The Andhra Pradesh Government on Saturday issued formal order constituting a body which will “operationalise its farm sector debt redemption policy” and also serve as a “one-stop-shop” for welfare and empowerment activities targeted at farmers in the State.
Farmers’ Empowerment Corporation (FEC), which will be headquartered in Vijayawada, around which the new Andhra capital will come up, is to become “fully functional” by October 22, a date announced earlier by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Forty fishermen from this coastal town, who were part of 76 arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in different batches and ordered to be released by a court in the island nation, arrived here on Saturday.

The fishermen who were arrested near Katchatheevu islet on September 11 were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard by the Sri Lankan Naval personnel at the International Maritime Boundary Line at 1100 hrs, ‘Q’ branch inspector Kennedy said.

Pakistani troops continued breaching the ceasefire along the LoC for the fourth successive day on Saturday by resorting to unprovoked firing and shelling, while two persons have been injured and several houses damaged in Jammu region overnight due to the violation.

Army troops guarding the borderline with Pakistan, effectively responded to the firing.

“Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing on Indian forward posts along LoC in Sabjian belt of Poonch district around 1050 hours today,” a Defence spokesman said here tonight.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu today reiterated that his government was committed for the welfare of the poor people.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a function on the occasion of “Janma bhoomi-Maa Vooru” program organized at Angaram in East Godavari district. Naidu said pension for handicapped persons has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1500. “We will fulfill the promise given to weavers that their loans would be waived, he added.

A 35-year-old woman was throtled to death when she resisted the attempt by an unidentified to rape her.

According to Mailardevpally Inspector S N Javeed, the incident occurred in a house near Budvel Railway Station on Friday night. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the victim, B Rama Devi, was murdered by a person when she resisted his attempt to rape her. She was a native of Raichur. Her husband, Srinu, died about six months ago and she shifted to Hyderabad two months later. She is having a five-year-old daughter.

A-13-year-old student died of injuries which he suffered after falling from second floor of a building in Begumpet police station limits.

According to Begumpet police, the deceased Abdul Ghouse (13) an Student S/o Abdul Madiuddin Resident of Brahmanwadi of Begumpet, deceased accidentally fallen from second floor of a building on Friday night hours when he was sleeping on terrace, due to which he received multiple injuries, immediately rushed to nearest hospital for treatment where doctors declared brought dead.

An Unidentified man was bludgeoned to death in Sainagar on Oct 1 was identified today as K Narsimha under L B Nagar police station limits.

City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy has imposed certain restrictions on the movement of vehicular traffic on routes leading towards two major Idgahs in view of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) prayers on October 6.

In the wake of Budget session likely to begin from October 20, Legislature Secretary Dr Raja Sadaram today called on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Secretariat here.
Sadaram discussed with the Chief Minister on the arrangements being made and steps to be taken for smooth conduct of the session. It is understood that the CM directed Sadaram to expedite the process for the first budget session of Telangana Assembly and Council post bifurcation. The session may run for about four weeks and have three days of holidays during Deepavali which falls on October 23.

Deputy CLP leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has accused the TRS Government of completely ignoring the welfare of minorities in the State.

In a pressnote here on Saturday, Shabbir Ali alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao did not evince interest in fulfilling the promises he made during the electioneering. Even after completion of more than 125 days in power, the government did not take a single major decision with regard to the welfare of minorities. It confined itself to mere promises and assurances while giving no indications of fulfilling them.

To tide over power crisis, the Telangana Government today got into an agreement with BHEL for production of 6,000 MW of power on EPC basis. BHEL officials today called on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Secretariat here and signed a memorandum of understanding with Telangana Genco officials.

BJP on Saturday blamed administrative “lapse” of the Bihar government for the stampede near the historic Gandhi Maidan here on Dusshera festival which claimed 33 lives and left 29 persons injured.

Blaming the administration for the incident, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav said, “The loss of 33 lives is due to the failure of administration. The arrangements for ‘Ravana Vadh’ ceremony at Gandhi Maidan were very slack in comparison to the huge crowd that attends it.”

Telangana Congress leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy today demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao pay attention to emergency health services and law and order to protect women and girls.

Addressing the media at Congress Legislature Party office here, Sudhakar Reddy alleged that due to lack of fuel to 108 vehicles of the government were failing to cater to the needs of patients. He asked the TRS government to take immediate steps to restore the vehicles and ensure speedy medical services to the people.

Swachh Bharat campaign was organized in 52 years old Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) here on a grand scale on Friday.

More than 450 employees of DLRL, one of the laboratories of DRDO, participated in the campaign and administered Swachh pledge to all the employees. Massive cleaning operation drive and tree plantation was also carried out across the widespread campus measuring 220 acres.

Justice G. Bhavani Prasad, retired judge of High Court, has been appointed Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC).

The Government of Andhra Pradesh issued a GO on Saturday appointing Justice G. Bhavani Prasad as Chairman of APERC for a term of five years with effect from the date he enters upon his office or till he attains the age of 65 years whichever is earlier. (NSS)

In the wake of further violent clashes, Hong Kong’s chief executive Leung Chun-ying Saturday said the streets must be cleared of the pro-democracy protests by Monday, the Guardian reported.

Leung said it in a TV address as legislators suggested government might act to clear streets no later than Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday sought to reach out to Mumbai’s slumdwellers promising each of them homes with water and power connections by 2022.

“The poor and slumdwellers have sweated and toiled hard for Mumbai. I pledge to give them their own homes with water and power supply by 2022. The same will be given to all poor in the country,” Modi said, addressing his maiden rally in Mumbai for the Oct 15 assembly elections.

Acknowledging the importance of Mumbai and Maharashtra, he noted that if Mumbai lags, the whole country lags in progress and development.

Somali government forces backed by African Union (AU) peacekeeping troops Saturday announced the capture of a coastal town from Al-Shabaab militants, officials and media said.

“The Somalia National Army (SNA) supported by AMISOM peacekeepers have liberated the coastal town of Adale in the Middle Shebelle region after Al-Shabaab terrorists fled the town,” Xinhua quoted the AU Somalia mission, known as AMISOM, as saying in a statement.
