 38 special trains between Secunderabad-Kakinada Town-Secunderabad and between Secunderabad-Jaipur-Secunderabad during the months of October to December, to clear the extra rush of passengers.

Train No 0701 Secunderabad-Kakinada Town Special train will depart Secunderabad on October 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25 at 2300 hours and arrive Kakinada Town at 0850 hours on the next day.

Asif brings wife home

Lahore, October 01: Six months after he got married, suspended Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif, who is implicated in the spot-fixing scandal, has finally brought his wife home.

The bride, Sana Hilal, and Asif’s ‘rukhsati’ ceremony took place six months after their ‘nikah’ due to the pacer’s commitments with the Pakistan team.

“It is a relief to finally bring my wife home. We have waited for a while now to be together as I have been busy on foreign tours with the team,” Asif told the media at the wedding reception.

Modi says temple a duty

Ahmedabad, October 01: Gujarat CM Narendra Modi welcomed the Ayodhya verdict, saying it lends constitutional credence to the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site.

“This verdict paves way for the construction of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple… Construction of a Ram temple there now becomes a duty.”

He sought public resolve for the temple’s construction. “I believe there should be no feeling of victory or loss… it is laudatory for country’s unity and pride. The result should be accepted forgetting past conflicts.”

Muslim’s does not despair

Ayodhya, October 01: Welcoming the verdict of the Lucknow Bench, 90-year-old Mohammed Hashim Ansari, the lone surviving litigant in the Ayodhya title suits, today said he would not pursue the matter further.

“For me, this is a closed chapter. Hindus should now be allowed to build the Ram temple in Ayodhya. I will appeal to the Muslim leadership to end the dispute and not pursue the matter in Supreme Court,” said Ansari after the ruling.
