Surat Gang Rape case: Police commissioner Swaroop transferred

Ahmedabad, June 14: Cracking the whip, Gujarat government transferred Surat Commissioner of Police Deepak Swaroop as the protests against the the gang rape case became shriller and widespread and several outfits including VHP calling for a bandh on Monday. It is believed that a statement of Swaroop has cost him dear.

He had said that the victim girl was in compromising position and the three youth took undue advantage of this. They posed themselves as police and made both sit in the car and gang raped the 17 year old girl. This was stated by the girl in her complaint of gang rape.

BSNL drops plan to bid for Tunisia license

New Delhi, June 14: BSNL has dropped its plans to bid for telecom licence in Tunisia as the PSU finds the returns not enough to enter that market through bidding of licence.

“We did not bid for Tunisia… we did not find returns on our investment,” a senior BSNL official told PTI.

Earlier the PSU’s CMD Kuldeep Goyal had said BSNL was planning to bid for telecom licence in Tunisia and get a footprint in the African market, which has immense potential.

Shah Rukh Khan in Tax Trouble

Mumbai, June 14:King Khan might have been Bollywood’s highest advance tax payer last year. But the I-T department has not forgotten that the man still owes them Shah money from nearly ten years ago.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday admitted an appeal, by the I-T department, challenging an order of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), which had ruled in the star’s favour in June 2008.

In the first of its appeals, the I-T department seeks to claim a sum of Rs 19.43 lakh from the actor, out of a total exemption of Rs 72.67 lakh for the assessment year of 1998-1999.

Emaar to Build World’s Tallest Tower in Saudi

Dubai, June 14: Emaar Properties, which is already building the world’s tallest skyscraper in Dubai, has won a chance to outdo itself with a tower rising to a height of more than a kilometre — this one in Saudi Arabia.

Kingdom Holding Company, a Saudi property company, announced on Saturday that it has picked Emaar to build a 100 billion riyal ($26.6 billion) mixed-use real estate project called Jeddah Kingdom City and Kingdom Tower, outside the Red Sea city of Jeddah. The tower will be “the highest in the world,” Kingdom said in a news release.

Branded thief, man kills self in employer’s shop

Kolkata, June 14: A 25-year-old employee of a jewellery shop committed suicide after the owner allegedly confined him in the shop for the past two days, accusing him of stealing cash. Two days ago, Abhijit Das, the victim went to Burrabazar with his employer’s money and was robbed by a gang. Rabindranath Ghosh, the owner of the shop, did not believe the incident had taken place and put pressure on him to refund the money.

Probe revealed that Das, a resident of Rishra in Hooghly, worked at Ghosh’s shop on Jadu Pandit Lane in north Kolkata for the past few years.

Child electrocuted in school

Kolkata, June 14: Mohammad Rehan Ali, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, was electrocuted when he touched a water tap at a south Kolkata school on Saturday morning. Probe revealed that the metal outlet of the water tank had been touching a live wire hanging from the meter box.

Rehan’s father Mohammad Siraj is one of the security guards of the school Ballygunge Park Day School on Syed Amir Ali Avenue. The family stays on the school campus.
