Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said here on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a great welcome on his visit to the United States.

“PM Modi was given a great welcome in the US. The Indian diaspora is now excited about their motherland,” Bhagwat said while delivering his annual Vijaya Dashmi Utsav address on the 89th foundation day of the RSS.

Yesudas sparks row by resenting women wearing jeans

Sparking a controversy, music legend K J Yesudas on Thursday resented women wearing jeans, saying this went against Indian culture.

“Women should not cause trouble to others by wearing jeans….What should be covered should be covered,” Yesudas said at a function organised by a voluntary organisation in connection with the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations here.

The 74-year-old singer said this kind of dress went against Indian culture which valued simplicity and amiability as the greatest qualities of women.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has more Facebook fans in the US than most current members of Congress, governors and other political candidates, according to a media report.

Modi’s American Facebook base of 170,529 as of Wednesday is larger than all but 21 American elected officials and current candidates, the New York Times reported citing Socialbakers, a site that tracks social media accounts.

AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa is not getting VIP treatment, but being looked after as any other ordinary prisoner at the Parapanna Agrahara Central prison where she is lodged after conviction in the disproportionate assets case, according to a top jail official.

“Madam (Jayalalithaa) is getting no VIP treatment. She is being treated as any other prisoner at Parapanna Agrahara,” DIG Prisons P M Jaisimha told PTI here.

Palestinians, Israelis resume talks on Gaza

Palestinians and Israelis have resumed negotiations on implementation of the permanent ceasefire agreed to in August that put an end to 50 days of intense conflict on the Gaza Strip.

The meeting Thursday was attended by Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Robert Serry and Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Yoav Mordechai, according to a statement from the office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

ISRO to launch IRNSS 1C on Oct 10

ISRO will launch the third of seven series of satellites to put in place India’s own navigation system on par with US’ Global Positioning System (GPS) from the spaceport of Sriharikota on October 10.

The launch has been scheduled at 1.56 AM on October 10, ISRO said today.

The IRNSS 1C satellite would be launched on the 28th flight of India’s PSLV-C26 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, some 100 km from here.

Turkey’s parliament passes resolution to join international campaign against IS in Iraq, Syria

Turkey’s parliament has reportedly backed a motion that would allow its forces to join the international campaign to combat the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria.

The resolution was passed with a three-quarters majority and will also authorize foreign troops to use the Turkish territory for the operation, reported the BBC.

Turkey has been under pressure to join the United States-led coalition to take on the militant group, the report said.

The Turkish government agreed to engage directly with the IS after the release of 46 hostages last month.

Indian men win seventh kabaddi gold at Asiad

Indian men’s team edged Iran in a nerve-racking final to win its seventh consecutive kabaddi gold medal at the Asian Games here Friday.

India, who have won every single gold since men’s kabaddi was introduced in 1990 in Beijing, trailed Iran for the majority of the match but came back strongly to win 27-25 at the Songdo Global University Gymnasium.

A brilliant second half, at the beginning of which they trailed Iran by eight points, saw the Indians outscore their opponents 14-4 to edge them by just two points to clinch gold.

Nine killed, 30 injured in Pakistan accident

At least nine people were killed and over 30 injured when a bus overturned in Pakistan, media reported Friday.

The accident took place late Thursday near Pul Phalka in Uch Sharif in Punjab province, Geo TV reported.

The bus was on its way to Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The injured people have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

Man crushed to death by RTC bus
(Siasat News): A man was crushed to death by an RTC bus that had lost control in S R Nagar. The deceased Nazeeruddin, 37, was the resident of Nampally

He was returning from S R Nagar after getting repaired his auto when the reckless RTC driver fatally hit him.

He was operating his autorickshaw in Shamshabad area and had come to S R Nagar for the repairing work but fate had something otherwise.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has reportedly termed the United States’ decision to categorize three Pakistan-based organizations as terror outfits a “unilateral move” that does not apply to Pakistan.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said during a media briefing in Islamabad that there is a procedure at the United Nations to declare a person or an organization as a terrorist but the U.S.’ decision to designate the three organizations as terror groups does not apply to Pakistan, reported the Dawn.

Deputy chief minister of Telangana state Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali reviewed Hajj-e-Akber arrangements. He reached Mina and met Hajj pilgrims. He asked them regarding the facilities provided to them.

Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali made detailed visit to Mina and later discussed measures to ensure effective provision of water and electricity, with Saudi authorities and Hajj Committee officials.

Chinese model goes on nude protest for not getting ‘free boob job’

A Chinese model recently stripped naked after she got to know that she was not entitled to a free boob job.

Wu Xi’er, one of China’s most-photographed models protested nakedly at the Shisanba Clinic in Beijing, the Daily Star reported.

Xi’er, who was only wearing a pair of flesh colored briefs, said that she was not being boastful but her boobs were probably the most seen, most famous breasts in the whole of China and it was “insulting”.
