Boiled Potatoes (Big) : 4-5
Onion (finely chopped) : 2
Green Chilies (chopped): 2
Coriander Leaves (chopped): A few
Mustard Oil: 1 tsp
Salt : 1/2 tsp
Red Chilly Powder: 1/2 tsp
Jeera (roasted and powdered): 1/2 tsp

METHOD
Peel the potatoes and mash them coarsely. Add all the other ingredients and mix well.

5 Colombian soldiers, 13 FARC rebels killed

Colombia, October 18: The Colombian military says five soldiers and 13 members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have been killed in the past week.

The military launched an operation in a mountainous region of the Cauca department 10 days ago to “halt drug trafficking,” an unnamed military official told AFP on Saturday.

The army accuses the FARC of harassing several villages in recent months, including Corinto, Caloto and Toribio in the Cauca department.

Cashewnuts, roasted and powdered 3 tbsps.
Salt to taste
Dry grated coconut 2 tbsps.
pinch of turmeric powder
pinch of asafoetida
Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp.
2 red chillies
Oil 2 tbsps.
few corriander leaves

METHOD
Heat oil. Add mustard seeds, red chillies and asafoetida. Next add the cooked rice and the remaining ingredients. Mix well. Sprinkle chopped corriander leaves. Serve with curd.

Guinea junta leader wants election mediator: Minister

Dakar, October 18: The head of Guinea’s military junta has told the African Union he wants the question of his standing in presidential polls to be discussed as part of international mediation, his Foreign Minister said.

Guinea junta leader Moussa Dadis Camara “wrote to the African Union and Economic Community of West African States requesting that it be assigned to the mediation of Burkina Faso” President Blaise Compaore, said Alexandre Cece Loua.

Australia assists as boats reported in distress

Sydney, October 18: Australia said on Sunday it was helping Indonesian and Malaysian authorities deal with two boats, believed to be carrying hundreds of people, which reported being in distress off their coasts.

News of the vessels, which were reportedly heading towards Australia, comes just days after a boat carrying 255 Sri Lankan asylum-seekers was picked up by Indonesian authorities en route to western Australia.

Iran blames ‘foreign elements’ for attack on Guards

Tehran, October 18: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards accused “foreign elements” linked to the United States of involvement in Sunday’s attack that killed at least two senior commanders of the elite force and 18 others, state television reported.

“Surely foreign elements, particularly those linked to the global arrogance, were involved in this attack,” a Guards statement quoted by television said. Iran often uses the term “global arrogance” to refer to the United States, its old foe.

Accept election results, France tells Afghan rivals

Kabul, October 18: France’s Foreign Minister urged Afghanistan’s political rivals on Sunday to accept the findings of a fraud investigation that could decide whether the nation’s disputed election goes to a runoff.

The August 20 vote was marred by charges of ballot-stuffing and voter coercion, mostly to President Hamid Karzai’s benefit. Both he and top challenger Abdullah Abdullah say the results of the fraud probe, which have been expected since Saturday, are in their favour.

Too early to send more US troops to Afghanistan: Kerry

Washington, October 18: Senator John Kerry says it is “irresponsible” to send more US troops to Afghanistan at this time amid a deepening election crisis that has placed the Kabul government’s legitimacy at stake.

The United States should not proceed with new Afghanistan strategy committing a potentially major increase in US resources, including tens of thousands more troops, without first securing a clear partner in Kabul, Kerry told CNN during a visit to Afghanistan, in a interview to be aired today.

Pakistan selectors face dilemma for UAE series

Karachi, October 18: The Pakistan selectors will meet on October 22 to finalise Pakistan’s squad for next month’s limited-overs series against New Zealand in the UAE. However, there are two key issues to be sorted out before the final list is announced for the three ODIs and two Twenty20 games in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, to be played between November 3-13.

Younis Khan’s availability to lead Pakistan in the three ODIs in Abu Dhabi is under a cloud as is fast bowler Mohammad Asif’s comeback, and whether he will be cleared by the UAE authorities to play in the series.

Ingredients :

500 gms paneer
100 gms capiscum
2 tsp coriander seeds
5 whole red chillies
½ tsp dry fenugreek leaves
2 chopped green chillies
2 tsp chopped ginger
4 chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp chopped coriander
3 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste
6 cloves garlic mixed with water for the paste

Method :

Slice the paneer and capiscum into thin long strips.
Pound the coriander seeds and chillies together.
Heat the ghee add the garlic paste and cook on a slow flame for a few seconds.
Add the capiscum and the pounded spices and cook on a slow flame for a few seconds.

Six persons, including two Indian Americans and the Sri Lankan-origin man, were arrested in connection with the USD 20 million hedge-fund fraud on Friday.

Iran: Israelis should stand trial over war crimes

Tehran, October 18: In light of the Goldstone report on Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip, Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki calls for legal action against the Tel Aviv leadership.

“The perpetrators of the Gaza war should stand before the international war crimes tribunal,” said Mottaki, adding that Israel’s saturation bombing of the strip has damaged the Palestinian infrastructure beyond repair.

