Pilot raises question over BJP govt’s anniv celebrations

Reacting to reports of proposed anniversary celebrations of Rajasthan BJP government, state Congress chief Sachin Pilot today questioned whether the Raje government deserved celebrations to mark one-year in power early next month.

“What the BJP government has delivered in past one year to public as it promised in its poll manifesto despite high degree of mandate given to it three times,” reacting sharply on Raje government’s plan to hold mega events to mark one-year in power on December 13 next month Pilot told reporters.

Three soldiers killed, 15 wounded in east Ukraine

Three Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 15 wounded in the latest fighting in eastern Ukraine, a military spokesman said today.

Fighting was ongoing around Donetsk airport and in Stanitsa Luganska, near rebel-held Lugansk, the spokesman, Andriy Lysenko, told a news briefing.

The town hall of Donetsk, also held by the separatists, said in a statement that powerful explosions were heard early today and that one civilian was killed.

Also today, the pro-Kiev governor of the Lugansk region said two 78-year-old pensioners were killed in eastern Popasna.

BJP fooling Sena by dragging on power sharing talks: Kadam

Even as ruling BJP in Maharashtra has formally resumed talks with Shiv Sena on issue of joining the government, Sena leader Ramdas Kadam today accused the estranged ally of “fooling” his party by purposefully dragging on power sharing deliberations.

McCullum hails New Zealand win amidst Hughes’ tradegy

Skipper Brendon McCullum hailed New Zealand’s “not so easy” series levelling win in the third Test today in the wake of fellow cricketer Phillip Hughes’s tragic death.

New Zealand thumped Pakistan by an innings and 80 runs to level the three-match series 1-1 in a match overshadowed by Australian batsman Hughes’s untimely death on Thursday.

No breakthrough yet in over Rs 1cr ATM heist in North Delhi

Delhi Police are yet to make any headway in the daring ATM heist in North Delhi in which a security guard was killed, even as investigations reveal glaring security lapses on part of the cash replenishment agency.

Although police has so far questioned more than 100 people including the remaining staff of the cash van, locals and other employees of the cash replenishment agency but they have not achieved a breakthrough as yet.

As many as 10 teams are working to crack the case, including the Special Cell and Crime Branch.

Amit Shah halts speech for azan

BJP president Amit Shah today stopped midway in his speech while addressing a rally here as the muezzin’s call for prayers was sounded from a mosque close by and said he didn’t want to give West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee an excuse against him.

“Let me stop for a while. Let it (the muezzin’s call for azan) be completed. We don’t want to give Mamata Banerjee an excuse against us,” Shah said midway of his 30-minute speech as the azan (prayers) started.

Fan dies after Atletico-Deportivo brawl: hospital

A football fan died of cardiac arrest following clashes near Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon stadium before the Spanish champions’ 2-0 win over Deportivo la Coruna today, a hospital spokeswoman said.

“He died a few minutes ago. He did not survive the cardiac arrest and died in the intensive care unit,” a spokeswoman for Madrid’s Hospital Clinic told AFP. At least 11 other people were injured, emergency medics said.

Police confirmed that 24 people had been arrested in the incidents that took place in the streets parallel to the Manzanares river surrounding the Calderon.

Hi-tech mass copying gang in RRB exam busted; 30 held

Cyberabad police today busted a gang allegedly involved in facilitating hi-tech mass copying in the Railway Recruitment Board examination being conducted at various centres in Hyderabad and other parts of the country and arrested 30 persons in this connection.

A total of 30 persons, including a railway employee and 10 candidates, were arrested in this connection.

Ban on use of ‘Chinese manjha’ in Jaipur

In order to save birds from electrocution and avoid other such cases, Jaipur authorities today banned a use of ‘Chinese manjha’ (Chinese made thread) while flying kites and promulgated prohibitory orders till January 2015 in this connection.

