Heavy showers in Mumbai; MeT predicts more downpour

With heavy rains lashing the city for second consecutive day today, the MeT department has predicted that the monsoon is likely to get stronger in Mumbai where heavy downpour is expected over the next 48 hours.

“We have issued an alert of heavy rainfall in Mumbai and very heavy rainfall in Central Maharashtra and Konkan region over the next 48 hours,” VK Rajeev, Director General of Regional Meteorological Centre at Mumbai, said.

Three killed, six injured in knife attack in China school

Enraged over a primary school’s decision to reject his daughter’s admission, a knife wielding Chinese man went on a killing spree on Monday, slaying three students and injuring six others before committing suicide, the second such attack in two days.

The attacker surnamed Chen broke into the Dongfang primary school in Yunxi County in Hubei province and virtually slaughtered the pupils and teachers this morning, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

IS slogan found on school walls in Saudi Arabia

Slogans praising Sunni militant group Islamic State (IS) were found on the walls of some schools in the Saudi Arabia capital following Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz’s call for coordinated counter-terrorism efforts.

The pro-IS slogans were found on the walls of schools in the Al-Naseem neighbourhood of east Riyadh, Saudi Gazette reported Sunday.

Five-year old raped, murdered in Mumbai

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Borivali as per reports.

It was reported on Monday that the body of the girl was found under a flyover.

This was just near the footpath where she was sleeping along with her family.

Her body was discovered by her family lying in a pool of blood in the morning. They then informed the police.

As per reports, the marks on her body had marks suggested she had been strangled.

The minor is also said to have injuries on her private parts.

Govt extends visa of Taslima Nasreen for one year

After making several requests to the Home Ministry that she be allowed to stay in India for a longer period, controversial writer Taslima Nasreen’s visa has been extended for one year, as per reports on Monday.

Nasreen’s visa has been extended till August 2015.

On August 2 she had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh who she requested to extend her visa.

“The honourable Home Minister assured me that my long-term residential permit would be granted as soon as possible.
I am grateful to him for his gesture, I really appreciate it”, Taslima told TV channels.

KCR not bothered about state development—Jaggareddy

Coming down heavily on the TRS government, BJP candidate for Medak Lok Sabha seat Turpu Jayaprakash Reddy, known as Jaggareddy, today alleged that the KCR government is not yet all bothered about the development of the state, and the TRS leaders indulged only in insulting Andhra people.

Court asks Police to file case against Revanth Reddy

The Nampally Court in the city has directed the Police authorities to file a case against the Telangana TDP senior Leader Revanth Reddy, following a petition filed by an Advocate Govardhan, alleging that Revanth had passed improper remarks on the Telangana chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Minister K T Rama Rao.

Responding to the petition filed by the Advocate, the Court directed the Banjara Hills Police to submit a report in the matter before September 6. (NSS)

Sand mafia tries to kill revenue inspector in Vizianagaram

The driver of a tractor carrying illegally mined sand tried to kill Pusapatirega revenue inspector B Muralikrishna after he tried to stop the vehicle near Konayyapalem under Pusapatirega police station limits on Monday.

According to the police, Muralikrishna went to Divalasagedda where illegal sand mining is rampant to stop illegal transportation of sand after receiving a phone call from a source.

He tried to intercept tractors carrying sand at Konnyyapalem, but four tractor drivers failed to stop their vehicles and proceeded towards Pusapatirega.

TS Govt plans harithaharam with 230 Cr saplings

Aimed at extending green cover from the existing 25.16 per cent to 30 per cent in coming three years, the Telangana Government is taking up an ambitious plan “Telangana Ku Haritha Haram”, a flagship program to plant 230 crore saplings in the State. Out of these, some 130 crore saplings are proposed to be planted outside the forest areas i.e. 10 crore within the HMDA area and 120 crore in the remaining area of the State. Another 100 crore plants will be rejuvenated by intensive protection of the forests and from the existing root stock in the forest areas.

BJP president Amit Shah will visit Mumbai Thursday and is likely to meet Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to finalise seat-sharing between the two allies for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, a party official said Monday.

Raqibul Hasan’s police remand extended by three days

A court here extended the police remand of Ranjit Kohli alias Raqibul Hasan, an accused in the ‘Love Jihad’ by three days on Monday.

A team of National Investigating Agency (NIA) is also in the Jharkhand capital amid reports that Hasan’s foreign connections have been unearthed by the investigating team. NIA may also seek his custody, reports added.

Yesterday, police seized 36 SIM cards and 15 mobile phones, two CPUs, four printers, two air shooting guns and documents related to court from Raqibul’s house.

Japan to aid connectivity upgrade in northeast India

India and Japan Monday decided to strengthen cooperation for improving connectivity and socio-economic development in northeastern states of India.

According to an Indian government release issued after summit meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, both sides welcomed the study by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on “regional connectivity between northeast India and the neighbouring countries”.

KCR visits IDH Colony–Promises houses in 6 Months

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today directed the officials concerned to begin the works related to construction of houses at Bohi Guda IDH Colony under Sanath Nagar limits.

Minor raped in Delhi’s Chandni Mahal area, accused nabbed

A 9-year-old girl was allegedly raped by neighbour’s relatives in Chandni Mahal area of central Delhi.

Police said that the incident took place Tuesday evening when victim, who hails from Bihar, was playing alone outside her house, adding that accused was apprehended.

“Girl’s parents had sent her to Delhi for study four years ago and she was enrolled in a nearby government school.

The accused too had come to a distant relative’s home on a visit and had been staying there for the past few days.
