AP Govt shuffles IAS officers

The Andhra Pradesh State government has announced transfers and postings of IAS officers with immediate effect.
According to the order, L. Prem Chandra Reddy, IAS (1991), Secretary to Government, Finance (Budget& IF) is transferred and posted as Secretary, General Administration (SR) Department, duly relieving Dr P.V.Ramesh, IAS (1985) from the duties.

Telangana Government is mulling options to conduct first Budget session from this month end if not in November. According to information Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is planning to conduct the budget session from Oct 20 for about one month with three days of holidays for Deepavali festival in the last week.

IS closing in on Syria’s Kurdish city

Islamic State (IS) militants are closing in on the Kurdish city of Kobane in northern Syria, as violent battles between Kurdish fighters and the armed group continue around the contested city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Thursday.

Intense clashes are raging between the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and IS militants surrounding the city, Xinhua reported citing the Observatory.

According to the Syrian opposition human rights group, the YPG withdrew to the city’s outskirts as IS fighters advanced from the western part of the city.

Four civilians injured in cross-border firing

Four civilians were injured after Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing on positions of de-facto border Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceasefire violations by Pakistan were met with retaliation by Border Security (BSF) Force.

Father of an injured person Khalil Ahmed said that people started fleeing after there was firing for a long period.

PM Modi congratulates medal winners at Asian Games 2014

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the medal winners at the Incheon Asian Games.

“Very good day for India at the Asian Games. Congrats to our Hockey Team and congrats to our women athletes for the Gold in 4×400 metres relay,” said the Prime Minister.

“I have been closely following India’s progress at the Asian Games and I congratulate every medal winner. You make India very proud,” he added.

India today won the hockey finals in Asian Games 2014 held at South Korea’s Incheon city after defeating Pakistan 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

Uganda’s new prime minister sworn in

Uganda’s new prime minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, was sworn in Thursday at a ceremony at the State House in Entebbe, 40 km south of the capital Kampala.

Rugunda, a former health minister who replaces the sacked Amama Mbabazi, took the oath of allegiance before President Yoweri Museveni, Xinhua reported.

Uganda’s parliament had Tuesday approved Rugunda appointment the sacking of Mbabazi by President Museveni Sep 19.

Animals sacrificed on streets of Odisha

Animals were today sacrificed on the streets of Bhawanipatna town in Odisha’s Kalahandi districts as the procession of Goddess Manekeswari proceeded on the occasion of the Mahashtami of Durga Puja.

Devotees sacrificed goats, sheep and other animals along the 4-km-long road from Manikeswari temple to Jenakhol as part of the age-old ritual to appease the goddess.

The procession, which continued amid beating of drums and other tribal instruments, culminated after more than 6 hours.

Lakhs of devotes from different parts of Odisha and neighboring states attended.

Modi delighted by Obama gift of book containing Swami

US President Barack Obama gifted a “rare book” which contains among other things a paper by Swami Vivekananda to Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to America, the Prime Minister today said.

The book is on the Parliament of World’s Religions of 1893 which has a paper of Swami Vivekananda whose writings are known to have influenced Modi.

The PM said that he will “cherish” the “very valuable gift” forever.

High voltage burns electronic goods in houses in Amberpet

Electronic goods in several houses in Bapunagar locality in Amberpet were burnt allegedly due to high voltage of electricity.

AP CM for “pooling” system to procure land for new capital

Andhra Pradesh government will procure land from farmers for setting up new capital city in Vijayawada region through “land pooling” but will also keep the acquisition route open, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said here today.

“The land for construction of new capital would be taken from farmers under land pooling in which farmers will have a share after the development (of capital) instead of compensation. Land pooling would be beneficial for farmers and the government would take up an awareness campaign for the same,” Naidu said here.