“The prohibitory orders would be effective from December one to January 28, 2015,” an official spokesperson said, quoting District Collector K Kunal.

No person or kite fliers would be allowed to use Chinese manjha while flying kites during this period in entire Jaipur district including rural areas, he said.

4 killed as bus hits autorickshaw in Ujjain

Four persons were today killed after their autorickshaw was allegedly knocked down by a private bus in Nandkheda here, police said.

The mishap took place in the morning when the speeding private chartered bus, which was going to Indore from Ujjain, knocked down an auto-rickshaw at a turn near Triveni bridge under Nandkheda police station here, Nandkheda police station in-charge Inspector Vivek Singh Kanodia.

“Three persons died on the spot while one succumbed to injuried at a district hospital,” he said. The deceased were yet to be identified, they said.

Protester killed in demo for south Yemen independence

Yemeni police shot dead a protester and wounded four others as southern separatists marched today towards the governorate building in the south’s main city of Aden, activists said.

The clash came as tens of thousands of people rallied to demand independence at a time when Shiite militiamen from the north are expanding their control over the impoverished country.

The southerners were marking the 47th anniversary of the end of British colonial rule in 1967, which created an independent state that lasted until union with the north in 1990.

Ruckus at garden launch as Cong objects to Uddhav’s presence

Inauguration of a civic garden at Matunga in north Mumbai today witnessed commotion, when local Congress leaders questioned Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray’s presence in the ceremony.

Thackeray had been invited to inaugurate a reconstructed portion of ‘Five Gardens’ in Matunga. The garden is developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which is ruled by the Shiv Sena.

During the inauguration ceremony, local Congress leaders questioned why the Sena chief had been invited for the function claiming that the development of the garden was done by the Congress.

Released fishermen visit Saibaba temple

The five fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who were sentenced to death in Sri Lanka for alleged drug trafficking but set free after President Mahinda Rajapaksa pardoned them, today visited Saibaba Temple in nearby Pollachi.

7 injured as T’gana DyCM’s escort car hits other vehicles

As many as seven people sustained minor injuries after an escort vehicle from the convoy of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister T Rajaiah’s vehicle got punctured and hit other vehicles at Yashwanthapur village in Raghnathpally mandal this evening, police said.

“The Deputy Chief Minister’s convoy was coming towards Hanumakonda, when one of the escort vehicles got punctured. Due to this, the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit a scooter and other vehicles running ahead,” Sub Inspector of Raghnathpally police station said.

Ulhasnagar municipal corp engineer manhandled by women

A deputy engineer with Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation was allegedly roughed up by a group of women activists in his chamber, police said today.

“The incident happened in the chamber of Sanjay Gaikwad, posted with water supply department, at about 11.30 AM yesterday. Around 20 women barged in his cabin, snatched away documents form his hand, tore his cloths and smeared his face with black paint,” said Hill Line police sub-inspector SM Pawar.

The women were apparently angry with erratic water supply to their locality.

Five policemen booked in connection with custodial death

Five policemen, including the SHO of Budhana Police Station, have been booked for the death of a 50-year-old man in police custody, following a gherao of the police station by hundreds of people today.

Five policemen, identified as SHO Dhanender Mishra, Sub-Inspector Rajesh Sharma, policemen Hariram, Gyanender, and Vipin Kumar, have been booked on the charges of murder in connection with the custodial death of Nawab Qureshi at Budhana town in the district today.

Cong may not revive under current leadership: Venkaiah

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu today said BJP will win majority of seats in states of Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir where Assembly elections are being held.

He also targetted the Congress leadership saying the “defeated party” may not revive under them.

Son of BSNL official missing

A student of senior secondary and the son of a BSNL official is missing since last night, police said.

The victim, identified as Harish Dayal, left his house in Pash Bast Vihar to get his mobile phone recharged last night and did not come back, SSP Ajay Rautela said today.

Police received the missing complaint today and is further investigating the case, he said.
