Obama vows to find out Boston bombers’ motives

US President Barack Obama has vowed to find out the motives behind Boston Marathon bombings that killed three people and left about 180 injured in the first major terror attack on American soil after 9/11.

“Obviously, tonight, there are still many unanswered questions,” Obama said speaking from White House briefing room after 10 p.m. Friday, just over an hour after the remaining suspect, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured after a massive manhunt.

Eleven killed, 45 injured in Pak bus accident

At least 11 people were killed and 45 others injured on Friday when a bus they were travelling in overturned in Pakistan’s eastern province of Punjab.

The over-speeding bus turned turtle after hitting a roadside tree in Bahawalpur city, dunya tv quoted eye witnesses as saying.

The driver lost control over the bus as he tried to save a motorcyclist, witnesses said.

The injured have been shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital, where several of them are said to be in critical condition.

MIM coporator booked for trespassing on government land

Police on Thursday booked Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) corporator Mohammed Murtuza and a marble businessman for trespassing into a government property near the Chanchalguda women prison. They removed a signboard declaring the 200 square yard plot as ‘government property’.

Saidabad tehsildar N Radika Ramani and other staff on Wednesday visited the site to re-errect the board on the plot. The marble businessman Nadeem prevented them from doing so, while the MIM corporator threatened her over the phone.

72 killed, 600 injured in strong 7.0 quake in China’s Sichuan province

Beijing: At least 72 people were killed and over 600 injured when a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Saturday, CCTV News reported, a news agency reported.

The quake hit Lushan county of Ya’an city in southwest China’s Sichuan Province at 8:02 AM local time.

The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be at a depth of 13 Kms and was monitored at 30.3 degrees north latitude and 103.0 degrees east longitude.

Pictures on the state-run CCTV showed extensive damage to buildings.

Already given 25 per cent of my wealth to charity: Azim Premji

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has said he has already given more than 25 per cent of his personal wealth to charity, but acknowledged it’s not easy to use money well in philanthropy.

“I have very clear views on what I intend to give to charity and today more than 25 per cent (of my personal wealth) has already been given to charity,” Premji said.

The IT czar had donated 8.7 per cent from his personal stock-holding in Wipro for philanthropy in 2010. This had formed the endowment for the Azim Premji Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation set up in 2001.

Pakistan calls for peaceful post-NATO Afghanistan

Pakistan has urged all concerned stakeholders including the US to ensure Afghanistan turns a peaceful, progressive, prosperous and stable country after NATO-led coalition forces’ withdrawal.

It has expressed concern about the possible direct impact of any hostility in the war-torn neighbouring country, Xinhua reported.

Pakistan is in contact with all concerned in this regard and is monitoring the evolving situation, the foreign ministry said Friday.

Oil pipeline in Myanmar mutually beneficial: China

China has said that an oil pipeline project in Myanmar will serve the mutual interest of both the countries.

The Chinese foreign ministry Friday also said the oil pipeline project in Myanmar could boost the local economy in that country, Xinhua reported.

“The oil pipeline project has undergone scientific study and strict examination and conforms with local regulations and laws,” spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.

She said it when asked about a Chinese-invested oil pipeline to be built in Myanmar.

Magnitude-7 quake hits China; five dead (Lead)

Five people were killed as a powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale jolted south China’s Sichuan province Saturday morning.

The provincial seismological bureau confirmed five deaths.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the temblor hit the province’s Lushan county of Ya’an city at 8.02 a.m., Xinhua reported.

The epicentre, having a depth of 13 km, was monitored at 30.3 degrees north latitude and 103.0 degrees east longitude. And, it was strongly felt by residents in Sichuan’s capital city of Chengdu, about 140 km from Ya’an.

Attempt to murder charge against man who raped a five-year-old

Delhi Police has slapped attempt to murder section against the person who allegedly raped a five-year-old girl and holding her hostage for at least two days here. Prabhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), told reporters tonight that they have slapped sections 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (a) (rape), 362-A (kidnapping) among others of IPC and 6 and 9 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012. “The accused has been identified and a team is already on its way to arrest him,” Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar told PTI.

Advani pipe bomb case: 2 accused seek bail

Two accused in the case relating to planting of a pipe bomb allegedly targeting BJP leader L K Advani during his “Jan Chetna Yatra” in 2011, today moved the Madras High Court bench here for bail. A Judicial Magistrate court had remanded Syed Sahabuddin and Darvish Moideen, who were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Explosives Substances Act, to custody last month. Syed Sahabbudhin alleged he had been falsely implicated in the case.

Delhi 5-yr-old child rape accused arrested in Bihar

A 25-year-old youth allegedly involved in the rape of the five-year-old girl in the national capital was arrested here early this morning, police said. Manoj Kumar was apprehended from Chiknouta, his in-law’s village, at around 2.00 AM from here in Bihar, about 50 Kms from Patna. The youth was arrested by a team from Delhi with the help of local police. The accused, who has come here by a train from Delhi, was traced after tracking his mobile phone location, police sources said. Kumar had married recently and his wife had come to her parent’s place two days back.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif escapes plane accident

Former premier Nawaz Sharif had a narrow escape when his chartered aircraft made an emergency landing in this eastern Pakistani city on Friday after one of its windows developed a crack. The PML-N chief was flying from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, to Hasilpur district in Punjab, 400 km from Lahore, when the Challenger aircraft’s window was damaged.
