Bangalore hit the highest point in supercomputer race

Bangalore is the supercomputer capital of India. The new list released by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in December 2013 revealed that Bangalore has seven supercomputers, pipping Pune that has six.

Bangalore has beaten and Chennai with both cities having just one and two top supercomputers respectively. It even beaten Delhi, which has four if Noida is taken as part of the Delhi region. Hyderabad is doing well, having four supercomputers in the top-33 list.

Attacked on AAP activists

Aam Admi Party (AAP) activists were allegedly attacked by a group of men near Bellandur, in HSR Layout, on Saturday evening. A cases against the unidentified attackers have booked by theHSR Layout police.

A team of AAP was busy with membership drive at Bellandur. A few persons arrived at the spot, wrangled with the workers, attacked them, tore the party’s banner and are absconding, according to AAP Karnataka State convenor Vijay V.

IT firm personnel held for hoodwinked job-seekers

Central Crime Branch have arrested a private company employee on the charge of duping several people by promising them jobs in a well known software company.

According to police, Mukund T R, working as chief operating officer with Technologies Private Limited in Banashankari 3rd Stage, along with his partners in crime were arrested after a raid on his office.

His partners Naveen, Anil Deshmukh, Sandeep, Yeshwanth,Utkarsh Gupta, and Vijaykanth cheated several people promising jobs in IBM and are absconding.

Seven rowdies were under arrest

On Friday, the CCB police arrested seven co-conspirator of notorious rowdy Korangu Krishna. Lethal weapons, an autorickshaw and three bikes were seized from them.

According to police,. they were planning to attack rival rowdy Chetan. The arrested have been identified as Narasimha, Ravikumar, Charankumar, Raghavendra, Manju, Prasanna and Basvaraj. Rajgopalnagar police have registered a case.

Unable to debts, Plumber committed suicide

On Friday , Malesh, 38,a plumber by professional committed suicide at his residence in Muneshwara Block in Peenya night.

Accordin to police,the victim was a habitual drinker and said to be under heavy debt. There was no death note found. The Peenya police have registered a case.

Barbender dies after falling from the 4th floor

A barbender fell to his death from the fourth floor of an under-construction building.

Bhima, 26, a resident of Bhavani Nagar near Banashankari, fell to his death from the under-construction commercial complex in Gururagahavendra Layout, JP Nagar 7th Phase, on Saturday while he was on his job.

According to JP Nagar Police, he rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him brought dead. A case of negligence has been registered against the building owner and the contractor.

Former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was taken back into the party to strengthen it ahead of the Lok Sabha election, BJP general secretary Smriti Irani said Saturday.

Two doctors fired, others slinged in Kousar case

Two doctors were dismissed and two others are suspended by the State government on Friday for medical negligence.

The doctors are from Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics (SGITO).While treating 3-year-old Mariyam Kousar they administered an overdose of anaesthesia due to which she suffered brain damage recently .

Infosys co-founder Nilekani ready to contest general elections

Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has said he is ready to contest in the upcoming general elections.

Earlier, Indian media was abuzz with speculation that the ruling Congress party could nominate the former software czar as its candidate for Bangalore (South) in the 2014 polls.

Nilekani said he is keen on fighting the elections, if given a ticket by the Congress Party.

“Yes, if I am given a ticket (for the polls), yes, I will contest,” he said.

Justifying his entry into politics, Nilekani said he wished to bring forth change in the country.

Goods vehicle driver was thrash by Residents

Situation turned violent on Friday night when local residents stoned at goods vehicle and attacked its driver allegedly for causing an accident killing a six-year-old girl on the spot at Gangondanahalli in Chandra Layout.

Mehroon was the daughter of Salawuddin and was studying at Vidya Sagar School.

Karnataka BJP leader shot at

The president of the BJP’s Kodagu district unit in Karnataka was Thursday shot at by unidentified assailants, police said.

M.P. Shuja Kushalappa was attacked in Virajpet, about 35 km from here.

He suffered an injury near the neck and was shifted to a hospital in Mysore, after treatment at a Virajpet hospital, Kodagu Superintendent of Police M.N. Anucheth told reporters.

A Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson said Kushalappa, brother of Madikeri BJP legislator M.P. Appachu Ranjan, was out of danger.

Couple and associate were under arrest for deceiving 15 job aspirants

Vidyaranyapura police on thursday arrested Gayathri Reddy, 35, her husband Lakshmikanth, 40and their associate on a charge of cheating several people by promising them jobs with software companies.

The couple is from Nanjappa Layout, and their associate Krishna, 36, were running a fictitious firm, ‘Dream at Job’., According to police,“pocketed” Rs 90,000 each from 15 people, with a promise to place them in software companies,. Vidyaranyapura police detained them when one one of the alleged victims,named Madhusudhan, made a complaint.

Van driver held for molesting a Preschooler

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was sexually abuse by a school van driver .Police arrested the van driver in connection with the the incident .According to police, the incident have occurred when the victim was returning home by the van from her kindergarten on Sarjapur Road on Tuesday.

The child, the only daughter of her parents, would go to crèche by the school van. Her parents live in Devarabeesanahalli. Her father is a chartered accountant, police sources said.

Karnataka plans new industrial hub near Mysore

Karnataka is developing a new industrial hub at Chamarajanagar in the old Mysore region to attract investments from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, an official said Thursday.

“We have notified about 1,300 acres of land for acquisition at Chamarajanagar in the border district, which is closer to cities like Salem, Erode and Coimbatore in western Tamil Nadu, to develop textile and granite parks,” Additional Chief Secretary M.N. Vidyashankar told reporters here.

Yeddyurappa, two party MLAs rejoin BJP

Karnataka Janta Party (KJP) president B S Yeddyurappa and two of his party MLAs formally rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Thursday.

Prahlad Joshi, president of the Karnataka unit of the BJP, warmly welcomed him and other members of KJP into the party. Speaking on the occasion, Yeddyurappa said that the decision to quit the BJP was wrong in hindsight, as it had helped the Congress to come back to power. Jail Officials sold themselves for money

M Jaishanker Serial rapist and killer, had paid a hefty bribe to a jail official of Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara who provided him with a duplicate key to his prison cell and gave him the opportunity to ranaway from the Central Prison on the night of August 31, 2013, before being caught six days later.

Jaishanker was in four-day police custody till Wednesday. During an interrogation with him, the identity of the official who abeted him in the daring escape had revealed , said a senior police officer.

Try to burgled an ATM ,Sentry with aide held by city police

According to Malleswaram police ,the security guard, Satish, 23, and his aide Siddesh, 26, both from Davangere, had tried to loot cash from the ATM on December 24.

They used a concrete cutter and a gas cutter to break open the ATM but failed in their attempt.
Failure in the first attempt does not stopped them so they gave a second chance to their destiny only to try their luck at a bank branch and a jewellery shop. But they failed in their attempts again.

Builder in Malleswaram burgled

A builder’s house in Malleswaram was burgled with gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 20 lakhs.

The house was looted in the absence of the builder.Kumar, a builder, and his wife Anitha Kumari, were in V V Puram at their relative’s place to attend a birthday function. On returning home around 9.30 pm, they found the house in muddle. The back door was broken and jewellery was missing from the closet, according to Malleswaram police.

Karnataka to be power surplus by 2017: CM

With a slew of projects under implementation, Karnataka is set to become power surplus by 2017 from being energy-deficit over the years, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Wednesday.

“We have initiated several projects to generate about 18,000 megawatts through conventional and non-conventional sources across the state over the next five years. Though they are at various stages of implementation, once completed, we will be a power surplus state by 2017,” Siddaramaiah said at a trade expo here.
