Nursing students boycott classes

Nahan, February 4:Nearly 150 students of Himalayan Nursing Institute at Kala Amb near here today boycotted classes and came on roads shouting slogans against the college management.

Students were protesting against recent increase in the annual charges announced by the management.

Holding placards and raising anti-management slogans, students assembled at the main gate of the institute and raised slogans against the principal, who they alleged, has misbehaved with some students.

US varsities refuse admissions to TVU students

Hyderabad, February 04: Indian students caught in the Tri-Valley University’s immigration scam are finding it hard to get admissions in other varsities in the US.

Faced with the prospect of deportation, the students are racing against time to join other universities as, for now, it appears to be the only way to avoid the ignominy of being packed back home. Besides, a majority of the affected students are unwilling to return without a degree from the US.

VC’s Irregularities: AMU Court Member Wants CBI Probe

New Delhi, February 04: An Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) court member has demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities committed by the varsity’s Vice Chancellor P K Abdul Aziz since he assumed office.

“The inquiry should probe into all aspects of financial irregularities and administrative impropriety committed by the VC over the years since he assumed office in 2007,” demanded AMU Court member and former MP Wasim Ahmad.

He said members of the court would soon meet the President, the Prime Minister and the HRD Minister to press for a CBI probe.

DSC-2008 selected candidates meet CM

Hyderabad, February 4: The DSC-2008 selected candidates have met the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, in his camp office at Begumpet and submitted a memorandum.

The candidates visited the Chief Minister’s Camp Office this morning and urged Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to solve their long-pending problem at the earliest.

Receiving the memorandum, the Chief Minister reportedly assured the DSC-2008 candidates that he would look into their problem legally and try to solve the problem.

Aligarh, February 03: Millions of girls representing the rural poor, the scheduled castes and tribes, the minorities and the urban slums remain out of the educational umbrella because of the way India’s formal education system has operated, says Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva.

Addressing the Founder’s Day programme at the Women’s College of Aligarh Muslim University here Wednesday, she urged women to be ready to pay the price, ‘but be a catalyst for change and instruments of women’s liberation’.

Engineering student succumbs to accidental burns

Hyderabad, February 03: An engineering student, who allegedly suffered burns due to suspected gas leakage couple of days back, succumbed today. Though police said she might have died of accidental burns, there were reports that the girl set herself ablaze as she could not get fee reimbursement from her college.

The girl, G Vara Lakshmi (17), was a resident of Lashkarguda under Hayathnagar police station limits. She was a B.Tech first year student of Vignan Engineering College on the outskirts of the city and daughter of Jangaiah, a businessman.

TVU students may have to wait till September

Hyderabad, February 03: Indian students facing the prospect of deportation after being duped by the Tri-Valley University and losing their student visa status may have to languish in the US till September, when hearing in the case is expected to be slotted.

What is worse, SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) will remain blocked till the hearing. SEVIS is a web-based programme of the Department of Homeland Security designed to track foreign students in the US. While SEVIS remains blocked, the students cannot apply for fresh admissions anywhere in the US.

California university offers to set up facility in AP

Hyderabad, February 03: Pepperdine University of California has come forward with a proposal to set upeducational facilities in Andhra Pradesh.

A nine-member delegation from the University, led byTimothy M Chester, met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy heretoday and submitted the proposal.

Pepperdine, one of the top-20 universities in the world,sought about 600 acres of land on the Nalgonda-Warangal routefor setting up its campus with an investment of Rs 1,000crore, a press release from the Chief Minister”s Office said.

Written test for recruitment of constables on June 5

Hyderabad, February 3: The Staff Selection Commission will be conducting written examination for recruitment of constables (general duty) in Central Police Organisations (CPO) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on June 5.

According to a pressnote, the Commission has stated that for the first time the government has decided to conduct a common recruitment examination for recruitment of Constable (general duty) in all he CPOs through the Staff Selection Commission. Earlier, the respective CPOs used to make recruitment of Constables (GD) their own.

Hyderabad, Janaury 31: Students gathered at the Career Guidance session organized by city-based KAB Educational Consultants said they were confused about career options because of having too many options to choose from.

“I am here to gather information about all career options that I might have missed out on, although I am sure I want to get into engineering,” said an Intermediate passout, V Chitra.

Another student said he wanted to apply for two to three courses and then choose from the ones he got through.

Minority colleges threaten closure

Hyderabad, January 31: The managements of minority colleges including engineering, pharmacy, MBA and MCA colleges warned of closure of their institutions if the state government fails to pay the fee reimbursement arrears by February 15, 2011. It has said it would collect the fee from the students if the government fails to meet the deadline.

US move of tagging Indian students unacceptable: Krishna

Bangalore, January 30: India Sunday slammed the US authorities for tagging some Indian students duped by a ‘sham’ university in California.

‘The way some of the students have been treated by authorities is unacceptable,’ Krishna told reporters here.

‘In the opinion of the government of India the developments were unavoidable and adding insult to injury,’ he said.

Krishna told the US that it ‘must realize the tremendous stakes involved in higher education, in interaction between our two countries in higher education.’

‘Tying monitors to Indian students unwarranted’

Hyderabad, January 30: It took the tying of radio trackers — described by critics as cattle tags — to the ankles of Indian students enrolled at Tri-Valley University (TVU) in California for the Indian government to spring to their defence, four days after US federal investigators found that it was a sham university engaged in immigration fraud.

Several Indian students detained this week for questioning as part of the investigation of TVU were released but made to wear the tracking devices, according to students Express spoke to on the phone.

Jammu, January 30:The Jammu and Kashmir government is working towards expanding the orbit of employment opportunities for the youths in the state, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced here.

EAMCET-2011 notification on Feb. 10

Hyderabad, January 30: The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) has announced that the Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test 2011 (EAMCET 2011) notification will be released on February 10. A decision to this effect was taken at the EAMCET Committee meeting held on Saturday. However, the exam will be held on May 8th. The applications will be received from February 14th to March 16th. The hall tickets will be issued from April 8th. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) will conduct EAMCET 2011.

AISF seeks new admissions for duped students

Hyderabad, January 29: Members of All-India Students Federation today demanded the authorities in the United States of America to ban bogus universities and provide admissions into other universities to the students who were duped by the Tri-Vally University.

The Federation students staged a Rasta Roko on Begumpet road halting the traffic movement on the Panjagutta- Begumpet stretch.
