US journalist Steven Sotloff, whose videotaped murder by the jihadist Islamic State group shocked the world, also held Israeli nationality, Israeli media reported today.

The Haaretz newspaper cited a foreign ministry spokesman as saying that Sotloff, 31, held dual citizenship, although the ministry made no immediate comment when contacted by AFP.

Public radio reported that Sotloff’s family, who live in Miami, Florida, is Jewish and that he had studied in Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv.

Six people, including a BSF inspector, were killed Wednesday due to landslides and flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Dozens of families were rescued and shifted to safer places.

New Kerala governor Sathasivam to be sworn-in Friday

Former chief justice of India P. Sathasivam will be sworn-in as the new Kerala governor Friday.

A Raj Bhavan source told IANS that the swearing-in ceremony will take place at 9.30 a.m. Friday.

Sathasivam replaces Sheila Dikshit who resigned last week.

Dikshit will be given a farewell and a guard of honour at the airport here at 10.30 a.m. Friday, according to an official communication from the Kerala government.

Dikshit, who was sworn in March 11, had replaced Nikhil Kumar.

Owaisi asks Jammu daily to apologize

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi Wednesday said he will file a defamation case against a Jammu newspaper if it failed to apologize for carrying a false report.

The MP from Hyderabad stated this after the daily reported that a poster was doing the rounds in social media in which Owaisi has asked Indian Muslims to join Pakistani forces if India attacks Pakistan.

“My lawyer will send legal notice to the paper. If they apologize, it is fine; if not I will file a defamation suit against them,” he said in a message on micro blogging site Twitter.
