‘Khaas Aadmi Party’ leaders have become VVIPs, alleges Congress

The Congress Party on Wednesday fired fresh salvos at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party has become a ‘Khaas Aadmi Party’ as their leaders have gradually become VVIPs.

The Congress on Wednesday alleged that former IPL boss Lalit Modi had made a job offer to a family member of a BJP minister and called for an inquiry into the issue by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Lalit Modi, the Indian fugitive, also made an offer to a family member of a minister. Why did he do so, we want the Prime Minister to inquire,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

RSS occupied Muslim graveyard, Geelani condemns

Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani Monday strongly condemned the “forced occupation” of the 150-year-old Muslims’ graveyard land in Bagh Jogian village in Bishnah tehsil of the Jammu district by the “goons of the RSS”.

Caretakers of a temple in Bishnah have planned to start ‘Dangal’ (a sports activity) on the graveyard land, infuriating the local Muslims.

“They (Kashmiri Muslims will not leave their Jammu brethren to suffer at the hands of the communal and fascist forces,” said Geelani.

The NSUI workers staged a protest outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence here on Wednesday over the Value Added Tax (VAT) Amendment Bill.

Kejriwal has come under sharp criticism after the VAT Bill was passed yesterday.

The newly passed bill will make enabling provisions for levy of VAT in respect of goods enlisted in the Fourth Schedule at flexible rates instead of a flat slab of 20 percent. (ANI)

Males influence infant’s brain before pregnancy

Males may play a positive role in the development of offspring’s brain even before pregnancy starts, says a study.

The research found that female mice exposed to male pheromones gave birth to infants with greater mental ability.

“This is the first study to show that pheromone exposure exerts an influence across generations in mammals,” said lead researcher Sachiko Koyama from Indiana University in the US.

“We found that male pheromones seem to influence the nutritional environment following birth, resulting in changes to the brain that could extend to future generations,” she said.

Zydus gets USFDA nod to sell morphine sulfate tablets

Pharmaceuticals major Zydus Group has announced the receipt of an approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to sell chronic pain reliever morphine sulfate tablets.

“The product used in treatment of chronic pain or cancer related pain will be manufactured at Nesher Pharmaceuticals (USA) LLC, located at St Louis,” Cadila Healthcare, a part of Zydus group, said in a filing to the BSE.

A subsidiary of Zydus Pharmaceuticals Inc, Nesher has considerable expertise in niche therapies with development or products barrier, such as controlled release medications, it added.

Indonesia plane crash: President Widodo calls for ‘fundamental overhaul’ of military weaponry

Indonesia President Joko Widodo has called for a ‘fundamental overhaul’ of the management of military weaponry in the country in the wake of a military plane crash that killed 140 people onboard.

President Widodo said that the country could no longer simply buy weapons but should focus on modernising the weapon systems too, ABC News reported.

The statement came shortly after Indonesia’s Air Force chief Air Marshal Agus Supriatna stated that he expected no survivors from the C-130 plane that crashed on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday held that there can be no compromise in a rape case in the name of promising wedlock.

An apex court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said that any compromise promising wedlock between a rape accused and the victim compromises the dignity of the woman.

The court said that such a compromise lacks sensitivity on the part of those promoting a settlement.

The Hercules C-130 transport plane crashed into a residential area in the city of Medan yesterday, shortly after taking off from an airbase in the city on Sumatra island.

CBI to examine ex-telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran today

Former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran will be questioned by CBI in Chennai on Wednesday in connection with a case of allegedly using over 300 high data capacity BSNL telecom lines at his Boat house residence in Chennai.

CBI sources said in Chennai that Maran was called on Tuesday for questioning but he skipped the scheduled meeting.

Cuba has become the first country in the world to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, the World Health Organisation has said.

“Eliminating transmission of a virus is one of the greatest public health achievements possible,” WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said on Tuesday.

“This is a major victory in our long fight against HIV and sexually transmitted infections, and an important step towards having an AIDS-free generation.”

(Siasat News): A girl student, who was failed in her love affair, took the extreme step of ending her life. This incident occurred in Kachiguda police limits where Monika, 18, consumed pesticides.

She was the daughter of one Balaswamy of Nimboli Adda. She was madly in love with a boy but the boy did not reciprocate.

A dejected Monika consumed pesticides on June 24 and died during the treatment. Police Kachiguda is investigating.

Bombay HC defers hearing on appeal to July 13

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday deferred till July 13 an appeal filed by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan against the five-year sentence awarded to him in the hit-and-run case, after the actor’s lawyer sought time to check documents.

Although the ‘paper book’ (compilation of evidence and documents) is ready and copies have been served to both the sides by the court), Salman’s counsel Amit Desai urged for three weeks’ adjournment to check whether the documents were in order.

Justice AR Joshi, however, granted adjournment till July 13 to carry out the drill of checking documents.
