AP sets up new body to empower farmers, implement debt relie

The Andhra Pradesh Government on Saturday issued formal order constituting a body which will “operationalise its farm sector debt redemption policy” and also serve as a “one-stop-shop” for welfare and empowerment activities targeted at farmers in the State.
Farmers’ Empowerment Corporation (FEC), which will be headquartered in Vijayawada, around which the new Andhra capital will come up, is to become “fully functional” by October 22, a date announced earlier by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

40 fishermen released by Sri Lanka court return home

Forty fishermen from this coastal town, who were part of 76 arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in different batches and ordered to be released by a court in the island nation, arrived here on Saturday.

The fishermen who were arrested near Katchatheevu islet on September 11 were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard by the Sri Lankan Naval personnel at the International Maritime Boundary Line at 1100 hrs, ‘Q’ branch inspector Kennedy said.

Pak troops violate ceasefire nine times in four days

Pakistani troops continued breaching the ceasefire along the LoC for the fourth successive day on Saturday by resorting to unprovoked firing and shelling, while two persons have been injured and several houses damaged in Jammu region overnight due to the violation.

Army troops guarding the borderline with Pakistan, effectively responded to the firing.

“Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing on Indian forward posts along LoC in Sabjian belt of Poonch district around 1050 hours today,” a Defence spokesman said here tonight.

TDP Govt to revive “Dhoti and Sari” Scheme

GHMC makes special arrangements for Bakrid

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar held a review meeting with all the senior officials with regard to arrangements regarding Bakrid festival.

Pregnant widow murdered for resisting rape attempt in Cyberabad limits

A 35-year-old woman was throtled to death when she resisted the attempt by an unidentified to rape her.

According to Mailardevpally Inspector S N Javeed, the incident occurred in a house near Budvel Railway Station on Friday night. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the victim, B Rama Devi, was murdered by a person when she resisted his attempt to rape her. She was a native of Raichur. Her husband, Srinu, died about six months ago and she shifted to Hyderabad two months later. She is having a five-year-old daughter.

Student dies after falling from height in Begumpet limits

A-13-year-old student died of injuries which he suffered after falling from second floor of a building in Begumpet police station limits.

According to Begumpet police, the deceased Abdul Ghouse (13) an Student S/o Abdul Madiuddin Resident of Brahmanwadi of Begumpet, deceased accidentally fallen from second floor of a building on Friday night hours when he was sleeping on terrace, due to which he received multiple injuries, immediately rushed to nearest hospital for treatment where doctors declared brought dead.

City Police imposes restrictions on vehicular traffic for Eid prayers

City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy has imposed certain restrictions on the movement of vehicular traffic on routes leading towards two major Idgahs in view of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) prayers on October 6.

The traffic restrictions have been imposed around the Idgah Mir Alam in Old City and Balamrai Idgah in Secunderabad.

Gear up for budget session, KCR tells sadaram

In the wake of Budget session likely to begin from October 20, Legislature Secretary Dr Raja Sadaram today called on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Secretariat here.
Sadaram discussed with the Chief Minister on the arrangements being made and steps to be taken for smooth conduct of the session. KCR Ignoring Muslim Minorities: Shabbir Ali

Deputy CLP leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has accused the TRS Government of completely ignoring the welfare of minorities in the State.

In a pressnote here on Saturday, Shabbir Ali alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao did not evince interest in fulfilling the promises he made during the electioneering. Even after completion of more than 125 days in power, the government did not take a single major decision with regard to the welfare of minorities. BJP blames ‘administrative lapses’ for Patna stampede

BJP on Saturday blamed administrative “lapse” of the Bihar government for the stampede near the historic Gandhi Maidan here on Dusshera festival which claimed 33 lives and left 29 persons injured.

Blaming the administration for the incident, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav said, “The loss of 33 lives is due to the failure of administration. The arrangements for ‘Ravana Vadh’ ceremony at Gandhi Maidan were very slack in comparison to the huge crowd that attends it.”

Swachh Bharat campaign in DLRL held

Swachh Bharat campaign was organized in 52 years old Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) here on a grand scale on Friday.

Hong Kong protesters be cleared by Monday: Chief executive

In the wake of further violent clashes, Hong Kong’s chief executive Leung Chun-ying Saturday said the streets must be cleared of the pro-democracy protests by Monday, the Guardian reported.

Leung said it in a TV address as legislators suggested government might act to clear streets no later than Sunday.

Somali government forces retake town from militants

Somali government forces backed by African Union (AU) peacekeeping troops Saturday announced the capture of a coastal town from Al-Shabaab militants, officials and media said.

“The Somalia National Army (SNA) supported by AMISOM peacekeepers have liberated the coastal town of Adale in the Middle Shebelle region after Al-Shabaab terrorists fled the town,” Xinhua quoted the AU Somalia mission, known as AMISOM, as saying in a statement.
