Despite arrests, police fail to recover stolen cash and goods

Panchkula, June 30: Even as the police make tall claims of cracking most of the recently committed robberies in Panchkula, recovery of the loot still eludes them.

While no recovery could be made in the Sector-20, Sector-6 and Sector-20 bank robbery cases, all that the sleuths could lay their hands on in the PC Jewellers case was a gold chain and a few grams of gold.

No firing and no lathi charge on protesters in AP

Hyderabad, June 30: There may not be suppression of people’s voice using lathis and guns in Andhra Pradesh hereafter.

Setting a precedent in doing away “uncivilised way of dealing with public movements”, the Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday issued strict instructions to all the district superintendents of police against opening fire in the name of controlling mobs at public agitations. They should instead find innovative means to control mobs.

AP Minister escapes unhurt after dais caves in

Vijayawada, June 29: Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister K Rosiah escaped unhurt when a dais on which he was standing suddenly caved in at Mylavaram in Krishna District last evening.

Party Sources told UNI that Mr Roasiah was in Mylavaram in connection with unveiling statue of former Congress MLA Chanumolu Venkat Rao.

As soon as the minister climbed on the two-foot stage, there was a mad rush among Congress leaders and workers to greet him after Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal invited them to the dais. As the stage could not withstand the weight, it suddenly caved in.

TTD EO waits 12 hours for Sarva Darshan

Tirupati, June 29: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer IYR Krishna Rao chose to spend Sunday in a rather different way to take stock of things on the hill shrine.

Rao who went for a walk around 7 am without his attendants, did not return to the camp office, but chose to join Sarva Darshan queue at Shankumitta as a common devotee. It took him nearly 12 hours to have darshan of Lord Venkateswara.

He carried a notebook in which he had jotted down his findings as a common pilgrim.

Hyderabad, June 29: The gloves are off and a bare-knuckle confrontation between AP Olympic Association president and MP Lagadapati Rajagopala Rao and fellow Congress MP and association member V Hanumantha Rao looks imminent.

Already seething over “irregularities” in the conduct of elections to the body on June 21, Hanumantha Rao blew his top on Sunday when he received a legal notice from Rajagopal and said he would challenge the election in court.

MLA-doctors row continues

Warrangal, June 29: The standoff between Warangal East MLA Baswaraju Saraiah and the junior doctors has led to inconvenience to the patients at MGM Hospital here.

The junior doctors have boycotted duties Sunday insisting that cases be registered against the MLA and the Mattewada SI for being rude towards them.

One of the MLA’s followers was admitted to the hospital last night after being injured in an accident. On information that the junior doctors on duty did not take proper care of the patient, the legislator himself descended on the hospital.

Kadapa, June 27: An 18-year-old engineering student, Lakshmi Devi, committed suicide unable to bear harassment by a youth in the name of love at Balijapalle of Rajampet town today. A meritorious student, Lakshmi Devi was pursuing her first year B.Tech from Modugula Kalavathi Engineering College. 8 die of sunstroke in AP

Visakhapatnam, June 25: The severe heatwave conditions has led to the death of eight people from sunstroke in the last two days in this district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports reaching here this morning, eight people died of sunstroke in Ravikamatham and Makavaraipalem Mandals even as heavy rainfall in Hiramandalam Chvthivari Vedhi of Srikakulam District claimed three of a family this morning after they came into contact with a live wire.

AP to be self-sufficient in power in three years

Hyderabad, June 22: Andhra Pradesh is aiming at achieving self-sufficiency in power sector in the next three years by stepping up power generation and taking up massive expansion of transmission and distribution networks in the next three years. Seven naxals arrested in Kanker

Raipur, June 22: Seven Naxals, wanted in several cases, were arrested on Monday in Kanker district about 140 km from here, police said.

The Naxals Danu Ram Usendi, Sukalu Ram, Vinesh, Suresh Mandavi, Lacchu Ram, Sunher and Shambhu were arrested from Koelibeda police station jurisdiction in the district following a tip off, Kanker Superintendent of Police, Ajay Yadav told PTI.

Danu Ram was an accused of killing a student in a school premises three months ago while others were accused in cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and other severe crimes, Mr. Yadav said.

AP Govt to start mobile hospitals : Minister

Tirupati, June 20: Minister Mr Parthasarathy has said that its government is planning to start mobile hospitals in a year or two in the state.

At a review meeting with the district veterinary doctors at a star hotel here yesterday, the Minister said the livestock playing a key role in the countrys growth rate and the state government allocated Rs 600 crore in the budget for the dairy development against Rs 200 crore during the TDP government tenure.

Andhra mining plan new Naxal flashpoint

Hyderabad, June 20: Maoists in Visakhapatnam and the Andhra Pradesh Government are headed for a violent confrontation over mining of bauxite in the forests of Jeralla and Galikonda tribal areas on the Eastern Ghats, barely a week after the state Government agreed to supply raw bauxite to Jindal and RAK Aluminum Limited from the area.

Government junior college principals suspended

Hyderabad, June 19: Principals of four government junior colleges in the district were placed under suspension following their colleges obtaining poor pass percentage, of below 15 per cent.

It is said that this is for the first time in the history of the district that the principals of colleges were suspended, making them responsible for poor results. Principals placed under suspension include Jayanna of Government Junior College, Achempet and S.Vijaya Devi, principal of Government Junior College Kodangal where only 10 per cent of the students passed.

Doctors oppose State move on appointments

Hyderabad, June 19: The Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors’ Association has opposed the government’s move to appoint doctors who have done courses like hospital administration and public health, to the post of Director and Superintendents.

At an emergency meeting of the APGDA’s city units and central executive here on Thursday, members resolved that the government should take vertical seniority in accordance with a earlier Supreme Court judgment, as the sole criteria for promotions. Eligible could then be sent for short-term training programmes, they felt.

Karnool, June 19: Balasubramanyam, DIG of Vigilance and Enforcement, has sought for the cooperation of revenue and other departments to check large scale hoarding of foodgrains in Kurnool district. Hyderabad, June 19: People gheraoed former Minister and Telugu Desam Party MLA from Banswada Pocharam Srinivas Reddy demanding the immediate implementation of the promises made by his party before the elections at Satyanarayanapuram in Varni mandal headquarter on Thursday.

Hyderabad, June 19: Deer’s venturing in agricultural fields is quite common in Pamapuram village in Kothakota mandal. But since last few days, residents here are encountering with new strangers in the village water bodies.

Hyderabad, June 19: Adilabadis managed to beat the severe summer heat by spending an extra fortune over greater consumption of power apparently due to the increased use of air conditioners, air coolers and other electrical devices and appliances. For example, the 20 per cent rise in revenue for APTransco’s Adilabad division in the month of May is being attributed to the growing use of electrical appliances by people who can afford to bring down the heat within tolerable limits.
