Telangana: report to be submitted by Friday

New Delhi, December 29: With an appeal to maintain peace, the Srikrishna Committee constituted to examine the demand for a separate state of Telangana said on Tuesday that its report which aims to provide a “permanent solution” to the decadesold problem would be submitted by Friday.

In Hyderabad, the nine Telangana Congress MPs called of their huger strike launched on Monday, as they achieved their objective in a little over 24 hours later: lifting of all cases against students invo­lved in agitations for and against the bifurcation of the state.

Housewife robbed of gold at knife-point

Hyderabad, December 29: Unidentified miscreants barged into a house at Langer Houz and after threatening the lone woman inmate in it robbed five-tola gold and fled away in broad daylight today.

The theft took place in the house of a Ajith Kumar, owner of a repair centre of air conditioners.

Ajith Kumar recently shifted to his newly-constructed house at Defence Colony and was living in the first floor while giving the portions in the ground and second floors for rent.

3 Africans held for online fraud

Hyderabad, December 29: Three Africans were caught by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials on Sunday for allegedly duping a person of Rs15 lakh, by promising to deliver a lottery worth Rs 100 crore at New Delhi.

CID officials said Andrew, Martin and Dikite were caught for committing cyber fraud. The accused belong to Nigeria, South Africa and Ivory Coast.

On December 21, one Mehata lodged a complaint at the CID cyber cell that he had received an e-mail from the Microsoft company informing he won a lottery of Rs 100 crore.

KKR lays stone for Medical College in Nizamabad

Nizamabad, December 29: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday laid foundation stone for the construction of a Medical College at Kalilvadi Grounds in Nizamabad district.

The Medical College will be built at a cost of Rs 164 crore and will have a 500 bed capacity teaching hospital and include a nursing college, hostels for medical and nursing students and residential facilities for the faculty.

The College will take in a 100 students every year.

Rao threatens of agitation on issue of withdrawal of cases

Hyderabad, December 29: Expressing solidarity with the fasting Telangana Congress MPs, TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao today threatened that “Telangana people” will hit the streets from tomorrow if all cases against students are not withdrawn.

“The MPs are reflecting the mood of Telangana people. They made all efforts during the last one year to get the police cases withdrawn and as a last resort they began the fast. If all the cases are not withdrawn by evening, we will start an agitation that will bring Telangana to a standstill,” he said.

Report will satisfy majority: Justice Srikrishna

New Delhi, December 29: Mr Justice N Srikrishna, chairman of the Sri Krishna Committee appointed by the Centre to look into the Telangana tangle has expressed hope that their report would satisfy majority of people of Andhra Pradesh and peace would prevail in the State.

All the members of the committee appeared before the media here on Tuesday to say thanks to the press for their cooperation during the compilation of the report.’

Decision on lifting cases unconstitutional: Seemandhra students

Guntur, December 29: Stating that the move will send a wrong message to the people, the Joint Action Committee of Seemandhra Students on Tuesday criticized the state government’s decision to lift all police cases against students and agitators, who participated in the separate statehood agitation.

The Seemandhra student leaders, after holding a meeting on Acharya Nagarjuna University campus to chalk out their plan of action, criticised the state government move to lift the police cases and said that it would send a wrong message to the people in the state.

ACB nets big fish

Vijayawada, December 29: Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths on Tuesday conducted raids on residence of Kanuru Panchayat Village Revenue Officer and unearthed property worth Rs 40 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to Vijayawada Range DSP Venkat Rao, the ACB sleuths conducted the raids after being tipped off that the Kanuru VRO Nellari Venkata Subramaneshwara Rao (50) was leading a lavish lifestyle.

Chiranjeevi decries Centre’s adamant attitude over farmer’s suicide

Guntur, December 29: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi has alleged that the Centre was hesitating to spend Rs four thousand crores to rescue rain-hit farmers in Andhra Pradesh, while it had spent Rs 70 thousand crores to conduct Commonwealth Games in New Delhi recently. Talking to reporters here yesterday, he said the Centre’s adamant and lackadaisical attitude are forcing the farmers to commit suicides in the state.

AP Student Body Warns of Statehood to Telangana

Guntir, December 29: A student body advocating united Andhra Pradesh has warned of “bitter consequences” if the Justice Srikrishna Committee recommends formation of a separate Telangana state.

The five-member panel, appointed early this year to go into the issue of statehood for Telangana, is slated to submit its report on December 31.

Telangana report to give ‘several options’

New Delhi, December 29: The five-member committee on Telangana statehood issue said it will give “several options with their pros and cons” in its report that will seek to achieve the “highest satisfaction of the largest number”.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the committee chairman and former Supreme Court Judge Justice B N Srikrishna hoped that the report, to be submitted to Home Minister P Chidambaram by Friday, will bring out a permanent solution to the contentious issue of demands for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Two men charged for Andhra student’s murder in US

Washington, December 28: The US authorities have booked two men for gunning down a 22-year-old Indian student in a robbery on Christmas morning at a convenience store in Texas where he was working part time.Daniel Jacob Stiner, 22, and Michael Ray Morris, 29, both from Pasadena, Texas, were charged Monday in the fatal shooting of Jayachandra Elaprolu inside the convenience store in the town, the Houston Chronicle reported.

CM appeal to PM enhance relief for calamity-hit farmers

Hyderabad, December 28: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to consider enhancing the scale of relief to farmers hit by natural calamities in accordance with the recommendations of the Working Group on Agriculture Production.

The Working Group is headed by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Calamities that struck the state in last two months had caused an damage to public infrastructure to the tune of Rs 1,207.72 crore, the chief minister informed the Prime Minister in a letter.

Rosaiah in trouble !!!

Hyderabad, December 28: A local court in Hyderabad on Monday ordered the state Anti Corruption Bureau to conduct an enquiry in connection with a land de-notifying case involving former Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah and file a report.

Based on a petition filed by a practising advocate, Mohanlal, the ACB court in Hyderabad directed the anti-graft agency to submit a report on the issue before January 28, Sriranga Rao, counsel for the petitioner said.

49 farmers’ death in Krishna of AP in Dec

Vijayawada, December 27: Nearly 50 farmers allegedly committed suicide or died of cardiac arrest in Krishna district this month after suffering crop losses in the recent cyclone and heavy rain, an Andhra Pradesh Minister said on Sunday.

Talking to reporters here, School Education Minister K Pardhasaradhi said 49 farmers in the district had committed suicides or died due to cardiac stroke since the beginning of this month due to losses caused by the cyclone ‘Jal’ and rain.

Fire ravages ginning mill, 1000s of cotton bales destroyed

Warangal, December 27: Cotton bales worth lakhs of rupees were turned to ashes as fire ravage a ginning mill in which they were stored at Nekkonda in Warangal district in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to fire department sources, the mishap occurred at Shanmukha Cotton Ginning and Pressing Industries, in the wee hours, leaving the cotton bales and cotton material destroyed.

Fire tenders were immediately pressed into service from Warangal district to douse the flames. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
