Woman Jailed for Adultery Deported; Flies to Australia

Dubai, June 19: After spending nearly 42 days in Al Aweer Central Jail, British housewife Sally Antia, who was convicted of adultery, has been deported.

A source close to her husband told Khaleej Times Antia left the UAE a couple of days ago and will not be allowed to visit the country again.

“However, she chose to fly to Brisbane in Australia, where she would spend time with her sister,”
the source said.

The same source confirmed British media reports indicating that her husband accompanied her. “However, I don’t think that the trip is meant to fix the relation.

Woman fined 1.9 million dollars for illegal download

Washington, June 19: A court in the United States laid down a 1.9-million-dollar fine against a Minnesota woman who illegally downloaded 24 songs from the internet, CNN reported.

The trial against Jammie Thomas-Rasset was the first case in the United States for such copyright infringement, CNN quoted her lawyer as saying.

The 32-year-old mother of four was shocked by the fine as the price tag for legally downloading the songs that would have cost 99 cents each and planned to appeal, he said.

Lucknow, June 19: A pregnant woman was killed as two GRP constables allegedly pushed her out of a moving train following a tiff with her husband at a station in Lakhimpur Kheri district late on Thursday afternoon.

An angry mob of passengers later assaulted and injured the erring constables. The injured cops are admitted at the Kheri district hospital.

Man kills lover after she refuses to give money for liquor

Rajkot, June 19: A man allegedly poisoned his lover after she refused to give him money to buy more liquor in Bhavnagar, police said.

The man was under the influence of liquor when the incident took place.

The man, Usman Rehma Meer, was allegedly having an extramarital affair with Noorjahan Kapadia (35), a mother of two children.

Sources said Noorjahan, a resident of Banuben Ni Waadi, was found unconscious outside the Bhavnagar Civil Hospital on Thursday morning.

Vimla (38), who the police said was mentally ill, killed her husband Ram Prakash (47) with a hammer at their house at Shahibabad on Tuesday night, police said.

The incident occurred barely a week after a man killed his five children before attacking his wife and attempting suicide in this satellite town of the national capital.

Woman raped by former employers

New Delhi, June 18: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two of her former employers in outer Delhi, police said today.

The victim was called to the factory where she was earlier working by her employers — Pintu Kumar (28) and Hari Ram (35) — on Sunday on the pretext of settling her salary dues and she was then allegedly raped by the duo, they said.

She had left the job after she faced harassment at the work place.

Fire in Mumbai suburb leaves 15 people injured

Mumbai, June 18: A fire broke out in a slum adjoining the suburban Bandra railway station in Mumbai in the wee hours on Thursday, leaving 15 people

injured and gutting about 200 shanties.

The fire broke out around 0400 hours in the Garibnagar area, disaster management officials said, adding the cause is yet to be ascertained.

“Twenty five fire engines, 16 water tankers and four ambulances were sent to the spot to aide fire fighting operations. So far about 14-15 people have sustained injuries and two have been admitted to Bhabha hospital in Bandra,” they said.

2 killed in train accident in Agra

Agra, June 18: Two men were run over by trains in separate incidents in the Taj City today.

Mahendra (32) was crushed to death, when he was crossing a railway line in Shahganj area, police said.

Another man, who was yet to be identified, was run over by a train at Yamuna bridge.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

15 injured in Mumbai’s Bandra slum fire

Mumbai, June 18 : At least 15 people were injured and over 200 shanties were destroyed after a fire broke out in a slum adjoining the suburban Bandra railway station here Thursday.

‘About 15 people have suffered burn injuries-of them, two have been admitted to Bhabha hospital in Bandra. Over 200 shaties have been completely gutted in the fire,’ a fire official said.

‘We are yet to ascertain the cause of fire. The situation is under control now,’ he added.

Mumbai woman gangraped in Bhopal in a moving car

Bhopal, June 18: A woman from Mumbai who had come here with her husband was gangraped in a moving car, police said Thursday.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night when Pramod and his wife, waiting for a public transport near the Asaram Bapu Ashram in Gandhi Nagar locality, took lift in an Innova Car, police said.

There were already four people including the driver in the car, which had dark tinted glasses. As soon as they boarded the car, the people sitting inside held Pramod hostage at gun point and raped his wife even as the car continued to move, police said.

4 killed in major fire in Bandra

Mumbai, June 18: At least four people were killed and several injured in a major fire, that destroyed more than 400 hutments in Behrampada in suburban Mumbai early today.

Minister of State for Home Nassem Khan, who rushed to the spot along with officials, told UNI that so far four people had been killed.

Local people in the slum located in Bandra east expressed fear that several people were still trapped in the simmering fire.

Woman gang raped in moving SUV

Bhopal, June 18: A married woman from Mumbai was sexually assualted by three people in a moving Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the Madhya Pradesh capital last night, police said today.

Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh Gaur told UNI that last around 2100 hrs last night a woman and her husband, who came here to visit Sant Asaram Bapu Ashram at Gandhi Nagar area here from Mumbai, asked for a lift from a SUV. There were a total of four people, including driver, in the vehicle.

Woman cashier foils robbery, shot at

Mohali, June 18: A bid to rob a bank in Mohali was foiled on Wednesday morning after a woman cashier, in her mid-40s, raised an alarm. However, in the melee, the robbers fired at the cashier, Parminder Kaur, who sustained a bullet injury on head, DSP (City-II) Swarandeep Singh told Newsline.

Before the incident, the robbers had waited for over an hour for Kaur to arrive, as she had the keys of the bank’s chest, the police said.

Woman gangraped in moving car

Bhopal, June 18: A married woman was allegedly gangraped in a moving car Wednesday night, said sources. The victim’s husband lodged a complaint against four for allegedly raping his wife in Gandhinagar police station.

According to the sources, a woman (identity not revealed) was allegedly gangraped by four assailants in a moving Innova. Police has registered the case in this regard and investigations are underway. The four accused are believed to have fled away.

Heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore seized

Amritsar, June 18: Police seized heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore in the international market and arrested three persons in this connection in the city today.

The Special Narcotic Cell (SNC) of Punjab Police seized 1.5 kg of heroin and arrested Baj Singh, Sarbjit Singh and Kulwant Singh at New Amritsar locality, SNC officials said.

They were detained while allegedly carrying the drug for delivery.

India biggest market for trafficked Nepali women

Kathmandu, June 18: Despite efforts by the Nepal government and rights organisations to prevent human trafficking, India still remains the biggest foreign destination for victims, with an estimated 10,000-15,000 Nepali women and girls being sold there annually.

The assessment is part of the 8th annual Trafficking in Persons Report released by the US Department of State in Washington.

The number could be higher in the absence of reliable statistics. NGOs working on trafficking issues have reported an increase in both transnational and domestic trafficking.

Suspecting affair, husband kills wife in Noida

Noida, June 18: A 34-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband here Wednesday as he suspected her of having an affair with another man, police said. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. Wednesday in Chalera Village in Sector-44 Noida, police said.

Mahaveer, 36, suspected his wife Rekha of having illicit relations with another man who lived in the same locality. An argument broke out between Mahaveer and Rekha and the husband stabbed Rekha to death in a fit of rage, police added.
