BJP MP seeks government statement on Chinese incursion

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tarun Vijay Wednesday said the government should brief the MPs on the Chinese incursion in the Ladakh region and sought a statement from External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on the issue.

Vijay, who is a member of the Parliamentary Group on India-China Friendship, said that a special meeting of MPs should be convened and they should be briefed by Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai on the Chinese incursion.

Jet gets nod to issue 27.26 million shares to Etihad at Rs 754.73

Jet Airways on Wednesday said its board has approved issue of over 27.26 million equity shares to Etihad Airways at Rs 754.73 apiece.

The number of shares allotted to Etihad represents nearly 32 percent of the Jet’s share capital.

In a filing to stock exchanges, Jet said its board of directors at a meeting today approved preferential allotment of “27,263,372 equity shares of the face value of Rs 10 to Etihad Airways PJSC at a price of not less than Rs 754.7361607 (including premium of Rs 744.7361607 per share) per equity share”.

More reforms initiatives in next 2 to 4 months: Chidambaram

Committing to carry forward the economic reforms programme in the remaining term of UPA-II, Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said the government will take more executive actions in the next two to four months and sought cooperation of the main opposition party to push through important bills in Parliament.

Ruling out early elections, the Minister said the government would last for 13 months more and would continue to take small but significant steps to ensure that the country achieves its potential growth rate of 8 per cent.

‘Leader’ of LulzSec hacking group arrested

A self-proclaimed leader of the LulzSec international hacking group has been arrested in Australia, police said, charging him with attacking and defacing a government website.

The 24-year-old IT professional, who went by the online identity “ozshock”, was seized at his office in a town 76 kilometres (47 miles) north of Sydney on Tuesday.

“The man is a self-proclaimed leader of the group Lulz Security (LulzSec), a computer hacking group that has existed since 2011,” the Australian Federal Police said, adding that he was known to international police forces.

Internet search giant Google may soon revamp its iconic homepage, personalising it for each user by adding relevant information about weather, traffic conditions and even your favourite stocks.

The current Google homepage comprises a white screen, a search box and a pretty logo.

Google is reportedly working on bringing ‘Google Now’, its personalised homepage feature of its Android phones to the web and to its search page.

The tech giant is testing ‘Google Now’ for its homepage, according to website, Google System.

US returns ‘traveling mummies’ to Mexico

A collection of 36 mummies belonging to Guanajuato, a city in central Mexico, has been sent back from the US, officials told EFE.

The “traveling mummies”, as they are known in Guanajuato, arrived at the Mexico City airport from Chicago Sunday under “extremely tight security to ensure their perfect state of preservation”, an airport spokesman said.

Guanajuato’s Mummy Museum signed a deal in 2009 with a businessman who planned to exhibit the mummies at museums in the US.

The roving coralgrouper, a predator fish of the tropical reef, uses sign language to advise fellow hunters of hiding prey, according to a study published on Tuesday.

It is the first time that a fish has been known to make “referential gestures,” or specific signs that alert a partner to an object of mutual interest, it said.

Reporting in the journal Nature Communications, a trio of biologists at Switzerland’s University of Neuchatel and Cambridge University in England studied how the coralgrouper works with two hunting pals.

J&K government bans re-appointment of retired officials

The Jammu and Kashmir government Wednesday decided to ban the re-employment of retired government officials in the state administration, an official here said.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a state government spokesperson said.

“The cabinet has directed the general administration department not to entertain any such proposal. Other departments have also been directed not to submit such proposals,” the spokesperson added.

On finding that his name is registered in Malayasia’s electoral roll, S.K. Dinesh, 32, filed an emergency judicial review application April 4 through a firm, SN Fam & Co, to have his name removed.

However, the high court in Shah Alam, capital of the Malaysian state of Selangor, Wednesday denied him leave to initiate judicial proceedings against the Election Commission (EC), The Star newspaper reported.

Israeli intelligence analyst accuses Syria of ‘using chemical weapons’

Israel”s top intelligence analyst has accused the Syrian regime of using lethal chemical weapons.

The allegation puts pressure on the US over its pledge to intervene should Damascus cross what it has described as a “red line”.

According to the Guardian, Brigadier-General Itai Brun, head of military intelligence research at the Israeli Defence Forces, said that the lack of international response to the use of a chemical suspected to be the nerve gas sarin was a “very worrying development”.
