Ongole, September 03: Notwithstanding reservations of the party high command, Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy today resumed his controversial yatra in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district.

With close relative and Mines Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy standing by his side, Jagan began his yatra at Giddalur by unveiling a statue of his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

“Can anyone say that our beloved leader Rajasekhara Reddy is no more? He lives in the hearts of the people. The hearts of the people beat for him,” he said.

Hyderabad, September 03: A technical problem in a helicopter today forced Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah to abruptly abandon his air travel and continue his journey by road, police said.

The minister, who set off in a private helicopter from Hyderabad, was scheduled to visit different irrigation projects in Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts of the state.

According to police, the minister first visited the Sriramsagar project (SRSP) in Nizamabad district following which he proceeded towards Karimnagar.

Hyderabad, September 03: Heavy rains may occur in some parts of Rayalaseema region and four districts of coastal region of Andhra Pradesh over the next two days, the weather office said today.

The Meteorological Department issued a warning for occurrence of isolated heavy to very heavy rains over Rayalaseema and in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of coastal Andhra.

Hyderabad/Kadapa, September 02: The first death anniversary of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was observed across the state today.

Family members of the late YSR and senior Congress leaders, including Union Minister Veerappa Moily paid homage at the ‘YSR Ghat’, his burial site, inside the family estate at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district, while the state government organised several functions.

Son Jagan, his mother and Pulivendula MLA Y S Vijayalakshmi and other family members took part in special prayers conducted at a church inside the estate.

Kadapa (AP), September 02: Union Minister and AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh M Veerappa Moily today paid homage to late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on his first death anniversary at ‘YSR Ghat’ at Idupulapaya in the district.

Moily, who came on behalf of the AICC, offered floral tributes in the presence of Reddy’s son and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy, Congress Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao, state Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy and other Congress leaders.

Visakhapatnam, September 02: People and their movements are looking up to small media in the state, Telugu daily ‘Andhra Jyothi’ editor K Srinivas said here.

Speaking at a press meet yesterday organised by Vizag Journalists forum(VJF), he said, ”during the colonial era media played a pivotal role in the national movement.” He said undeniably the media was also a ‘business’ and it had its own limitations.

In the era of globalisation people were hopeful in the local papers and blogs than the mainstream big media, he reiterated.

Warangal, September 02: The Srikrishna Commission has received about 1.5 lakh submissions from the people in Andhra Pradesh over the contentious issue of bifurcation of the state.

Revealing this to media persons on Wednesday, Chairman of the Commission for Consultations over the Situation in Andhra Pradesh Justice BN Srikrishna, assured that the Panel’s report would be submitted before its year-end deadline.

Justice Srikrishna further said that of the 1.5 lakh representations received by the Panel so far, over 3,500 submissions contained elaborate details, facts and figures.

Kadapa, September 02: Minister of State for Railways KH Muniyappa on Wednesday attributed the relentless efforts of former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy to get the sanction for the Kadapa-Bangalore new railway line.

Laying the foundation stone for one of the largest projects on South Central Railway, the Kadapa-Bangalore new Railway line, at the Kadapa Railway Station, Mr Muniyappa said that the new Railway Line will reduce the distance considerably between Kadapa and the Silicon City of Bangalore.

Tirupati, September 02: Laying the foundation stone for much awaited Rs 6,000 crore power equipment manufacturing plant project, a joint venture between the BHEL-NTPC at Mannavaram near Tirupati in Chittoor district on Wednesday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lauded the services of former chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to the state.

Talking to reporters, he said “I am happy to lay foundation stone for the project a day before the first death anniversary of YSR who played key role bringing the project to the State.”

Vijayawada, September 01: Unidentified miscreants targeted a jewellery shop at Kambhampadu, Konduru mandal in Krishna district and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 30 lakh.

According to reports, the unidentified burglars broke the locks and lifted shutter of Harika Jewellers and decamped with the gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 30 lakh, which includes one kilogram of gold and silver ornaments weighing more than 30 kg.

The theft was detected early on Tuesday morning after the shop owner arrived to open it.

Vijayawada, August 31: A Sub-Inspector of police was killed in an unfortunate road accident which occurred at Kesara in Krishna district on Monday.

According to reports, Sub-Inspector D Karthik attached to Kolcharam police station in Medak district was travelling in an Indica when it hit a tree and turned turtle.

Another person, as yet unidentified, was left injured in the mishap.

The reason behind the mishap appears to be that the driver lost control over the vehicle. Passersby informed the police who reached the spot and shifted the victims to hospital.

Guntur, August 31: Narasaraopet Member of Parliament Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy on Monday said that he did not foresee any possibility of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy leaving the Congress party and forming his own splinter party.

