Director confirms ‘Star Trek Beyond’ title

After too many speculations, Justin Lin has finally announced the official title of the next installment of “Star Trek” movie series. According to the director, the upcoming movie will be called “Star Trek Beyond”.

Lin took to Twitter to announce the title of the film by sharing a photograph which was seemingly taken on the set of the movie, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP,” he captioned the image.

Hamas closes offices of Gaza’s only mobile phone company

Hamas today closed the offices of Gaza’s only mobile telephone company after accusing it of tax-dodging, a move experts said could halt all cellular services in the Palestinian territory.

Police in the Gaza Strip, which Hamas controls, shut the offices of Palestinian telecoms provider Jawwal in Gaza City and left notices proclaiming it was “on the orders of the (Hamas) public prosecutor”, an AFP correspondent said.

The company confirmed the closure, which was ordered last week by the public prosecutor, Ismail Jabr, for alleged “tax evasion”.

Rural economy slowing down, warns Moody’s

The global rating giant Moody’s said it expects India’s weakened rural economy to remain subdued through the fiscal year ending March 2016, particularly if the risk of below-average monsoon rainfall materialises.

It further pointed out that, the rural income growth in India has been stuck in the mid-to-low single digits in so far this year, well off the more than 20 per cent rates clocked in 2011.

SpiceJet launches ‘Hand Baggage Only’ fares

Budget passenger carrier SpiceJet on Tuesday launched a “Hand Baggage Only” fares.

The new fare scheme is intended to offer discount for passengers who carry hand baggage only. The scheme will be available on most direct domestic flights with a minimum 30 days advance purchase.

It is estimated that the new scheme will provide a discount worth Rs 200 on a one-way flight. While for a round trip the discount can be as high as Rs 1,000.

Raje should volunteer information on foreign trips, says Congress

The Congress on Wednesday opined that Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje should volunteer information on foreign trips made by her, after an RTI query revealed that the state government has no information for the same between 2009 to 2013.

“Vasundhara ji has been a chief minister and has been the leader of opposition. I believe she should volunteer the information herself. Anyway, all details of foreign trips are mentioned in the passport, so the government should have no problems in replying to the RTI,” Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has said that the Islamic Republic is battling extremists from around 10 countries and is making all the sacrifices ‘alone’.

Addressing a gathering of women activists, politicians and diplomats in Kabul on Tuesday, Ghani called for an ‘enhanced’ regional cooperation to address regional challenges. He also urged the international community to help Afghanistan in eliminating the militant threat, reported NBC News.

Nalanda: Six arrested in connection with death of school director

Six people have been arrested in connection with the lynching case in Nalanda, where a school director was beaten to death.

Devendra Prasad Sinha, the director of a private residential school here, was thrashed in full public view following the recovery of two bodies of children from a pond close to the institution.

The director’s family has demanded a CBI probe into the untoward incident.

According to reports, the situation here continues to be tense, with the protestors blocking vehicular movement in protest against the lynching of the director. (ANI)

India has made progress in reducing open defecation rates: UN

India has made “moderate” progress in reducing open defecation rates among its population and has succeeded in providing access to improved drinking water to more people in urban and rural areas, according to a UN report.

The Joint Monitoring Programme report titled “Progress on Sanitation and Drinking Water: 2015 Update and MDG Assessment” released by the UN Children’s Fund and the World Health Organization said one in every three or 2.4 billion people on the planet are still without sanitation facilities, including 946 million people who defecate in the open.

Maha police tags only Muslims, Maoists as terrorists

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has released a list of ‘wanted’ terror accused which is being criticized by Muslim organizations and right wing groups.

The list has at least 13 total terror accused with their photographs. 11 Muslim youth are labeled as ‘wanted’ and two Maoists belonging to CPI-M.

But, it doesn’t take account of any right wing accused wanted in Malegaon and other blasts.
