MBA student murdered in Qutab Area

New Delhi,May 27: On the day he was supposed to fly to Switzerland on a study trip, a 26-year-old MBA student was found brutally murdered in south Delhi in what appears to be a case of rivalry in love.

The body of Anand Tiwari, a fourth semester student at Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), was found in the bushes inside Sanjay Van area of Qutab Institutional Area on Tuesday morning, with his head badly battered.

Robbery has been ruled out as police said none of Anand’s possessions were missing, including a mobile phone found in his pocket which helped in identifying the victim. From his call records, police said Anand seemed to be romantically involved with one of his classmates, who, incidentally, was to be his companion in the trip. The cops suspect the hand of a senior student in the murder.

The body was discovered by a passerby on Tuesday morning. The police team found liquor bottles and some raffles packets near the body. The head had been smashed with a heavy object.

Anand had come from Kolkata two years for the MBA course. His local guardian, K D Sharma, said, “We received a call this morning from the Hauz Khas police about the murder. Anand is my wife’s brother and has been in Delhi since he got admission at IIPM. I had met him on Monday evening and he told me he was going to meet some friends.”

Police added that Anand’s bike was found parked outside Sanjay Van and it is possible that the assailants, who seemed to be known to him, had taken him to Sanjay Van for killing him.

Police said there were possibly two killers and raids were being conducted in Ghaziabad to nab them. “We have sent his body for postmortem at AIIMS. It will be conducted once his family arrives from Kolkata,” said DCP (south) H G S Dhaliwal.

Anand was staying in a PG accommodation at Katwariya Sarai for the past two months. Brajesh Tiwari, Anand’s landlord, said he was a good-natured man who came from a well-to-do family. He studied during his first year of MBA at the IIPM institute in Saket and then shifted to the Satbari branch in Mehrauli.

Anand’s father, Rajendra Tiwari, was supposed to reach Delhi on Tuesday night. He runs his own business in Kolkata. Anand was the elder of two children.

A case of murder under section 302 has been registered at Hauz Khas police station and sources claimed that a few suspects had been detained.
