Plans to trifurcate the GHMC dropped by T govt

TRS government seems to have dropped the proposal to trifurcate GHMC going by its proposal to have 200 divisions. In the past, there had been a proposal to break up the unwieldy GHMC into old MCH, Secunderabad and Cyberabad corporations for both administrative and political reasons, but the plan has now seems to go in vain.

Meanwhile, the BJP, which won the MLC polls and hopes for good results in GHMC, is crying foul over the government’s delaying tactics. “The government is trying to drag the polls fearing a rout,” said TS BJP president G. Kishan Reddy.

Nun gang-rape case: Four Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Ludhiana

Punjab Police has confirmed the arrest of four Bangladeshi nationals in Ludhiana for their role in the gang-rape of a nun in West Bengal’s Nadia District last month.

They were arrested last night, the police said, but added that their respective roles in the aforesaid incident is still being ascertained.

Last week, the CID had arrested one suspect from Mumbai in connection with the case.

Earlier last month, around a dozen suspected dacoits entered the Convent of Jesus and Mary and gang-raped the 72-year-old nun.

Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday denied having made the alleged remarks on the complexion of nurses protesting in the state and said he was misquoted.

“I have not made any such comments. What I said is being quoted wrongly,” said Parsekar.

One of the nurses attached to 108 ambulance service had yesterday alleged that Parsekar advised them that they should not stage hunger strike in the sun.

Driver on run with ATM van, Rs 66 lakh

The driver of a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) flee with an ATM van attached to a cash replenishment agency sped away with Rs 66 lakh when other staff members had gone to load money into an ATM in City Market area here on Tuesday.

The vehicle, which belongs to a private travel agency, was hired by Brinks India Private Limited, a firm that provides cash replenishment and deposit services to 15 banks, including the Central Bank of India and the State Bank of India.

Misao Okawa, a Japanese woman recognised as the world’s oldest person who credited her longevity to “eating delicious things” and getting plenty of rest, died at the age of 117 on Wednesday, Japanese media reported.

Okawa, the daughter of a cloth merchant in the western city of Osaka, was born in 1898 – the year that the United States annexed the Hawaiian islands and a new drink named Pepsi-Cola was launched. She shared her birth date with Chinese revolutionary leader Zhou Enlai.

SpiceJet makes part payment of dues to AAI

Budget carrier SpiceJet has made a part payment of its dues to the state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and also signed an agreement with aircraft leasing firm BBAM to settle out of court the dispute over Boeing rentals.

“SpiceJet has paid a part payment of Rs 25 crore to the Airports Authority of India towards the dues it had accumulated due to the cash crunch last year,” sources told PTI here today.

The AAI received the part payment of around Rs 300 crore dues yesterday, they said.

City likely to get 45 MGD water from Krishna Phase III

After a much waited time, the city would finally get water from Krishna phase III, by the second week of April. About 10 MGD water is already being commissioned on trail basis as the water-level in Osmansagar has decreased considerably.

Jagadeeshwar, MD Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board Managing (HMWSSB) said, Initially, 45 MGD would be added and it would doubled by June end. The additional water would compensate the loss at Osmansagar and will bring a relief to areas suffering from inadequate water.

Man falls from height dies at Malakpet

A man died after falling from height at Malakpet. According to Malakpet police 40-year-old Prakash was a watchman and resided in Malakpet. He was working in an under-constructed house but fell down suspiciously and sustained serious injuries. He died while undergoing treatment.

Efforts underway to convince opposition on Land Bill, says M Venkaiah Naidu

Facing stiff opposition on the Land Acquisition Bill, government on Wednesday said efforts are underway to convince political parties on the measure and expressed hope that a consensus would be evolved as it is willing to accommodate their suggestions.

“All senior ministers are on the job to convince all parties and we are hopeful of a consensus emerging on the Land Bill,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

Bengaluru Campus Shooting: Police crack the case, accused nabbed

An 18-year-old girl was gunned down and her friend injured by an attender of a private college after storming into their hostel room in Bengaluru.

The man, identified as Mahesh, last night barged into the hostel room on the third floor in which the two girls, studying second year Pre-University course (standard 12) in Pragathi college at Kadugodi on city outskirts, were residing and fired, killing Gautami instantly and injuring her friend, Bengaluru Police Commissioner M N Reddi told reporters.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal postpones public hearing for a fortnight

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has postponed for a fortnight his public hearing, which was to begin at his Civil Lines residence on Wednesday, due to the ongoing renovation work.

“It may take another 15 days to get all renovation works completed, hence Kejriwal would not be able to meet the applicants,” said one of his aides involved in the management of his public hearing, which will be held thrice every week.

Price cut: How much will petrol and diesel cost in your city?

After two consecutive hikes, petrol prices were today cut by 49 paise per litre and diesel by Rs 1.21 a litre on softening international oil rates.

The reduction in rates will be effective from midnight tonight.

Prices of petrol in Delhi will be Rs 60 a litre from tomorrow as against the current Rs 60.49, while diesel will cost Rs 48.50 per litre as compared with Rs 49.71 currently, Indian Oil Corp (IOC), the nation’s largest oil company, said.
