Now, plan for integrated transport system

Hyderabad, August 03: After an incomplete MMTS and yet-to-take off-Metro Rail project, the State Government is contemplating developing an integrated transport project connecting road and railway networks in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Area (HMDA).

Officials of the Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (In- CAP) have been entrusted the task of conducting a detailed study and come up with a project report.

UGC pay-scales for university, teachers in state

Hyderabad, August 02: In a development that would bring cheers to thousands of faculty members in State universities, Government and aided colleges, the State Government has issued orders making their pay scale equivalent to that of the University Grants Commission pay scales, as suggested by the Sixth Pay Commission.

Even as the Department of Human Resource Development has given the fitment table on June 10, in order to implement the UGC pay scales to university and college teachers, the State Government has delayed to implement the same citing some technical problems.

Angry stalker slits girl’s throat

Kurnool, August 02: In yet another case, a stalker allegedly tried to kill a girl on Saturday for rejecting his love at Allagadda in Kurnool district.

Madhuri, a fourth year student at Alpha Engineering College at Alagadda, was attacked by Vasu, a worker at Gifts and Cellphone Corner, with a blade. The accused was troubling the victim for the last three years. On Saturday, while on her way to the college, Madhuri went to Andhra Bank, Allagadda branch, at around 11 am to collect her scholarship.

Arogyasri health camps in August

TRS Politburo constituted

Hyderabad, August 01: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Friday constituted a Politburo headed by party president K Chandrasekhara Rao.

When the rebel leaders and party secretary general Vijayashanti are challenging the leadership to set right the things in the party, the TRS leadership appointed a Politburo, the highest decision-making body of the party. Hyderabad, August 01: With Praja Rajyam Party president Chrianjevi blissfully ignorant of what was happening in the party, one more `rebel star’ quit PRP Friday. Veteran actor nicknamed `rebel star’ UV Krishnam Raju resigned from the party expressing displeasure over the party not utilising his services in a befetting manner.

He had sent in his resignation letter to party chief Chiranjeevi.

Speaking to reporters later, Krishnam Raju said that he could not adjust in the party. “PRP has failed to utilise my services. I also could not extend my services to the party,’’ he added.

Entry of new parties affect BJP’s prospects: Dattatreya

Vijayawada, August 01: The results in the recently held Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were not up to the expectations of the party, BJP Andhra Pradesh unit president Bandaru Dattatreya said today.

Addressing a press conference, he said due to the entry of new political political parties, the BJP could not able to increase its voting percentage.

BJP demands CBI inquiry into rice export scam

Vijayawada, August 01: Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh unit President Bandaru Dattatreya today demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the allegations of corruption in the export of non-basmati rice to certain African countries.

Addressing a press conference here, he said there were reports that this was a Rs 2,500 crore rice export scam. The State government was involed in the scam, he alleged.

Janashakthi leader Amar released on bail

Hyderabad, July 31: Janash akthi leader Amar was today released from the Cherlapally central prison after the High Court granted him bail.

Amar was allegedly involved in several cases, including blasting of police stations and murders.

Artistes of the Jana Natya Mandali and former People’s War (now CPI Maoists) leader Satya Murthy greeted Amar as soon as he stepped out of the prison.

Budget not beneficial to Telangana: TRS

Hyderabad, July 31: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) today alleged that the budget presented by Finance Minister K Rosaiah was intended to do `injustice’ to the region by sale of its lands and diversion of resources and river waters to Kadapa and Anantapur.

In all, the State Budget would not be beneficial to the Telangana region, the TRS remarked.

Opposition stages walkout in House

No more weekend break darshans on Tirumala

Tirupati, July 29: Giving priority to providing hasslefree darshan for common devotees, the Board of Trustees of the Tirumala Tirupati Devsthanams (TTD) on Tuesday decided to do away with VIP break darshans on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The board, which met on the Tirumala Hills, however, did not take any decision on the conduct of sevas in ekantam though the issue did come up for discussion.

CPI-M mourns its victims of Andhra police firing

Hyderabad, July 28: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Tuesday paid tributes to the workers of his Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) who were killed in police firing in Andhra Pradesh’s Khammam district two years ago.

It was on this day in 2007 that seven CPI-M workers were killed and dozens of other were injured when police opened fire during an agitation by the party to press its demand for distributing government land among the landless poor.

Centre plans to uproot ‘Lalgarhs’

Viajayawada, July 27: The Centre is planning to flush out Maoists from Agency areas on the borders of Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, particularly on either side of the river Godavari.

Sources close to the Union Home Ministry told Express that Operation Lalgarh, launched recently in West Bengal to drive away Naxalites, could well be repeated in the border areas of the three Naxal-hit States.

Counselling for stayed quota seats from Aug 27