Ongole, August 31: Police on Monday imposed section 144 in Chirala Town in Prakasam district following the dispute over the installation of a statue of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on government land.

According to sources, police have arrested 26 supporters of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday when they tried to install the statue on a government land in Chirala town.

Chirala police also arrested one Ravi Kumar alias Jinda, a rowdy-sheeter for attempting suicide over the issue.

The arrests were made as they violated the prohibitory orders in force, police said.

Hyderabad, August 30: While students from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions have called for a strike on Monday to protest against the attack on their teachers by pro Telangana students, Telangana activists prevented candidates from other regions from appearing in job interviews in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday.

In a development, which was likely to further inflame the protests, pro Telangana students forced candidates from Andhra region to go back from Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda, where interview for a lecturers’ job on Sunday was being held.

Nalgonda, August 30: A day after a group of Osmania University Students’ Joint Action Committee attacked `non-local’ lecturers, who came to evaluate B-Ed course papers on Osmania campus, Telangana activists obstructed the interviews conducted for contract basis posts at Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda stating that the posts should not be given to any Seemandhra candidates.

According to sources, tension prevailed on the university campus when the Telangana activists obstructed the interviews to be conducted for recruitment of lecturers’ posts on contract basis.

Srikalahasti, August 30: Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the collapsed ‘Rajagopuram’ of the Srikalahasteshwara temple in Srikalahasti in Chittoor district.

Mr Rosaiah told media persons after laying foundation stone, that a private firm ‘Navayuva Constructions’ had voluntarily came forward to construct the ‘Rajagopuram’ at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.

Hyderabad, August 29: Heavy rains lashed coastal Andhra with southwest monsoon active over the region.

Rain occurred at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at a few places over Telangana. Isolated rain occurred over Rayalaseema, according to local weather office here.

Tiruvuru in Krishna district received the highest 8 cm of rain followed by Nellore and Chintalapudi in West Godavari at 7 cm each.

MeT forecast heavy to isolated heavy rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh tomorrow.

The water level in nine reservoirs of the state reached their peak following heavy rains.

Srikakulam, August 29: Telugu Desam Party politburo member Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu on Saturday criticised All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi and party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi over their silence on the issue of illegal mining and ‘official’ encroachment of lands.

Talking to media person, the senior TDP leader reminded that Ms Gandhi had vowed that her party will not tolerate injustice against tribals at any cost.

Nalgonda, August 29: Anti Corruption Bureau officials on Saturday conducted raids on the residence of a Secondary Grade Teacher after unearthed movable and immovable property worth around Rs one crore.

The ACB raids began after the agency was tipped off that the SGT, identified as Ravinder Reddy, has amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to ACB sleuths, the raids revealed that Ravinder Reddy owned four independent houses and eight flats in Hyderabad and Suryapet.

Ravinder Reddy is a resident of Kudukudua in Chivvemla mandal.

Karimangar, August 27: In a bizarre incident, a seven-year-old girl was raped and murdered in the Jayaprakash Nagar of Sircilla in the district.

According to the police, the victim Kaveri, daughter of Vasanta and Padmanabham, living in the colony was found missing since Wednesday evening. When their searches failed, they complained to the police, with the help of the media on Thursday morning.

Visakhapatnam, August 27: As expected, Praja Rajyam Party functionaries on Thursday unanimously re-elected K Chiranjeevi as party president at the ongoing plenary session in the port city.

The actor-turned-politician was the unanimous choice for the top PRP post with three sets of nominations being filed and seconded by several party leaders. Returning Officer Uma Malleswara Rao announced the election results.

Thousands of PRP leaders and activists congratulated Chiranjeevi on his re-election as party president.

Mahabubnagar, August 26: Minister for Agriculture N Raghuveera Reddy on Wednesday sought to assuage the growing fears of farmers in the state over the availability of urea in the state.

He told media persons that there is no shortage of urea in the state and the farmer’s fears were unfounded.

Revealing details, Mr Raghuveera Reddy said that the government has allocated 9,000 metric tons of urea for each district and is prepared for supplying additional urea if needed.

Visakhapatnam, August 26: “The Praja Rajyam Party will extend issue based support as and when needed to the state government in the state Assembly,” asserted party president K Chiranjeevi on Wednesday.

Warangal, August 25: Three district judges and seven advocates were debarred from the LLM first year examinations as they were caught copying by the Kakatiya University officials. Their answer sheets along with the copy material was seized from them.

Among those caught were Adilabad district sub judge M Krishnappa, Rangareddy district court judge K Ajith Narasimha Rao and Nizamabad district court judge P Vijayender Reddy. There were seven advocates who were also involved in the mass copying.
