Photos show rape and sex abuse in Iraq jails

London, May 28: Photographs of Iraqi prisoner abuse which US President Barack Obama does not want released include images of apparent rape and sexual abuse, Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on Thursday.

The images are among photographs included in a 2004 report into prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib prison conducted by US Major General Antonio Taguba.

Taguba included allegations of rape and sexual abuse in his report, and on Wednesday he confirmed to the Daily Telegraph that images supporting those allegations were also in the file.

City boy gets 98.6% in CBSE

Govt names directors of six new IITs

New Delhi,May 27: The government on Tuesday announced the names of directors of six new IITs five months after TOI first reported the matter.

While U B Desai will be director of IIT, Hyderabad, M K Surappa will head the one in Ropar. Sudhir Kumar Jain will head the one in Gandhinagar, Madhusudan Chakraborty in Bhubaneswar and Anil Bhowmick in Patna. Prem Kumar Kalra will be the director of the IIT located in Rajasthan.

HRD ministry sources said that the Cabinet clearance has been secured and the new directors have been given the appointment letters.

Tigress enters home to escape cyclone fury

New Delhi,May 27: A family hit by the ferocity of cyclone Aila in a village near the Sundarbans had a bigger shock awaiting them when they found a full grown tigress crouching in their home.

Pintu Mirdha and his family members in Jamespur village under Gosaba police station in South 24 Pargana district were trapped in their home encircled by flood waters as the cyclone raged outside on Monday.

As the water level rose, Pintu was petrified to find the predator in one of the rooms.

MBA student murdered in Qutab Area

New Delhi,May 27: On the day he was supposed to fly to Switzerland on a study trip, a 26-year-old MBA student was found brutally murdered in south Delhi in what appears to be a case of rivalry in love.

The body of Anand Tiwari, a fourth semester student at Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), was found in the bushes inside Sanjay Van area of Qutab Institutional Area on Tuesday morning, with his head badly battered.

90 arrested in child porn sting

Paris, May 27: A French police official says 90 people have been detained in a nationwide sweep of suspected consumers of online child pornography.

The official says Tuesday’s operation stemmed from the 2004 arrest of an 18-year-old man who was running a child pornography ring.

The teenager, from the northern city of Clermont, traded pornographic photos and videos of children as young as babies. He has since been incarcerated.

Sabita(46), a Mines and Geology minister in the previous Rajasekhara Reddy ministry, follows in the footsteps of her late husband Indra Reddy who was the Home Minister in the N T Rama Rao Cabinet in 1994-95. Like in the past, the chief minister will have the sensitive law and order subject.

Gunman attacks Saudi bus carrying foreigners

Riyadh, May 27: A gunman in a speeding car opened fire on a bus carrying five foreigners in eastern Saudi Arabia, but no one was injured in the incident, the interior ministry said.

The bus was traveling in the Gulf coast petrochemical hub of Jubail when it was fired on from an overtaking car, said ministry spokesman General Mansur Al Turki.

The shots shattered the rear window in the bus but neither the Pakistani driver nor the passengers – three Britons, one Saudi, and one Syrian were injured, he said. The five men all work for the same company, which was not identified.

France Muslim school condemned to death

Paris, May 27: France’s oldest and most successful Muslim school is on the verge of collapse over financial problems, with many pointing the fingers at the government for denying it the same grants given to all faith schools.

“We are collapsing under the weight of our debts,” Yvonne Fazilleau, the headteacher of Réussite (Ibn Rushd) school, told.

The school has debts to the tune of €300,000 and is on the brink of bankruptcy.

“Last week our accountant said to me: ‘We are penniless’.”

Fazilleau says the school managed to stay afloat last year through charity.

A cartoon YouTube video set to a Hannah Montana song made waves over the weekend for its whimsical depiction of numerous ways to murder a sixth grade schoolgirl.

The video was made by girls at a Spanaway, Washington school who apparently had a falling out with a classmate, Piper. The clip carries illustrations of Piper being shot, made to commit suicide, thrown off a cliff and poisoned.

72-yr-old held for raping maid

New Delhi, May 26: A 72-year-old wholesale fruit dealer has been arrested for allegedly raping his 20-year-old domestic help. Police said Thakur Das raped his maid of six years on May 14 at his Punjabi Bagh house in West Delhi.

“She was found in a semi-conscious state near Das’s house on May 14. She could not identify herself initially.

She was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed that she was raped. A case was registered against unknown persons on the same day,” said a senior police official, not authorised to speak to media.

CBSE class X results to be announced today

New Delhi, May 26: The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) will declare the results of Class X for Ajmer, Chennai and Panchkula regions on Tuesday.

However, the results of other regions and Delhi will be announced by the end of this month.

The results will be put up on the website www.cbse.nic.in and www.cbse.results.nic.in .

The schools can also get results by giving their school code and email-id by registering themselves. Students can get their results on their e-mail address by registering themselves on the web sites: www.results.nic.in.
