Ajay Mishra replaces Acharya on APIIC board

Hyderabad, October 09: Infrastructure and investment principal secretary Ajay Mishra has replaced industries and commerce principal secretary BP Acharya as a director in the Board of AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).

The State government issued orders reconstituting the APIIC Board of Directors.

All the directors except Acharya have been retained on the Board.

S Siva Rama Subrahmanyam will continue to be the chairman of the board.

‘Bhadradri Ramudu belongs to Telangana’

Bhadrachalam, October 09: Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha said the Koti Bathukamma festival celebrations in Bhadrachalam was being organised to prove that the Bhadradri Ramudu belongs to Telangana. The celebrations began at Midhula stadium near the temple here today under the aegis of Telangana Jagruthi.

As many as five thousand women across the district took part in the festival. Speaking on the occasion, K Kavitha said Bhadrachalam division is part of Telangana and nobody can divide it. She also played Bathukamma for some time with other women participants.

Engineer escapes from ACB custody

Hyderabad, October 09: In yet another case of a government official giving a slip to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths after he was caught taking bribe, an additional assistant engineer of AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) escaped from the ‘custody’ of the ACB officials today.

The officer complained of chest pain soon after his arrest yesterday night and fled from the hospital he was admitted.

Scrap Marine Regulation Act: Chandrababu

Kakinaeda, October 09: TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu demanded that the government repeal 2009 Marine Regulation Act immediately because it is creating problems to the fishermen.

Interacting with the fisherfolk here today, he said the demand of fishermen to treat them under ST category or at least under the most backward class is justified and the TDP will support it, he said.

National Postal Week celebrations from today

AP escapes as depression moves to Orissa

Hyderabad, October 09: The Andhra Pradesh coast escaped being battered as a rain-causing depression over west-central Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards and lay centred 270 km off in Orissa, weatherman said.

According to Visakhapatnam cyclone warning centre, the depression may have more impact on Orissa and West Bengal compared to north coastal Andhra.

The India Meteorological Department predicted that the system would move in north-northeasterly direction and cross West Bengal coast near Sagar Island by Friday evening.

3 crore people to get UID numbers in first phase

Hyderabad, October 09: By March next year, about 3.11 crore people residing in seven districts of the state will get the unique identification (UID) numbers under the Centre’s flagship programme, the Aadhar project. Chief minister K Rosaiah is likely to launch the project in the state on November 1 and issue the unique identification numbers to the beneficiaries.

PDS all set to go hi-tech

Hyderabad, October 09: Public distribution system (PDS) is all set to go hi-tech. Probably for the first time in the country, the civil supplies department will interlink its Smart Cards project with the Central government’s Aadhar project being implemented by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This will not only prevent bogus ration cards but also ensure that the beneficiaries get their share of ration every month.

Hyderabad, October 09: Alleging large-scale irregularities by the Andhra Pradesh Bhoodan Yagna board, members belonging to opposition parties and the ruling Congress today demanded dissolution of the board and ordering of an inquiry into the ‘illegal’ allocation of Bhoodan lands to corporate companies and industrialists.

The government had assured them of an inquiry into the issue and placing the action taken report before the public shortly, the opposition members claimed.

HC retains Gurumani on SKS board

Hyderabad, October 09: SKS Microfinance Ltd, the country’s largest and only listed Micro Finance Institution (MFI), which recently sacked its CEO and managing director, on Friday received a fresh salvo from the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Following a petition filed by an SKS shareholder Lekha, Justice G Bhavani Prasad passed an interim order directing SKS to retain Gurumani on the company’s board. He also directed SKS’s newly-appointed CEO MR Rao not to take any major policy decisions without prior approval from the board and until further orders.

Gadar set to formally launch TPF

Hyderabad, October 09: Balladeer Gadar is all set to to form the Telangana Praja Front tomorrow which has already set off alarm bells ringing in established political parties.

The guiding principle of the front will be: force the Centre into introducing a bill in Parliament for creation of a separate state for Telangana on or before December 6, coinciding with the day last year when Union minister for home P Chidambaram made the historical announcement that the ‘process for formation of Telangana state is being initiated’.

Jagan’s ‘yatra’ to enter Nellore on October 11

My front is not a political force: Gadar

Hyderabad, October 08: Balladeer Gadar who is launching Telangana Praja Front (TPF) on Saturday said that his outfit is radically different from a political party as its objective would be to bring pressure on people’s representatives in Parliament to ensure introduction of bill for formation of a separate Telanana state.

The manifesto of the new front would be announced after the delegates’ meeting, Gadar told mediapersons here today.

Srikanthachary’s mother threatens to end life

Hyderabad, October 08: The mother of Srikanthachary, who set himself ablaze at L B Nagar for separate Telangana during the peak of the agitation, today created a mild flutter by threatening to end her life at the place where her son ended his life.

Srikanthachary was the first to end his life for the cause of separate Telangana. A native of Nalgonda district, Chary set himself ablaze on the traffic island at L B Nagar crossroads raising slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’.

Today, his mother Sankaramma reached the traffic island and threatened to die in the same manner her son ended his life.

Reforms in PR department in the offing

Hyderabad, October 08: Nearly 6,000 gram panchayats in the state will be computerised with internet facility within a year for implementation of ePanchayat programme. The remaining 5,920 gram panchayats will be equipped with computers in a phased manner. The ePanchayats will facilitate issuing of trade licenses, birth and death certificates, and facilitate house tax collection among other works.

Man allegedly rapes daughter-in-law

Guntur, October 08: A woman was allegedly raped by her father-in-law here in Sitamma Colony because the accused wanted an heir to the family. Though the incident occured on October 1, a complaint was filed only today.

Reportedly, the accused, Bandari Yedukondalu, has two sons who are both childless.

His elder son Venkateswarlu married seven years ago and younger son Srinivasa Rao married two and half years ago.

Step-father tortures 8-year-old boy

Kanigiri, October 08: While the case of a mother’s torture on her daughter Nartana in Nellore district is still afresh in the minds of people, a stepfather tortured a eight year old boy at Kanigiri.

The boy, Saleem, was admitted to the government hospital here. Reportedly, Saleem’s mother Sk Bibi of Kanigiri married SK Fareed Basha after her first husband Madarvali died three years ago. Basha, a welder at Pamuru, had two children from his earlier marriage.

Allegedly, Basha took to harassing Saleem and beat him on his head with a stick.

APPSC Group-I re-exam on October 25

Hyderabad, October 07: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) will hold the re-examination for Group-I prelims on October 25. The re-examination will be held at three centres in Nampally here — the M.A.M Government Model Junior College for Girls, the M.A.M. Government Model Junior College for Girls (Urdu Medium) and the Indira Priyadarshini Government Degree College for Women.

Special trains to clear Dasara puja rush in AP

Visakhapatnam, October 08: In order to clear the extra rush of passengers during Dasara puja season, East Coast Railway (ECR) will run weekly special train services between Puri and Hyderabad.

In a press release here, ECR Waltair division senior divisional commercial manager H L Luwang said the train number 0863 from Puri to Hyderabad and train number 0864 from Hyderabad to Puri would make eight trips each in a week.

The train number 0863 would also make eight trips a week from October 9 to November 27.
