Construction worker gangraped by 4

A woman construction worker was allegedly gangraped by a contractor and three labourers in Jobner area in the district, police said.

The husband of the 24-year-old woman lodged an FIR against contractor Chenaram, and Mohan, Jagdish and Gopal for raping his wife few days ago, Deputy SP Rajpal Singh said.

The victim yesterday narrated the incident to her husband, who is a construction worker at a different site, following which the FIR was lodged at Jobner police station, Singh said.

He said the matter was being probed and no arrest was made so far.

Both Pradeep, Manoj raped minor girl, police tells court

The second accused in the alleged gang-rape of a five-year-old girl was today sent to four-day police custody by a city court which was told by the Delhi Police that both he and accomplice Manoj had raped the minor.

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg remanded 19-year- old Pradeep, who was arrested from Bihar yesterday and brought here on transit remand, to police custody till April 27 after the police said he had to be interrogated to unearth the sequence of events.

Amid high security, Pradeep was brought to the court in muffled face.

MP girl’s rape accused flee to Nepal

A joint team of MP and Bihar police have failed to arrest the accused involved in allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh and it is suspected that he might have fled to Nepal taking advantage of the porous border, police said on Tuesday.

The minor, who was allegedly raped on April 17, is at present battling for life in a hospital in Nagpur.

After search for the accused, Firoz Khan (35) in Banka, failed to yield result, the joint police team visited neighbouring Supual district on Indo-Nepal border tracking mobile phone signals, SP Pushkar Anand told PTI.

BJP demands resignation of PM, removal of law minister

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and removal of Law Minister Ashwini Kumar in view of a “series of scams” and the way the government “sought to suppress the truth”.

“Today (Tuesday), the BJP parliamentary party has decided that the prime minister should resign and law minister should be removed in the light of the series of scams and the brazen way in which the government has sought to suppress the truth from coming out,” party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.

Sonam, Anil together for a special song in ‘Bombay Talkies’

Bollywood’s father-daughter duo Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor will be seen together for the first time in a special song in “Bombay Talkies”.

A compilation of four short films celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema, “Bombay Talkies” has contributions by Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar.

The makers have shot one special song for the film that will feature some of the known Bollywood stars including Sonam and Anil, said a statement.

Delhi rape case: 2nd accused in 4 days’ police custody

The condition of the 5-year-old rape survivor in Delhi is stable and she is still on a semi-solid diet, said doctors treating her at AIIMS. Her fever has subsided and she is more alert and active. S team of psychiatrists are counselling the 5-year old.

“She has had a good breakfast. Her fever has come down. And she is afebrile (not feverish) now. Her colostomy is functioning normally,” Dr DK Sharma, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, said in a medical bulletin. “The five-year-old female child is recovering as expected. She is active and taking adequate liquids and semi-solid food,” he said.

Parliament adjourned for day over ‘quit PM’ demands

Both houses of parliament were repeatedly disrupted before being adjourned for the day Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) noisily demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation.

The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day without transacting much business. While the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day a little after noon, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day at 2 p.m.

Court orders Musharraf be probed in Bhutto’s murder

A Pakistani anti-terrorism court, conducting the trial of suspects charged with involvement in the 2007 assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Tuesday ordered that former president Pervez Musharraf be included in the investigation process.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which is investigating the Bhutto assassination, told the court in the garrison city of Rawalpindi that the former military ruler has not yet been formally included in the case, reported Xinhua.

CBI freezes bank account of ex-IAF chief SP Tyagi

CBI has frozen bank accounts of former Indian Air Force chief SP Tyagi and other Indians named as accused for allegedly receiving kickbacks in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP helicopter deal.

Agency sources said here today that “certain bank accounts of all the Indian accused” named in the FIR have been frozen by CBI.

The bank accounts of Indian companies named in the alleged scam–Aeromatrix Info Solutions Private Limited and IDS Infotech–have already been frozen by the agency, they said.

Tension in Shopian town after recovery of youth’s body

Tension gripped south Kashmir’s Shopian town on Tuesday following recovery of body of a post-graduate scholar, who went missing on Monday, police said.

Body of Bilal Ahmad, who had completed Masters in Commerce, was found this morning in the fields near Shopian town, 52 kms from here, a police spokesman said.

Bilal was reported missing since yesterday, the spokesman said.

He said soon after the youth’s body was recovered, an irate mob set the house of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh on fire for reasons which are not clear yet.

Missing Indian in Sharjah found

A 78-year-old Indian man, who went missing from his daughter’s home in Sharjah last Friday, was found Monday.

Syed Nisar Ahmed and his wife landed in Sharjah from India last Friday to visit their daughter Syeda Noor Ameenah, who lives in the Al Khan area of the emirate.

After their daughter brought them home from the airport and the family had breakfast, Nisar Ahmed, who is a diabetic, walked out of the house.

