Humaima recently attended the premiere of fellow Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s first Hindi film “Khubsoorat” in Karachi and said that she is “pleased with Pakistani actors making big names internationally”.

Speaker rejects Pakistan PM’s disqualification ref

The Speaker of Pakistan’s parliament today rejected a reference that sought Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification for allegedly lying to the National Assembly about seeking military’s help to end anti-government protests.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq dismissed the reference and refused to forward it to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for a decision.

“Reference being legally and factually baseless does not result in any disqualification under Article 63(2) of the constitution and therefore, I decline to refer it the ECP,” he said.

BJP is not against any community, says Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Transport and Rural Development Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said the BJP is for development with true national spirit and is not against any community as projected by rival political parties.

Mr. Gadkari was in the city to campaign for party candidates Sudhir Mungatiwar and Nana Shamkule who are contesting Maharashtra assembly polls.

He said that his party is opposed to terrorism and it is Pakistan, who after humiliating defeats in three wars, has waged proxy war against India as well as fuelling hatred among Hindus and Muslims in India.

Complete game for us ahead of final: Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said his side played a “complete game” to beat Kings XI Punjab and enter the Champions League T20 final here on Thursday.

“Overall I think it was a complete game for us,” said Dhoni after Chennai beat Punjab by 65 runs to enter the CLT20 final for the second time.

“I think Faf’s (du Plessis) innings was very crucial along with Bravo (Dwayne). Faf was rotating very well and he eased the pressure off Bravo,” he said of Bravo and du Plessis who smashed 67 and 46 runs respectively.

Indian women’s team win gold in Asiad kabaddi

The Indian women’s kabaddi team beat Iran in the final to clinch the gold medal at the 17th Asian Games here Friday.

India beat Iran 31-21 Songdo Global University Gymnasium to continue their dominance in the discipline at the Asiad.

India won the gold in Guangzhou, four years ago — the first time women’s kabaddi was introduced in the Asiad. The men’s team have won all the six previous gold medals on offer at the Games.

Ebola cases top 7,000 in West Africa: UN

The UN World Health Organisation (WHO) reported that more than 7,000 people have been diagnosed with infection of the Ebola virus disease in West Africa, a UN spokesperson said Thursday.

The number of Ebola cases has totalled 7,178, with 3,338 reported deaths based on the information provided by the health ministries of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters at a press briefing, quoting statistics given by the WHO, Xinhua reported.

16 IS fighters killed in Syria

The armed Kurdish militia killed 16 fighters of the Islamic State (IS) Sunni radical group near the city of Kobane in northern Syria Thursday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The IS fighters were targeted by the Kurdish People’s Protection Unites (YPG) in the village of Halang, close to the predominantly Kurdish city of Kobane, where the militant group is on a crushing offensive against the Kurdish militants.

In the southeastern parts of Kobane, at least seven Kurdish fighters were killed during clashes with IS, according to the Observatory.

Six injured in Pakistan firing in Jammu and Kashmir

At least six people were injured after Pakistan opened fire on Indian positions on the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, government sources said Friday.

“Six civilians sustained injuries after the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions on the LoC in Poonch district yesterday (Thursday),” a senior administration official told IANS in Jammu.

The Pakistan Army used mortar shells to target Indian positions. Six houses were also damaged in the firing, state government sources said.

Sunil Narine suspended from bowling in CLT20 final

In a big blow to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Sunil Narine was Thursday suspended from bowling in Oppo CLT20, making the premier spinner ineligible for bowling in Saturday’s final.

This followed a report on his suspected illegal bowling action during Thursday’s match between KKR and Hobart Hurricanes here. KKR won the match to storm into the final.

162 medical experts reach Sierra Leone to fight Ebola

Following the arrival of 59 medical experts from China about two weeks ago, 162 Cuban medical experts arrived in Sierra Leone to join in the fight against the Ebola disease.

The team was received at the Lungi international airport by the west African country’s Deputy Health Minister Madina Rahman, Xinhua reported.

Rahman noted that they have left the comfort of their homes and family to come and help the people of Sierra Leone in their fight to eradicate the Ebola disease.

Burglars strike at NRI’s house in Tolichowki

Some unidentified burglars committed the theft of gold ornaments worth more than Rs 3.5 lakh by breaking open a lock house in Golconda police limits.

The burglary was noticed in the wee hours of Thursday. According to Additional Inspector Anil Kumar, the complainant, Md Taher, a Dubai-based NRI, went for a function along with his family members on Wednesday night. However, when he returned his house in Satya Colony of Tolichowki at about 3 AM, he found that the locks of his main door and also the almirah were broken and gold ornaments of about 15 tolas were stolen.

Unidentified women kidnaps 4-year-old girl

A four-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by two unidentified women in the Kushaiguda police limits on Thursday morning.

According to police, the girl, Jahanvi, was kidnapped when she went to a kirana store near her house in Hanuman Nagar along with her cousins Shreya and Jyotsna to buy chocolates. On the pretext of praising the girl for being cute, one of the woman lifted Jahanvi in her arms and both fled from scene.
