Congress to move SC over Trinamool’s protest against CBI

Claiming that the Trinamool Congress’ protest demonstration against the CBI here was tantamount to contempt of court, the Congress Sunday said it will move the Supreme Court over the issue.

Accusing the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the centre of using the CBI as a political tool, Trinamool leader and West Bengal Law Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya led a demonstration against the agency which is probing the multi-crore-rupee Saradha scam.

Manmohan Singh’s daughter releases book on parents

Manmohan Singh’s daughter Daman Singh Sunday said her book traces the journey of the former prime minister and his wife Gursharan Kaur’s life from the 1930s to 2004.

Speaking after the release of the book “Strictly Personal”, Daman Singh said it talks not just about the two individuals but about the journey of India through Independence.

“The book is not just about two individuals but it also talks about the times of the 1930s. Story of an India that was divided but got freedom… Struggle of a nation to move ahead,” she said at the book launch function.

Delhi court acquits man charged with raping five-yr-old girl

New Delhi: A Delhi court has acquitted a man of the charge of raping a five-year-old girl after the child retracted from her statement.

Additional sessions judge Rajneesh Kumar Gupta freed the man, a resident of Ranjeet Nagar here, saying there was no evidence against him and the victim child deposed in the court that he did not do anything wrong with her.

“From the evidence on record, no substantive evidence has been come on record to prove that the accused has inserted a stick in the private part of the prosecutrix (child).

‘Satyamev Jayate’ to begin from October 5

The third season of Aamir Khan-hosted popular TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is all set to air from next month.

The first promo of the issue-based show made its debut appearance on micro-blogging site Twitter.

“Hey Guys, new season of SMJ starting on 5th October. Check out the new promo. Tell me what you think,” Aamir, 48, tweeted along with the link of the promo.

The first two seasons of ‘Satyamev Jayate’ highlighted the harsh realities of the Indian society. The third season is expected to be different.

Amethi clash: 18 arrested, one media person injured

The District Magistrate of Amethi Jagatraj Tripathi, on Sunday informed that 18 people have been arrested so far following the clash between supporters Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and his son Anant Vikram Singh.

“As soon as we got the information, me and…. rushed to the spot and cleared the road and imposed Section 144. Now there is peace in the area. We will investigate the matter. Till now, 18 have been arrested and whoever takes the law in his hand we will take strict action against him. This is very unfortunate,” said Tripathi.

Two bogies of local train derail at Mumbai’s CST, no casualties

Two bogies of a local passenger train derailed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai on Sunday.

A railway official, who confirmed the report, said that no casualties or injuries have been reported. The official added that investigations are on to find out the reason behind the derailment.

Three security men killed in Pakistan militant attack

At least three security men were killed in a militant attack in the restive North Waziristan tribal region in Pakistan Sunday, a media report said.

Official sources said that scores of rockets were fired at the Spinwam Security Fort on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing three Pakistani soldiers and injuring two others, Dawn online reported.

Madrassas give ‘education of terrorism’: BJP MP

In controversial remarks, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj on Sunday alleged that madrassas were giving “education of terrorism”.

“Education of terrorism is being given in madrassas. They (madrassas)… are making them terrorists and jihadis…. It is not in national interest,” the MP from Unnao constituency told reporters in Nademau in Kannauj district, 120 km from here.

He alleged that students were not being taught about nationalism in the religious schools. “Tell me about one madrassa where tricolour is hoisted even on August 15 and January 26,” he said.

Kidnapped boy found dead

A seven-year old Nishant, who was allegedly abducted by unidentified culprits three days ago, was found dead on Raghunathapalem Bypass road.

It may be mentioned here that Nishanth was kidnapped from outside his relative’s home in Khammam on September 11. This morning, the body of the boy was found in the Balapeta river. The boy’s parents, residing at Jeedimetla in Hyderabad, went to their relative home. He was reportedly abducted while playing outside his relative’s home on Tuesday.

With sister-in-law Kate Middleton suffering from severe morning sickness, Prince Harry has called off his 30th birthday bash.

Harry, who turns 30 tomorrow, had invited close friends to a mini banquet last night at Kate and Prince William’s newly refurbished apartment in Kensington Palace.

Last week, he contacted his guests and announced he felt it was “inappropriate” to carry on with the party in light of Kate’s illness, The Mirror reported.

President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday said the use of Hindi and regional languages must be encouraged.

Speaking at a function organised on the occasion of ‘Hindi Divas’ at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, he said, “The constitution provides that Hindi should be developed in such a way that it should reflect India’s composite culture. Hindi has therefore been entrusted with a very important role.

Explosives seized in Bihar

A large quantity of explosives were on Sunday seized from a forest near Bhim Bundh in Bihar’s Munger district, a police officer said.

Acting on a tip off, a team of security forces led by CRPF Deputy Commandant Gunjan Kumar carried out a combing operation and seized 2,000 kg of ammonium nitrate contained in 40 sacks weighing 50 kg each, Superintendent of Police Varun Kumar Sinha said.

The explosives were hidden under a heap of leaf, he said.