Russia to train Indian fighter pilots

Russia will train Indian fighter pilots for carrier-based operations, a top Russian official said.

The Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RAC MiG) has signed a contract with India’s defence ministry on the training of Indian pilots on operating carrier-based aircraft, RAC MiG Director General Sergei Korotkov told Itar-Tass in an interview.

“On April 20, the contract was signed between the ministry of defence and the RAC MiG, under which we will train Indian pilots on the MiG-29K/KUB planes,” said Korotkov.

Telecommunications service provider Reliance Communications Tuesday said it has partnered with Twitter to launch a bundled prepaid plan known as ‘Reliance Twitter Access Pack’ for the company’s GSM subscribers.

“Our partnership with Twitter in India further strengthens our offering on the social media platform and is in line with our efforts to offer innovative products with affordability for our customers,” said Nilanjan Mukherjee, chief revenue officer – wireless, Reliance Communications.

Boston blasts: FBI looks at Pakistani terror group

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking at a Waziristan-based terror group’s link with the two brothers suspected of the deadly Boston bombings, a media report said.

The News International reported that Islamic Jehad Union (IJU) has come under FBI’s focus for its alleged links with Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, two brothers of Chechen descent who allegedly carried out the blasts in Boston April 15, killing three people.

APIIC officials depose before CBI

State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) officials today appeared before the CBI in connection with the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

Earlier, Revenue Department officials were called to give statements as the case involves land allotments to industrialists.

APIIC is the facilitator to industries and helps entrepreneurs set up industries. The allegation was that the Corporation has overlooked the policy matters and large extent of land was allotted to some business houses at a cheaper price.

Jagan bail case posted to April 30

The Supreme Court today adjourned to April 30, the bail petition of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Nimmagadda Prasad.

The case of cancelling the bail of Vijaysai Reddy, as sought by CBI, is also posted to April 30.

Meanwhile several MLAs from Kurnool district met YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at Chanchalguda jail. Among those who met him were Emagnur MLA Chennakesava Reddy, Mantralayam MLA Balanagi Redy, Adhoni former MLA Sai Prathap.

Jagan’s wife YS Bharathi was also among the visitors.

Kerry to meet Karzai, Pak military head: Source

US Secretary of State John Kerry will hold a meeting Wednesday with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the head of Pakistan’s armed forces, Ashfaq Kayani, a US diplomatic source said.

Kerry, in Brussels for a gathering of NATO foreign ministers on Tuesday, “has offered to host a meeting with Afghan and Pakistani officials”, the source said.

Along with Karzai and Kayani will be Afghan Defence Minister Bishmullah Mohammadi and Pakistan Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, the source added.

Bhutan begins electing new Parliament

The tiny Himalayan country of Bhutan begins electing a new parliament on Tuesday for only the second time in its history, five years after the Buddhist monarchy gave up its absolute power.

Voters will first choose members of the upper house National Council on Tuesday, a non-party body, then in the following weeks will decide which of five parties will form the next government in the National Assembly.

Petrol prices may drop by up to Rs. 2.50

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs ) may slash the price of petrol by up to Rs 2.50 per litre in line with the decline in international crude oil prices.

The new price will reportedly come into effect by the end of April.

Brent crude oil is now trading at USD 99 a barrel in international market.

Petrol price was cut by Re 1 per litre on 15 April, the third reduction in rates in one month.

The price cut, which was made possible because of fall in international oil prices, excludes local sales tax or VAT.

Musharraf’s party denies contacting military leadership following detention

Former Pakistani presidentPervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League(APML) has clarified that it has not contacted the Army leadership for the ‘ill-treatment being meted out to the retired general.’

APML’s senior vice-president retired Major General Rashid Qureshi said the party did not want to drag any government institution, including the Army, into the Musharraf case.

He said neither the APML nor the Army had contacted each other on the issue, the Dawn reports.

Qureshi, however, said there were contacts between the two sides at the individual levels.

Tripura, Meghalaya to ban gutka, pan masala

Following the direction of the union government, Tripura and Meghalaya will ban the sale, manufacture and distribution of gutka (tobacco-laced areca nut pieces) and pan masala (a chewing mixture), officials said Tuesday.

Health department officials of Tripura and Meghalaya said that both the states have already taken initiative to ban the sale, manufacture and distribution of gutka, khaini, pan masala and other chewing products containing tobacco or nicotine.

Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Sikkim have already banned such products.

Pak court tells Pervez Musharraf to cooperate in Bhutto murder probe

A Pakistani anti-terrorism court on Tuesday directed former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, a “proclaimed offender”, to cooperate with investigators probing the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Musharraf was driven to the Rawalpindi-based court from his plush villa on the outskirts of Islamabad where he is under house arrest for charges dating back to his 9-year rule.

The former president appeared before Judge Chaudhry Habib-ur-Rehman for the first time since the Rawalpindi-based court began hearing the case in 2008.
