AIIMS coordination committee threatens BJP of dire consequence

The AIIMS coordination committee (ACC) an amalgam of various social, political, religious and business organisations spearheading the campaign for the establishment of the premier medical institute in Jammu has today warned the ruling alliance partner BJP of dire consequences if it fails to fulfill its commitment.

“We urge the BJP to fulfill its written commitment on AIIMS within the stipulated period” said Mohinder Singh Katoch, working president Jammu Province Peoples Front (JPPF) and member ACC.

Microsoft has released a latest preview of Windows 10 along with other new features including Microsoft Edge and Wi-fi that will come with the platform.

The users will have to download Windows 10’s latest preview build for PCs, to use the new feature available. Microsoft Edge, initially developed under the codename Project Spartan, is a web browser in development by Microsoft.

Father of SMS, Makkonen dies at 63

Matti Makkonen, known as the father of SMS after developing the idea of sending messages via mobile networks, has died. Makkonen, a Finnish national, passed away on Friday at the age of 63 following serious illness, Finnish language daily Ilkka reported.

Despite being known as the father of SMS, Makkonen was often quick to point out that he did not invent the technology single-handedly.

In 2012, he told BBC News — in an SMS interview — that he believed texting in some form would be around “forever”.

All decisions were taken by Manmohan, says Dasari

Former Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayan Rao, an accused in Jharkhand’s Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block allocation scam case, on Tuesday said that decisions to allocate coal blocks were taken by then PM Manmohan Singh, who was also heading the Coal Ministry at that time.

Coal scam:
“I was only the Minister of State. All powers for allocating coal blocks are of the Coal Minister and the then Coal Minister was Manmohan Singh. All the decisions were taken by the then Prime Minister Singh,” Rao told reporters outside the Patiala House courts here.

Time of the ‘mute Prime Minister’ has gone, says BJP

Taking a jibe at former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said that the Congress has forgotten the time of the ‘mute Prime Minister’ adding that the incumbent Narendra Modi communicates with people on a regular basis.

“Prime Minister Modi communicates with people through social media and ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Time of the mute Prime Minister has long gone. It seems that the Congress has forgotten that,” said BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.

Hit-and run case: Bombay HC adjourns hearing on Salman’s appeal against conviction to July 13

The Bombay High Court has adjourned the hearing on actor Salman Khan’s appeal against conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case to July 13.

Khan, who got a respite in the hit-and- run case after the Bombay High Court stayed his five-year conviction, was earlier directed to submit Rs. two lakh as cash security before leaving the country for a show.

A criminal court had earlier convicted Salman of culpable homicide on charges that he lost control of his car when driving under the influence of alcohol in 2002 and rammed into a group of people sleeping on a pavement.

Congress accuses Kejriwal of misleading public

Congress leader Ajay Kumar on Wednesday accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of misleading the public by portraying AAP to be pro-common man.

“Right after Arvind Kejriwal took charge; he had said that he wouldn’t even use an air conditioner. He also directed the CPWD to remove air containers from his house. So, it is very evident that he says something and does something else, and that the AAP is trying to put out a message that they lead their lives in a very simple manner, which is not true,” said Kumar.

In a new study, researchers have shown that endurance exercise may help prevent cognitive decline, keeping your brain working fully as you age.

University of Texas researchers attempted to determine the correlation between a person’s cardio fitness and cognitive function in middle-aged adults, and tested the participants by engaging them in moderate or strenuous aerobic exercise for at least four days or seven hours a week, while the sedentary subjects exercised less than one hour a week.

Researchers compared risk factors for heart disease and metabolic syndrome of tree nut consumers versus those who did not consume tree nuts. India’s manufacturing PMI shrinks in June, job strain stays

India’s manufacturing sector eased in June due to weak growth in new business inflows as companies took a cautious line on hiring, an HSBC survey said.

The HSBC India Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 51.3 in June from 52.6 in May, amid slowest rise in new orders since September 2014.

“Following the pick-up in growth rates for output and new orders seen in May, June PMI data pointed to a slowdown in India’s economic upturn,” said Pollyanna De Lima, Economist at Markit, which compiles the data.

Saudi Arabia sentences anti-Indian Pakistani TV anchor to 8 years, 1000 lashes for criticising regime

India baiter and hatred spewing Pakistani TV anchor Zaid Hamid has reportedly been sentenced to eight years in prison and 1000 lashes by a Saudi court for criticising the country’s government, unconfirmed reports have claimed.

Hamid was detained while on a private visit to the Kingdom with his wife. An official said that he made speeches against the Saudi government at a function two weeks ago and was arrested for lashing out against Arabs, reported Pakistan Destiny.

Father of Vyapam Scam Accused Seeks CBI Probe into His Death

The father of Narendra Singh Tomar, an accused in the high-profile MPPEB scam who died on Saturday, demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI probe into the death.

Mr Tomar (29), a government veterinarian, had been arrested in February this year on the charge of helping a student from Jhabua in cracking the 2009 Pre-Medical Test through fraudulent means.

His father Kailash Singh Tomar today demanded a CBI probe and alleged that the police officer Ajay Jain had demanded Rs. 7 lakh from Narendra and on failure to pay he was framed in the MPPEB scam and tortured.

No alcohol ban but minimum age be raised from 18 to 21 years in Uttarakhand

Ruling Congress in Uttarakhand has demanded that the minimum age for alcohol consumption in the state be raised from 18 to 21 years.

The demand was made by Pradesh Congress General Secretary Anand Rawat through a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Harish Rawat in Dehradun on Monday.

Citing the examples of Maharashtra and Karnataka where the minimum age for alcohol consumption is 25 and 21 years respectively, Mr Anand said the minimum age for alcohol consumption in Uttarakhand should also be raised from 18 to 21 years.

Jagmohan Yadav Appointed New DGP of Uttar Pradesh

The state government late this evening appointed 1983 batch Indian Police Service officer Jagmohan Yadav as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Yadav was earlier posted as DG, Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID), and took charge from AK Jain, who retired as DGP on tuesday.

Mr Jain had retired on March 31 but was given three months extension by the state government.

The new DGP is considered close to the Samajwadi Party leaders, sources said.

He was made ADG, Law and order, after Akhilesh Yadav took charge as Chief Minister in 2012.
