London, October 18: Columbian Popstar Shakira has revealed that she dressed up like a guy to avoid attention from fellow students when she decided to study at university.

The 32-year-old singer took a break from making music and enrolled on a history course after releasing 2006 album ‘Oral Fixation Vol. 2’ in 2006 because she wanted to step out of the public spotlight for a while, Guardian online reported.

Autonomous body to look into broadcasting sector: Soni

New Delhi, October 18: Government has no intention to regulate the content of television news channels but will create an independent autonomous body to look into all aspects of the broadcasting sector, says Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni.

“Believe it or not, we are not putting a regulator to monitor content, that is not the intention of the government at all. It would be an independent autonomous body, without government control, which will look at all the ministry related issues,” she said speaking to Karan Thapar on his programme ‘Devil’s Advocate’ on CNN-IBN,

7,311 missing children in Delhi yet to be traced

New Delhi, October 18: Around 30 per cent of 7,311 missing children from the capital who are yet to be traced are from Outer and North-East districts, according to official statistics.

Outer Delhi topped the list with 1,090 followed by North-East Delhi with 1,031, said the Zonal Integrated Police Network (ZIPNET).

Sultanpuri police station in Outer Delhi has the largest number of such cases with 218, closely followed by Gokulpuri of North-East Delhi with 209 cases, it said.

US-linked Jundullah claims responsibility for Pishin attack

Tehran, October 18: Jundullah has accepted responsibility for the deadly attack that rocked a security gathering in southeast Iran, killing 29 people and wounding another 28.

The Jundullah terror ring, which is led by Abdolmalik Rigi, has claimed responsibility for the attack that targeted a unity gathering between Sunni and Shia tribal leaders in the borderline Pishin region, near the city of Sarbaz.

Lebanon blast destroys discovered Israeli spy gear

Beirut, October 18: The Lebanese army is investigating the cause of a blast that rocked the outskirts of the southern town of Houla overnight.

The blast occurred after Lebanon’s Hezbollah discovered cables used for spying in the al-Abbad area near Israeli’s border post, DPA reported on Sunday.

Two 50-metre cables were reportedly discovered in the area, one of which was used for wiretapping and the other for broadcasting.

UN peacekeepers were also called out to the blast scene.

Singareni Collieries to set up 600 MW plant in Telangana

Hyderabad, October 18: The state-owned Singareni Collieries will set up a 600 MW power plant at a cost of Rs.2,700 crore (Rs.27 billion) in Adilabad district in Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, who will shortly lay the foundation stone for the project to come up in the backward Telangana region, Sunday said the plant was expected to be completed by December 2012.

According to him, the project would not only give an impetus to the growth of Telangana, but also help the state bridge its power deficit to a large extent.

Endeavour to strengthen AP Genco,the public utility: CM

Hyderabad, October 18: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah said that the State Government was making all out efforts to step up power generation in the wake of increasing demand by expediting works on the ongoing power projects and taking up new projects simultaneously.

Mr Rosaiah said the Singareni Collieries would soon take up large scale power generation by setting up a 600 MW coal-based power plant at Jaipur mandal in Adilabad district at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore.

London, October 18: A British victim of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, who faces a life in a wheelchair, is to receive government financial support after a decision to compensate all Britons who are hurt in terrorist attacks abroad.

Will Pike, who fell from the third floor of the Taj hotel when a makeshift escape rope of towels and curtains tore apart, and dozens of other Britons injured in overseas terrorist attacks will be eligible for government help, the Observer newspaper reported Sunday.

Iraq cabinet ratifies new oil contracts

Baghdad, October 18: Iraq’s cabinet has approved a deal with two foreign firms to develop a vast oilfield in the south of the country, the first major oilfield deal signed since the US invasion.

The Iraqi government said Saturday it has ratified a contract with a consortium of British BP and CNPC of China to develop a 17bn barrel oilfield of Rumaila near Basra.

The project aims to considerably increase output at the super-giant oilfield – raising it by 2m barrels a day.

US to spend 1.3 billion USD on Afghan bases

Washington, October 18: While Washington weighs its options on sending more troops to Afghanistan, the US military is spending billions of dollars on upgrading its bases in the country.

The Washington Post reported in its Sunday edition that the US military wants to spend 1.3 billion dollars on more than 100 projects across Afghanistan.

Some 30 million dollars of the money will be spent on the main US base located near the northern Afghan city of Bagram to build a passenger terminal and adjacent cargo facility to handle the flow of troops.

Iran sanction bill not effective: US experts

Washington, October 18: A US congress legislation barring companies that sell fuel to Iran from securing deals with the US government will likely have little impact on the country, experts say.

The US Senate on Thursday approved legislation to punish foreign oil companies from doing business with Iran, marking the first time both chambers of Congress have cleared the same bill imposing economic sanctions.

The legislation was then sent to US President Barack Obama in a move meant to punish Iran for refusing to halt its peaceful nuclear program.

NATO says US soldier killed in Afghanistan

Washington, October 18: The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has declared that one US soldier has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan.

“One US service member was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan October 18,” an ISAF statement said on Sunday.

Earlier on Friday, Two US service members were killed in eastern Afghanistan and another US service member was killed in an IED attack in south, said the ISAF.

Mutton Sandwich

Ingredients
8 bread slices
Butter for applying on slices
1/4 kg boneless mutton,boiled
1/2 cup cheese, grated
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp butter (for sauting)
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp garlic paste

Method:
Heat 1 tbsp butter in a pan
Add onion, and fry till transparent
Add ginger-galic and saute for 2 min.
Add mutton, salt and pepper
Fry till light brown
Remove from fire and let it cool
Slice the mutton into thin strips
Apply butter on bread slices

Between two slices of bread:
Arrange mutton pieces

Afghani Biryani

Whole chicken – 1, cut into serving pieces
Basmati rice – 2 cups, washed and pre-soaked
Onion – 1, peeled and chopped
Carrot – 1, chopped
Tomatoes – 1, pureed in blender
Almonds – for garnishing, slivered and fried
Raisins – for garnishing
Whole cardamom seeds – 10
Cloves – 10, long
Cinnamon stick – 1 inch piece
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Water – 6 cups
Salt as per taste
Black pepper powder as per requirement
Cooking oil as per requirement

Method:
1. Take the carrots and onions and saute in the cooking oil.
2. Add to this the chicken and mix well.

SEBI guidelines on SME exchange soon: Finance Ministry sources

New Delhi, October 18: Market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) would come up with guidelines for setting up stock exchanges exclusively for small and medium firms soon.

“SEBI is working on it. The norms are being finalised and would be released soon,” Finance Ministry sources said.

The market regulator has already floated the concept for setting up the exchange which will enable SMEs to raise capital from the primary market.

How to make fruit fun:

* Clean and wash mint leaves.
* Grind the mint leaves with lemon juice, salt and pepper.
* Cut paneer into small cubes and dress it with mint paste.
* Keep aside.
* Peel, clean and segment the orange.
* Clean and wash grapes.

PINEAPPLE CRUSH RECIPE

Ingredients:

100 ml Pineapple Juice (Ananas)
1 tblsp Sugar (Artificial Sweetner)

How to make pineapple crush:

* Make sugar syrup.
* Strain it and mix it into the pineapple juice.
* Your pineapple syrup is ready.
* Take ¼ proportion of syrup and ¾ proportion of water.
* Garnish it with chopped pineapple pieces and serve cold.
* To get pineapple juice, put pieces of pineapple in the blender and extract the juice.
