Schoolgirl kidnapped in filmi style

Vijayawada, January 31: Posing a challenge to Vijayawada city police, three miscreants kidnapped a schoolgirl in a filmi style by killing car driver Lakshmana Rao in broad daylight here Saturday.

The incident occurred on the new BRTS road at Satyanarayanapuram railway quarters around 8.15 a.m.

Governor releases CD of Annamayya Keertans

Tirumala, January 31: Annamayya Swara Latarchana audio CD was released by Governor ESL Narasimhan here Saturday. The first CD of Annamacharya Sankeertans rendered by singing legend Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was presented to Chief Minister K Rosaiah. Later, Annamayya Swara Latarchana CDs were presented to Madhya Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Lata and TTD Chairman DK Audikesavulu Naidu.

TD-Seemandhra leaders vow to intensify stir

Hyderabad, January 31: Opposing the bifurcation of the State, Seemandhra leaders of the TDP have decided to meet at NTR Bhavan, once the proposed Central committee on Telangana was announced officially. Andhra and Rayalaseema MLAs of the party met here Saturday and decided to intensify the agitation for united State.

However, they said that they would meet again once the Centre announces the committee on Telangana.

“We will chalk out future course of action after the proposed T committee is out,’’ a TDP MLA said.

Andhra Speaker rejects resignations of 129 MLAs

Hyderabad, January 31: The Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker Kirankumar Reddy today rejected the resignation letters of 129 MLAs, out of 130, submitted to him over the demand of formation of Telangana state.

Reddy said he received resignations of 222 members belonging to various parties on Telanagana issue. However, since 92 were withdrawn, 130 letters were pending with him.

10 killed, 30 missing as boat capsizes in Andhra Pradesh

Elluru (AP), January 30: At least 10 pilgrims were drowned and 30 others went missing after an overcrowded boat capsized in Godavari river in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

The country-made boat ferrying over 70 persons overturned at around 07:00 hours in the river near Biyyaputeppa village, 70 kms from Vijaywada, West Godavari District Collector A Vani Prasad said.

10 killed, 20 missing as boat capsizes in AP

Hyderabad, January 30: At least 10 people were killed and 20 were missing Saturday after an overcrowded boat capsized in Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh.

A police officer said 10 bodies were recovered so far while a search was on for the missing people. The boat was carrying 70 people, mostly pilgrims. Local people rescued 40 passengers.

No dilly-dallying on T: BJP

New Delhi, January 29: The BJP has warned the Congressled UPA Government at the Centre against delaying tactics on Telangana.

The party has demanded that the proposed committee to be set by the Centre should complete its consultative process ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament. The Bill for creation of separate Telangana should not only be introduced but passed in the Budget Session of Parliament.

Bangalore woman, son commit suicide in Tirumala

Tirumala, January 29: A 55-year-old woman and her 28-year-old adopted son, residents of Bangalore, committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance.

The mother and son, left a suicide note that says that they killed themselves because they were ‘disgusted with the society’.

The were found dead inside a newly-purchased car parked near Lepakshi junction in Tirumala on Tuesday.

According to police, the deceased used to live in Santhosh Nagar, Thoorpu, near Bangalore.

Trial run begins at Tirumala

Tirumala, January 29: The trial run of the state-of-the art machinery installed in the newly constructed temple kitchen for the open sale of Srivari Laddu Prasadam began this morning. For the first time in the history of Venkateswara temple, Laddu Prasadam is being prepared outside the complex.

As part of the mechanisation process, `boondi’, the main ingredient of laddu, is prepared outside. Later, it is sent into the temple through a conveyor belt.

Committee on Telangana next week

New Delhi,January 29: The much-talked about Committee to examine the demand for separate Telangana will be announced next week, home minister P Chidamabaram.

The Home Minister said the government would have more or less finalised the names and will do by the the end of this week. “Perhaps by the next week, the committee will be announced,” he said.

“We are almost at the end of concluding that exercise. If all goes well, we should have a committee by the end of this week. We will announce the committee by next week,” he told reporters declining to give out the names.

Yet another college girl attacked with blade

Nellore, January 28: Yet in another shocking incident, a youth attacked a college girl with a blade, when she turned down his request to accompany him for a chat at Sulurpet today.

According to police the girl A Vijetha, (16), was attacked by a stalker near her house in DVS Nagar, when she was on her way to college. He attacked her with a blade slashing her forehand and fled away leaving behind the girl writhing in pain.

The girl was rushed to Government Hospital.

Teacher in Tirupati ends life for unified State

Tirupati, January 27: Now, it is turn of people in Rayalaseema region to `sacrifice’ themselves for the cause of Samaikyandhra.

A 42-year old teacher T Babu, committed suicide by hanging himself at Srivari Metlu under Chandragiri police limits near here today. Some pilgrims, who found the body hanging from the tree, near an old mandapam at Srivari Metlu, alerted the police.

Initially the police thought it was a case of suicide, but later it was proved to be otherwise in the note (written in a scribbling pad) found in the shirt pocket of the victim.

“TWO” flags hoisted in Telangana

Hyderabad,January 27 :THE “ TELANGANA flag” fluttered along with the Tricolour in several parts of the Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, evoking strong reactions from the people against the formation of the state.

The white- coloured flag with the Telangana map was unfurled following a call by the all- party Telangana Joint Action Committee ( JAC).

Cultural programmes mark Republic Day celebration in AP

Hyderabad, January 26: The Republic Day was celebrated in different districts across Andhra Pradesh today, with hoisting of national flags and cultural programmes marking the celebrations.

In Kadapa, District Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar hoisted the Tricolour at the Police Parade Grounds. He said Kadapa district is first in the state with regard to construction of Indiramma houses for the poor.

Addressing the gathering after taking guard of honour, Kumar said 2.68 lakh houses were sanctioned in three phases and so far 1.67 lakh houses were constructed.

Moonshine kills 11 in Andhra

Hyderabad, January 26:Eleven people died after drinking moonshine in East Godavari district of coastal Andhra Pradesh Monday and Tuesday, police said.

While seven people died Monday, four succumbed Tuesday. Four were admitted to hospital and the condition of one of them is critical.

The tragedy occurred at Gagulakurru Agraharam of Ambajipeta mandal of East Godavari district.

The victims, most of them farm labourers, were taken ill after they drank Saturday night. The next morning they were admitted to different hospitals.

Spurious liquor kills 11 in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, January 26: Eleven people died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, police said today.

Four persons died this morning while seven deaths were reported last night, a senior police official told .

According to the official, people of Rachapalem and Palagummi villages were taken ill allegedly after consuming the liquor on Sunday night. After condition of some of them got serious, 12 people were admitted to hospital yesterday, they said.

A case has been registered and further investigations were on, he said

Another T-activist on deathbed

Hyderabad, January 26: Ever since his distant cousin K Venugopal Reddy ended his life for a separate Telangana, Mekala Raghuma Reddy, a diabetic, stopped taking food and medicines. Confining himself to his room, Raghuma Reddy kept weeping sitting in front of Venugopal Reddy’s photograph.

Coming out of his self imposed confinement, Reddy went out of his house on Sunday and since then his worried mother, Jaya Lakshmi, has been praying for his well-being.

Advocates fast unto death for T

Hyderabad, January 24: Five advocates here began a “fast unto death” in support of the creation of a separate Telangana state.

The advocates led a rally and garlanded the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar near the District Court buildings before beginning their fast.

The TRS MLC, Mr Naradasu Laxman Rao, Manakondur MLA, Mr A. Mohan, and the former MP, Mr G. Vinod Kumar, have visited them.
