Hyderabad, March 02: A 13-year girl, who was hit by her brother for speaking to another person a couple of days back, succumbed to injuries at a hospital on Sunday.
The girl, Venkatamma, lived with her brother, Konda, a daily wager, at the MG Colony at Shaikpet.
Guntur, February 28: A senior Congress leader’s son was allegedly ragged at a corporate college in Vadlamudi village in the district here, police said on Sunday.
Guntur Zilla Parishad chairman K Vijaya’s son Krishna Kant (22) has lodged a police complaint alleging that around 30 students, belonging to upper caste, ragged him at the college eatery and abused his caste. The victim belongs to scheduled caste category.
The victim has identified three culprits in the First Information Report (FIR), police said.

She threw a chappal on Judge M Shanmugam in the IVth Additional and Family Sessions court in the city today.
Surprisingly, the woman – Radha Rani – is a typist in the same court. The judge and the typist had an argument earlier in the day on a petty issue.

Alarmingly, such flouting of rules appears to be rampant in quarries across the region.
As for the latest mishap, infrastructural lacunae have meant that even after 24 hours only two bodies could be retrieved — those of water engine operator Malineni Pitchaiah (47) of Rajupalem village, Chimakurthy mandal, and wire-saw operator Gangireddy Siva Reddy (35) of Bakkireddypalem village in the same mandal.
Tirupati, February 27: Leaders of various political parties have called for a bandh in this temple town tomorrow to protest the ”inhumane” behaviour meted out by policemen to agitators who laid siege to the TTD administrative building.
Police had inhumanly dragged the peaceful agitators and whisked them away when they were demonstrating peacefully in front of the TTD administration building as a part of the 48-hours siege.

Hyderabad, February 25: Two labourers were killed and at least 15 others were feared trapped when a hillock caved-in at a granite quarry in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh this evening, police said.
The mishap occurred near Chimakurthi village when a group of labourers were engaged in digging work inside the quarry spread on 24-acre, owned by a private company, they said.

Justice K Venkataraman granted the interim stay on petitions filed by the Consortium of Self-Financing Professional Arts and Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu, Association of Management of Coimbatore Anna University Affiliated Colleges and Srinivasa Institute of Engineering and Technology, Parivakkam, Poonamallee.
Hyderabad, February 24:The ruling Congress party in Andhra Pradesh Wednesday welcomed Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s budget that offered many sops to the state and gave special attention to the Telangana region.
For the first time in recent years, the state did not get a raw deal with the 2010-11 budget offering a railway wagon factory, a sports academy, 22 new railway lines and 14 new trains.

Hyderabad, February 23: A 55-year-old Handloom Worker allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a beam in his house at Venkatanarsingapuram Village in Krishna District today.
Police sources told, K Siva Rama Krishna resorted to the extreme step due to mounting debts.
The body was shifted to Gannavaram Government Hospital for post-mortem, the sources added.

Hyderabad, February: A film producer and his associate were arrested on charges of illegally transporting contraband drug, police said.
K Venkateshwar Rao, a Telugu film producer who also runs real estate business, and his friend Bhojraj were arrested yesterday when they were transporting ‘Ephedrine’, a chemical used in manufacturing of naracotic drugs, Madhapur Police Inspector Srinivas Reddy told media here.
New Delhi, February 22: Pro-Telangana protestors, in Delhi to press for the speedy creation of a separate state, marched towards Parliament on Monday.
Hundreds of lawyers, students and others sympathetic to the Telangana cause voiced their demands at Jantar Mantar in the heart of the capital and then rushed towards Gate No 5 of the Parliament – violating prohibitory orders – and clashed with the police personnel posted there.
As per reports, some of them even managed to get through the security cordon and were forcibly pushed out by the security personnel.
Hyderabad, February 21: Praja Rajyam party (PRP), CPI, CPM and the BJP strongly have criticised the State Government’s budget proposals for 2010-11 financial year presented by Chief Minister K Rosaiah in the State Legislative Assembly today.
The Left parties described the budget as a jugglery of numbers and not reflective of the actual facts. They said that during the discussions in the Assembly they would propose several amendments to the budget. If the government did not take it in the right spirit they would launch agitations in and outside the Assembly, they warned.

Hyderabad, February 20: Political trouble over Telengana and its impact on the financial situation notwithstanding, a tax-free budget was presented in Andhra Pradesh assembly for 2010-11, which cuts allocations for key government programmes, including the subsidy for power and irrigation.
The budget presented by Chief Minister K K Rosaiah, who also holds the portfolio of Finance, shows an outlay of 1.13.675 crore and a projected expenditure of Rs 1,13,660 crore.
