‘Adityanath chosen for BJP campaign in UP after much thought’

Justifying its decision to appoint Yogi Adityanath as the face of its campaign for the Uttar Pradesh bypolls, BJP today said the MP was chosen after much deliberation within the party.

“It was done after much deliberations,” BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said when asked whether there was any special reason to choose Adityanath among the three party leaders entrusted with leading the BJP campaign for the upcoming bye-elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Hooda hits back, calls Birendra Singh ‘frustrated’

A day after BJP leader Birender Singh launched an all out offensive against Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Chief Minister hit back at the former Congress leader saying his remarks are a result of “frustration”.

“I have read about these (remarks) in the newspapers…I can say one thing that he is leveling all charges out of sheer frustration,” Hooda said.

The Chief Minister refuted assertions made by Birender that he did not let him become a part of the union cabinet last year and said that the latter was made the Congress party’s General Secretary and a Rajya Sabha MP.

Modi meets Netaji’s oldest living associate

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met Saichiro Misumi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s oldest living associate in Japan, at a function here.

Modi met Misumi, 93, at a reception hosted by India-Japan Association and Japan-India Parliamentary Friendship League.

At the function, Modi noted that the 93-year-old man remembers details about Subhash Chandra Bose and said he has asked Indian Ambassador to Japan Deepa Wadhwa to depute a highly professional video team to be with him for a month and interview him.

Cook says will not quit as England ODI skipper

In spite of suffering a three-nil series loss to India, England skipper Alastair Cook has said that he is not thinking of quitting as one-day captain.

Tuesday’s nine-wicket loss was the latest of three heavy defeats only five months before next year’s Cricket World Cup.

The BBC quoted Cook, as saying that he was still very hungry to lead the side, but if the ECB management felt otherwise, it was their decision to make.

7 militants killed in Egypt

At least seven militants were killed and six others injured during a military raid in the restive Sinai province of Egypt, a security source said.

The raid was launched after a militant attack left 11 policemen dead in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Sinai’s Sheikh Zuwayed region yesterday, the source added.

The source said that the army has also arrested 11 suspects and destroyed 16 vehicles, 22 motorcycles and 35 houses and shelters belonging to terrorists.

Misbah says his bat to blame for Pakistan’s disastrous tour of Lanka

Pakistan’s cricket captain Misbah-ul Haq has said his failure with the bat was a big factor in his team’s disastrous tour of Sri Lanka.

Pakistan was beaten 2-0 in the Tests and lost the three match one-day series 2-1 in August, reports Sport24.

Veteran Misbah has held Pakistan’s frail batting order together since being appointed captain in 2010, and was the world’s leading scorer in one-day cricket last year with 1 373 runs.

However in Sri Lanka, the 40-year-old scored just 67 runs each in both Tests and one-dayers.

PM concludes successful Japan visit, leaves for home

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today left for home after concluding a successful visit here during which Japan promised to give $35 billion to India over the next five years for developmental projects.

The two countries also decided to enhance cooperation in defence and other strategic areas. They signed five pacts covering defence exchanges, cooperation in clean energy, roads and highways, healthcare and women while vowing to take their relationship to a new level.

10-day RSS conclave in Lucknow in October

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will hold a 10-day conclave here in October, an official said Wednesday.

Obama sanctions 350 additional military personnel for Iraq

US President Barack Obama has authorised sending another 350 military personnel to Iraq, the White House said adding that this is to secure American diplomatic facilities and personnel in Baghdad from the terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

“These additional forces will not serve in a combat role,” the White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.

“The President has made clear his commitment to doing whatever is required to provide the necessary security for US personnel and facilities around the world,” he said.

IS video claims beheading of another American journalist

A chilling video of beheading of another American journalist, Steven Sotloff, was today posted on social media by Syria and Iraq-based terrorist group, Islamic State (IS).

American officials said the autheticity of the video is being checked by the US intelligence.

The video titled “A second message to America,” shows the beheading of Sotloff, who is seen saying that he is “paying the price” for US intervention in Iraq.

It also threatens the life of British captive David Haines.

US warplanes drop leaflets on Iraqi city

US warplanes Tuesday dropped thousands of leaflets on the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, urging residents to keep clear of places occupied by the Islamic State (IS) extremist group that overran the city in June.

The leaflets were signed by the Iraqi ministry of defence and warned that IS-occupied areas may be targeted in bombing raids. Mosul residents were likewise advised to evacuate homes located near potential targets.

JNTU convocation tomorrow

Rains put an end to power crisis: GENCO CMD

Telangana Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao on Tuesday clarified that there was no shortage of power in the State.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Prabhakar Rao said with copious rainfall in the State, the hydel power stations were generating additional power. He also pointed out while the State needed 120 million units of power every day to cater to the needs of the consumer, some 140 million units of power was being generated. (NSS)
