KCR to host dinner for Metro Polis at Chowmohalla Palace

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is planning to host dinner for the delegates of Metro Polis conference, to be held from October 7 to 10th, at Chowmohalla Palace.

According to sources, the Chief Minister’s preferred Chowmohalla Palace over other venues as it is represents the rich heritage of Hyderabad and quite symbolic. The dinner is likely to be hosted on the inaugural day of the conference on September 7. (INN)

Take up fishermen’s arrest issue at highest level: Jayalalithaa to Modi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up with Sri Lanka’s highest authorities the issue of arrest of Indian fishermen.

In a letter to Modi, the text of which was released to the media here, she said: “The alarmingly increasing frequency of apprehension of our fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy is a matter of utmost concern for my government. An immediate intervention at the highest level is sought to resolve this long-standing issue.”

IS beheads second US journalist

Days after the beheading of American photojournalist James Foley, Sunni militant group Islamic State (IS) has posted a video showing the beheading of another kidnapped American journalist Steven Sotloff, CNN reported.

Titled “A second message to America”, the video also threatens the life of British captive David Haines.

Sotloff speaks to the camera before he is killed, saying he is “paying the price” for US intervention, the news channel reported.

AP Express may be renamed as the “Telangana Express”

The Hyderabad-New Delhi AP Express is most likely to be renamed as Telangana Express.

According to sources, following representation made by the TRS MPs, the South Central Railway has sent the recommendation to the Central Railway authorities seeking change in the name of AP Express. However, already there is a train named Telangana Express that runs between Sirpur-Kagaznagar. In case, the authorities decide to rename AP Express, then the present Telangana Express too would be renamed. (INN)

Britain asks citizens to review travel plans to Pakistan

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised its citizens to review their planned trips to Pakistan in view of the volatile security situation in the country.

“There is a high threat of terrorism, kidnapping and sectarian violence throughout Pakistan,” Dawn online quoted an FCO travel advisory as saying Monday.

The warning, also released from British High Commission in Islamabad, includes travel plans of diplomats and official delegations.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels his side played a “perfect game” today as the visitors thrashed England by nine wickets in the fourth One-Dayer to take an invincible 3-0 lead in thne five-match series here.

Opting to bowl, India first restricted England to a modest 206 and then overwhelmed the target in 30.3 overs to record their third consecutive victory in the ODI series at the the Edgbaston, in what turned out to be yet another lopsided contest.

Death row convict may be heard in open court, says SC

The Supreme Court Tuesday held that in the cases where it has upheld a death sentence, the convict will have a right to have his review petition heard by a three judges bench in open court.

A constitution bench of Chief Justice R.M. Lodha, Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Justice A.K.Sikri and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, in a majority judgment, said: “We make it clear that the law laid down in this judgment, viz., the right of a limited oral hearing in review petitions where death sentence is given, shall be applicable only in pending review petitions and such petitions filed in future.”

“In addition to being a seat country, Morocco is planning to play a leading role in securing a good start, successful establishment and operation of the Africa 50 fund”, he told a mission of the African Development Bank visiting Morocco to kick-start the inception of the legal formalities of the Fund which will be headquartered at the “Casablanca Finance City”.

The Samajwadi Party Tuesday petitioned the Election Commission to ban BJP parliamentarian Yogi Adityanath and union minister Kalraj Mishra from campaigning in the Sep 13 bye-elections in Uttar Pradesh.

DDA’S EWS flats scheme challenged in HC, hearing on Sep 24

An organisation of slum dwellers Tuesday moved the Delhi High Court, challenging DDA’s new housing scheme and seeking direction to the government to allot them the flats meant for the economically-weaker sections.

Slum dwellers residing in Shankar Garden and Indra Camp No 2, 4, and 5 at Vikaspuri, under the aegis of JJ Cluster Dwellers Welfare Association, moved the court saying they should be handed over the possession of 2,382 flats at Dwarka Sector 23, which they claim are now being offered in the DDA’s 2014 housing scheme under the general category.

New sensor to detect tiny, individual nano-particles

In a major breakthrough, a team of researchers has developed a new sensor that can detect and count nano-particles, at sizes as small as ten nano-metres, one at a time.

Engineered materials about a billionth of a metre in size, nanoparticles can benefit human health, as in some innovative early cancer treatments, but they can also interfere with it through viruses, air pollution, traffic emissions, cosmetics, sunscreen and electronics.

The sensor could potentially detect much smaller particles, viruses and small molecules, the researchers said.

Jharkhand minister admits meeting Rakibul

Jharkhand Minister Haji Hussain Ansari has admitted that he knows national shooter Tara Shahdeo’s husband Ranjit Kohli alias Rakibul Hassan and attended the dinner hosted by him after his marriage to Tara Shahdeo.

“I met Rakibul two or three times. When monsoon session of Jharkhand assembly was on, I was invited by Rakibul to attend a dinner as I had not attended his marriage. During the dinner, I came to know that his marriage was solemnised in both Hindu and Muslim ways,” Ansari told reporters.

He said: “Rakibul met me saying that he was running an NGO involved in plantation work”.

Five Delhi policemen injured in mob attack

Five policemen, including a station house officer (SHO), were injured while trying to stop a mob from beating up two school girls and their two male friends here Tuesday, police said.

The mob also set afire two police motorcycles and damaged a police van.

The incident occurred around 8.30 a.m. at Karawal Nagar in east Delhi.

Police said the mob became angry after a 23-year-old youth named Sunil reached the house of his 22-year-old friend Aamir along with two Class 9 girl students studying in a nearby government school.

15 troops, 50 militants killed in Ukraine clashes

At least 15 troops and 50 pro-Russian militants have been killed since Monday as Ukrainian forces engaged in fierce fighting against militias in the country’s eastern regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.

A military official confirmed Tuesday the casualties suffered on the government troops’ side.

Forty-nine other Ukrainian servicemen were wounded, Xinhua quoted Andrei Lysenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, as saying.

Delhi Metro services affected after OHE wire breaks down

Metro Services of Line 3/4 (Dwarka Sec-21 to Noida City Centre/Vaishali) were affected today for about an hour when a portion of the OHE (Over Head Electricity) wire broke down between Janakpuri West and Uttam Nagar East station of the line going towards Dwarka. The train services were mainly affected from 08:24 am to 09:47 am between Jankapuri West and Dwarka section of UP line. However, the services from Jankpuri West to Noida City Centre/Vaishali Metro station were provided by running trains on a short loop on this section.

City RRO Clears Record Number Of Passports

Regional Passport Office here has created a national record by issuing 84,752 passports in one month (August 2014). The Passport office conducted a clearance drive on a call from the Joint Secretary and Chief Passport officer, Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi.
