Playing down its submarine’s docking in Pakistan’s Karachi port in May, China has said the movement of Chinese vessels was not directed against any third party and the PLA navy’s activities in the Indian Ocean were “open and transparent”.

Replying to questions about concerns in India over the docking of Chinese submarines in Colombo last year and in Karachi in May, Chinese Defence Spokesman Senior Colonel Yang Yujin said the movement of Chinese vessels was not directed against any third party.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday questioned the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) promise of bringing in a new ‘political culture’ in Delhi and alleged that the money, which should have been used for public welfare, is now used in employing parliamentary secretaries.

“The AAP had made tall claims about bringing a different political culture for the people of Delhi…. It promised to be a pro-people government. But in real sense, the government has turned out to be just the opposite,” Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay told ANI here.

Military checkpoints attacked in Egypt’s Sinai

Militants launched attacks on five military checkpoints in Egypt’s North Sinai peninsula on Wednesday.

Al Ahram Arabic news website quoted security forces as saying that militants have simultaneously fired mortar rounds at five checkpoints in Sheikh Zowayed, a town in North Sinai.

There was no immediate reports of casualties.

West Bengal landslides: ‘Anguished’ Mamata closely monitoring situation

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expressed her grief over the loss of lives after heavy rains and landslides struck Mirik and Kalimpong in the Darjeeling district in the state.

More than 10 people have lost their lives in the incident and the death toll is expected to increase.

” Anguished about loss of lives in Mirik/Kalimpong landslides. Home Secretary already in N Bengal,” tweeted Mamata.

Not maintaining record of Raje`s foreign trips a violation of law: Congress

The Congress on Wednesday launched yet another attack on Vasundhara Raje claiming that the fact that there were no records of the Rajasthan Chief Minister’s foreign trips was a clear violation of law.

“Even MLAs have to inform the Assembly before going abroad. The RTI filed against her reveals that Vasundhara ji’s information on the trip is not in the records. It is a violation of law,” said Congress leader Pratap Singh.

Hearing of Salman’s plea adjourned till July 13

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday postponed till July 13 the hearing of an appeal filed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan against the five-year sentence awarded to him in a 2002 hit-and-run case.

The adjournment was sought by Salman’s lawyer Amit Desai who asked for three more weeks to verify the documents pertaining to the case.

However, Justice A.R. Joshi granted time only till July 13 to complete the process of checking the documents – a compilation of evidence and documents served to both sides by the court.

Chief Public Prosecutor S.S. Shinde consented to the adjournment date.

The US State Department has released a new batch of emails from Hillary Clinton while she served as the secretary of state.

The 3,000 pages of emails were made public on Tuesday on the State Department’s Freedom of Information Act website.

The newly released batch, covering March through December of 2009, was the first batch from a dossier of about 55,000 pages of emails turned over by Clinton from her private email server, Xinhua reported.

Google has released an update of Google Hangouts app for iOS. According to thenextweb.com, the new update includes a new design and better support for adding stickers, emoji and pictures.
