Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced that his party has agreed to resume talks for the continuation of democracy, media reported Wednesday.

Speaking to the journalists following a late night meeting Tuesday with negotiators, Qureshi said the negotiating teams will meet again at former interior minister Rehman Malik’s residence at 4 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from where they had left off, Geo News reported.

BJP MLA shot at in Delhi, escapes unhurt

A Delhi BJP MLA was called out of his home and thrice shot at Wednesday. The bullets whizzed past him and he escaped unhurt, the police said.

Jitender Singh Shunty was shot at three times here, police said.

The incident took place outside Shunty’s home in Shahdara in east Delhi around 6 a.m. Shunty was elected to the Delhi assembly from the Shahdara assembly segment.

Police sources said an unidentified man on a motorcycle and wearing a helmet called out Shunty, asking him to attest some documents.

SC dismisses plea of Nithyananda against potency test

Controversial self-proclaimed godman Nithyananda will have to undergo potency test in a 2010 rape case with the Supreme Court today dismissing his plea challenging the Karnataka High Court’s order directing him to take the medical test.

A bench headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai refused to give any relief to Nithyananda.

The bench while hearing the case had on August 20 questioned the controversial godman for his reluctance to undergo the test, saying such examinations are becoming necessary day-by-day in view of rise in rape cases.

Sania-Cara in US Open semifinal

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black hardly broke a sweat as they entered the US Open women’s doubles semifinals after their rivals retired midway through the quarterfinal match here.

Sania and Cara, seeded third, defeated the Kazakh-Chinese pairing of Zarina Diyas and Yi-Fan Xu 6-1 1-0 (retd) in 45 minutes to make the last four stage.

They will now face the Swiss-Italian team of Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta. Hingis and Pennetta upstaged fifth seeds Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik 6-4 6-3 in their last-eight match.

Love failure drives youth to suicide

Failed in love, a youth committed suicide under Raedurgam police station limits. 29-year-old CH Sumit Kumar was a private employee. He resided at Manikonda. Sumit Kumar had a love affair with a girl however the girl’s marriage was settled at some other place. Dejected over this Sumit hanged himself to death. Investigations are underway.

3 big eggplants

1 Tbsp ginger-garlic paste

2 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp coriander powder

Salt to taste

Juice of 2 lemons

2 onions, chopped

4 green chillies, chopped

1 ginger, chopped

4 Tbsp fresh coriander, chopped

1 cup mustard oil

1 tsp garam masala powder

For the tomato chutney:

3 tomatoes

1 tsp ginger, chopped

1 tsp green chilli, chopped

2 tsp coriander, chopped

1/2 tsp sugar

Kolhapuri Crispy Bhindi

Ingredients:

¼ kg lady finger
3-4 tablespoons gram flour
2-3 tablespoons red chilli powder
½ tablespoon chat masala
Oil for deep frying

Method:

Wash and dry lady finger and trim both ends. Now cut them into 3 long pieces and make a thin slit on each of them.

Put the pieces in a bowl, add gram flour, chilli powder, salt and mix them well until each piece is well coated.

Deep fry the pieces until they turn golden & crisp and remove them on a tissue paper. Serve them along with spring onion flowers, carrot and tomato slices.

The US is appalled by the brutal murder of another American journalist, if a video purporting his beheading by the Islamic State terrorists is genuine, the Obama administration has said.

“We have seen a video that purports to be the murder of US citizen Steven Sotloff by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The intelligence community is working as quickly as possible to determine its authenticity,” National Security Council Spokesperson Bernadette Meehan said.

Several injured in Japan steel plant explosion

At least six people were today rushed to hospital after an explosion at a steel plant in central Japan, media reported.

Television pictures showed clouds of black smoke billowing from the Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal facility in Tokai, with one broadcaster reporting 12 people had been hurt in the blast.

A spokesman at the Aichi prefectural police said the fire department had been alerted to a problem at the plant at 12:46 pm (0346 GMT).

“A fire broke out although we still don’t know if there was an explosion yet. Several people seem to be injured,” he said.

Japan effect: Now Chinese firms to team-up with Indian firms for rail projects

Chinese firms are teaming with Indian companies to jointly bid for five high-speed railway projects in India in an apparent attempt to compete with Japan’s plans to build bullet trains.

The Indian government will soon open the projects for public bidding and Tata Projects, one of the fastest growing infrastructure companies in India, is in discussions with an undisclosed Chinese company that owns the advanced technology used in the bid, state-run China Daily reported on Wednesday.

2G scam: CBI Director dragged into another controversy in apex court

CBI Director Ranjit Sinha was today at the centre of a controversy with an NGO telling the Supreme Court that entry register of his residence portrays a “very disturbing” and “explosive material” coming in the way of administration of justice in 2G spectrum allocation scam.

The issue was raised by the NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), one of the PIL petitioners on whose plea 122 licences for 2G spectrum were cancelled by the apex court.

Apple denies iCloud breach behind celeb accounts being hacked

Apple has admitted that hackers breached into celeb accounts, but denied that their iCloud system wasn’t breached.

The company said that thieves stole celebrity photos from Apple accounts by targeting individuals, rather than by breaking into the company’s infrastructure, Washington Times reported.

According to the official statement, after more than 40 hours of investigation, they found that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions, a practice that has become all too common on the Internet.

Women are usually considered shopaholics and big spenders, but a new survey has found that men spend more per month than women on shopping online.

According to a survey by Gopaisa.com, the first cashback site in India, almost twice the number of men shop online as compared to women, as 60 percent of the orders placed online in a month, are by men.

Aman Jain, Director of Gopaisa.com, revealed that nearly 80 percent of their user base is men, and their average logins are once every week while female customers logins are twice a week.

A new study has revealed that British Muslim women who wear a hijab generally have more positive body image, are less reliant on media messages about beauty ideals, and place less importance on appearance than those who do not wear a hijab.

According to the study, these effects appear to be driven by use of a hijab specifically.

Researcher Viren Swami said that while people shouldn’t assume that wearing the hijab immunizes Muslim women from negative body image , the study does suggest that wearing the hijab may help some women reject prescriptive beauty ideals.

Pakistan: 910 militants killed since June

Pakistan’s military says it has killed 910 suspected militants and lost 82 soldiers in a major offensive launched in June in a restive tribal region near Afghanistan.

The military statement released on Wednesday says it has cleared the main towns of Miran Shah, Mir Ali, Datta Khel, Boya and Degan, all former militant strongholds in North Waziristan, since June 15, when it launched a major operation there to eliminate local and foreign insurgents accused of orchestrating attacks in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Gold a Shade Higher in Futures Trade on Global Cues

Gold prices rose 0.16 per cent to Rs. 27,765 per 10 grams in futures trading today as speculators enlarged positions amidst a rebound in global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in December moved up by Rs. 43, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs. 27,765 per 10 grams in a business turnover of six lots.

Similarly, the yellow metal for delivery in far-month October traded higher by Rs. 25, or 0.09 per cent, to Rs. 27,579 per 10 grams in 218 lots.