Pepper Chicken In a Coconut Gravy

Ingredients :
2-2.5 pounds of chicken cut into pieces
3 tbsp of pepper powder
3-4 flakes of garlic paste
A small piece of ginger paste
Some dry coconut
unsalted butter
A few sticks of cinnamon.
Some cloves
A few cardomom seeds
2 small tomatoes
2-3 tsp coriander powder
2 Medium onions
1 tsp chilli powder
A little haldi powder
1 tsp cumin seeds powder Coriander leaves to garnish
Salt to taste

Method :
Smear 2 tbsp of pepper powder and salt on the chickenpieces.
Pierce the chicken pieces with a fork and let the chicken marinate for a few hours.

Kadai Chicken

Ingredients :
1 whole chicken,cut into small pieces
4 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup onions, sliced
1 1/2 cups tomatoes, peeled and sliced
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon garlic paste
4 teaspoons garam masala powder
2 bay leaves
4 whole red chilies
2 teaspoons coriander seeds
1 teaspoon red chili powder
salt (optional)

Method :
Grind corriander seeds and whole red chillies into a coarse powder.
Heat oil in a kadai.

(A Kadai is a not-so-shallow not-so-deep frying pan, of fairly heavy grade aluminum)

Add bay leaves.

Revolutionary Guard commanders killed in Iran bomb

Tehran, October 18: A suicide bomber killed at least 20 people today, including five senior commanders of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard, in southeastern Iran, the country’s official news agency reported.

The IRNA news agency said the dead included the deputy commander of the Guard’s ground force, General Noor Ali Shooshtari, as well as the Guard’s chief provincial commander, Rajab Ali Mohammadzadeh. Dozens of others were wounded, the report said.

No LeT, JeM terrorists in Pak’s Red Book

Islamabad: The Pakistan Crime Investigation Department (CID) has released its ‘Red book’ that includes name and profiles of almost 70 most wanted criminals, but it surprisingly does not include any terrorists from the LeT or JeM.

The ‘red book’ contains data of terrorists suspected of sowing death and destruction in Islamabad, including the Marriot Hotel bombing of September 20 last year, according to the Dawn.

Syed Ibraruddin, 28, a Peshawar resident has been named as the most wanted suspect for the Marriot Hotel suicide attack.

B’desh PM talks against corruption, but party men aren’t listening

Dhaka, October 18: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called corruption “the biggest barrier to poverty eradication”, but her warnings to political colleagues have gone unheeded, media reports said.

District level officials have sent in reports that a section of the Awami League leaders are ‘grabbing’ contracts through manipulation of rules and coercion of the bureaucracy, New Age newspaper said on Sunday.

Waziristan offensive enters 2nd day, 26 militants killed

Islamabad, October 18: Pakistani jets and artillery bombarded militant hideouts for a second day on Sunday killing over 25 militants in the lawless Waziristan region, as ground forces moving in from three directions took control of two key areas in face of stiff resistance in the Taliban stronghold.

The Army yesterday launched a major offensive to “dismantle the network” of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and to flush out militants in South Waziristan who were responsible for 80 percent of recent terrorist attacks in the country, military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas said.

Chicken Fried Rice

Ingredients :
6 cups boiled Basmati rice
1 cup chicken
1/2 cup prawns cooked
1 egg
1/4 cup capsicum cut into fine strips
1 cup regular onion, chopped fine
1 cup spring onions, chopped fine
2 tablespoons of ginger-garlic paste
1 cup of mixed vegetables
soya sauce
chilli sauce

Method :
Make sure the rice isn’t overcooked or mushy.
Add a little oil when boiling so that it doesn’t stick together.
Fry the regular onions till light brown.
Add ginger-garlic paste and fry.
Add the rice and fry with soya sauce to taste.
You can add a little chilli sauce if you want.

Bangladesh fears Myanmar may attack their island in Bengal bay

Dhaka, October 18: Bangladesh, which is currently engaged in a dispute with Myanmar over border fencing, fears that Yangon may attack its St Martin’s Island in the Bay of Bengal, a media report said.

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), which guards the land border, has identified the St Martin’s Island as the “probable main target” of Myanmar and has asked the government to immediately strengthen its defence by constructing aircraft landing zones and concrete bunkers.

TRAI to seek industry views on Do-Call Registry

New Delhi, October 18: Telecom regulator TRAI will issue consultation paper this week for stakeholders to elicit views on a ‘Do-Call’ registry where only registered users would be called by the telemarketing firms.

A senior TRAI official said the lukewarm response to the “National-Do-Not-Call” registry is the reason behind exploring the possibility of a Do-Call Registry (DCR) instead.

Introduced in October 2007, the NDNC has just gathered 20 million cell phone users of the 448 million wireless subscribers who have opted for no-calls from the pesky tele-marketing companies.

No plan to ban participatory notes: Govt

New Delhi, October 18: The government has ruled out imposing ban on participatory notes, even as market regulator SEBI is trying to bring more transparency in stock markets by encouraging foreign investors to directly register with it.

Participatory-notes (P-Notes) are the instruments issued by foreign institutional investors (FIIs), through which unregistered overseas investors invest in Indian stocks.

“There is no plan to ban participatory botes,” a Finance Ministry source told reporters.
