Army starts operation to restore road connectivity in Poonch

The Indian Army has undertaken a massive day and night operation to restore the road connectivity in flood hit Kashmir.

One of the most important roads of the Poonch Defence was totally washed away by heavy rains and flood that hit the area on September 2. The five kilometer road also served as an important link for more than 30 thousand residents of the area.

There is no other structure of road at the Khanater and Dalera area of Poonch.

Akbaruddin Owaisi flays Yogi Adityanath, says lovers can’t be called ‘jihadis’

All India Majlis-e Ittihad al-Muslimin leader Akbaruddin Owaisi today hit out at Yogi Adityanath over his alleged “love jihad” comments and said that people who love cannot be called “jihadis”.

“When people are in love, whatever caste they may be, it is only about love between them. How can love be equated with jihad? If you can make atrocious comments, then be prepared to hear the same degree of comments from us as well,” he said while addressing a gathering of the minority community here ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

Former MP Mahant Avaidyanath passes away, PM Narendra Modi condoles

Former MP Mahant Avaidyanath, who had been at the forefront of the Ram Temple movement in Ayodhya, passed away last night in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, after battling a prolonged illness for the past few months.

Avaidyanath, 95, was the Guru of BJP MP Yogi Adityanath.

He was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon and brought back to Gorakhpur on Friday evening.

“Saddened over the demise of Mahant Avaidyanath. He will be remembered for his patriotic zeal and determined efforts to serve the society,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoling the passing of Avaidyanath.

Polling begins for bypolls in Rajasthan

Amid tight security arrangements, polling began today for the bypolls to the four assembly constituencies in Rajasthan.

Twenthy-three candidates including four each from the ruling BJP and opposition Congress are in the fray in Nasirabad (Ajmer), Weir (Bharatpur), Surajgarh (Jhunjhunu) and Kota South constituencies where 950 polling stations have been set up.

“The polling began in all the constituencies at 7 am,” an election department official said.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polling.

An Indian NGO is working towards eradication of child labour in Afghanistan and providing educational opportunities to them.

Good Weave India, an NGO, founded in 1994 by Human Rights activist Kailash Satyarthi aims to eradicate child labour from the carpet industry in Afghanistan.

It started working in Afghanistan in 2011 to rescue child workers from the carpet industry.

Carpet weaving is done in closed doors by women and children and it is challenging for social workers to get access to these families.

14 children found dead in Srinagar hospital

As the flood waters receded in Kashmir, authorities Saturday said that 14 children were found dead at a hospital here.

State government officials confirmed to IANS 29 deaths have taken place in the Kashmir Vally alone.

Officials Saturday said 14 children had died in the government-run G.B. Pant Hopsital here. The hospital and other major hospitals in the city, including SMHS and the GMC, were inundated in the floods.

Polling under way in Telangana’s Medak Lok Sabha seat

Polling is under way for by-election to the Medak Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana and Nandigama assembly seat in Andhra Pradesh.

Election officials said the polling began in both the constituencies amid tight security at 7 a.m. Voters will be allowed to cast their votes till 6 p.m.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at few places developed snag, resulting in the delay in start of the polling process. The officials replaced the faulty EVMs.

No new districts now– KCR makes it clear

Actress Elizabeth Olsen will star opposite Tom Hiddleston in the upcoming Hank Williams biopic ‘I Saw the Light’.

Writer-director Marc Abraham’s movie will chronicle the country music icon’s rise to international fame, and his death at age 29 after years of alcohol abuse, reportedly.

Olsen has been cast as Williams’s wife Audrey Mae. Production on the movie – which is based on the book Hank Williams: The Biography – will begin in Louisiana next month.

Olsen recently starred in the blockbuster ‘Godzilla’, and will soon play the Scarlet Witch in Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

100,000 food packets needed in Kashmir daily for next 5 days: Minister

There is an urgent need to ensure daily supply of 100,000 food packets for next three to five days for the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir, said Minister in the PMO Jitendra Singh.

As many as 30,000 personnel were involved in the rescue operation and have rescued as many as 133,000 people so far, he said here.
