Hyderabad Water Board warns seizing property of bill defaulters

The city Water Board is set to single out big defaulters. Armed with powers to attach immobile and movable properties, the Water Board will first zero in on consumers yet to be paid more than Rs 50,000.

There are over 9,300 big defaulters who owe Rs 50,000-Rs 1 crore to the Board. These are majority consumers, whose connections have been severed for non-payment.

For this, a special team was formed by the Water Board that will specifically deal with the big defaulters. There are more than 70 defaulters who are indebted the board over Rs 1 crore.

TS Govt firm on waiving off weavers’ loans

Information Technology Minister K Tarakama Rao on Wednesday said that the State Government was firm on waiving off weavers’ loan up to Rs 1 lakh each.

Speaking to media persons here, KTR said that the TRS Government would waive off the loans of weavers and it would cost nearly Rs 15-20 crore on the State’s exchequer. He said that the governement was taking all measures to support the weavers in the State. He said there were nearly 50,000 people are associated with about 36,000 power looms in Telangana.

Aus ready to ink uranium export deal with India

Prime Minister Tony Abbott today said he plans to sign a nuclear co-operation agreement with India that would allow Australia to sell uranium to the country when he meets his counterpart Narendra Modi this week.

Abbott said that he hoped the trip would strengthen Australia’s trade relationship with India in areas including mining, finance and education, while signalling a deal was in the offing to sell uranium and help India meet soaring demand for electricity.

Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who went missing in early August, has been found dead after an attack by Ukrainian troops against a column of refugees in eastern Ukraine, the Russian Investigative Committee reported Wednesday.

A Tennessee-based inventor has come up with an odor-eliminating ‘Fresh Air’ toilet seat.

According to the Fresh Air Kickstarter campaign, inventor Adam Payz’s toilet seat has a built-in fan that immediately starts removing odors through a hose as soon as the user sits down, Mashable reported.

Measuring the levels of sex hormones in blood may identify those likely to suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, a heart rhythm disorder that is fatal in 95 per cent of patients, scientists, including one of Indian-origin, have found.

Researchers found that lower levels of testosterone, the predominant male sex hormone, were found in men who had a sudden cardiac arrest.

Higher levels of estradiol, the major female sex hormone, were strongly associated with greater chances of having a sudden cardiac arrest in both men and women.

Married woman raped by doctor

A 32-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a doctor at Miranpur town here, police said today.

The incident took place October 23 last year, and according to a complaint lodged by the victim, an FIR was registered yesterday against and the accused doctor, identified as Abdul Kalam, was arrested, they said.

While the victim, belonging to another community was produced in a court here, which recorded her statement under section 164 of the CrPC, the main accused Kalam has been sent to jail, according to SHO, Kamal Yadav.
