Division of corporations – new conflict in A.P. and Telangana

Several conflicts have emerged on the issue of bifurcation of various corporation and other departments between A.P. and Telangana States. Chief Secretary of A.P. Mr.IYR Krishna Rao wrote a letter to Governor complaining about unilateral decisions that are being taken by Govt. of Telangana in renaming the institutions without consulting Govt. of A.P. In the 10th Schedule of A.P. Reorganization Bill 2014, Specific guidelines have been given for the bifurcation of various corporations and other institutions.

VHR condemns attack on Rajdeep

Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Monday condemned the attack on senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai in Madison Square, USA, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address.

Speaking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office here, VHR said that by attacking Rajdeep, the supporters of Modi were trying to threaten the media that they would not tolerate any criticism. Telangana CM congratulates Sania Mirza for winning gold

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated tennis star Sania Mirza today for winning a gold medal in the mixed doubles competition at the Asian Games.

Sania, a brand ambassador for Telangana, made Telangana and the country proud with a gold medal in the mixed doubles category and bronze medal in the doubles category at the Asiad, an official release quoted the Telangana Chief Minister saying.

He wished that Sania must continue her brilliant performance, the release said.

Fifteen Hindu religious leaders including one MLA of the city held a special meeting “Vishal Gow Raksha Garjana” from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Begum Bazar. The meeting was attended by 300 Hindu youths. France, Germany to offer drones to monitor Ukraine truce

France and Germany have offered to deploy drones as part of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) efforts to monitor the ceasefire in Ukraine, a government official said Monday.

At a daily news briefing, French foreign ministry spokesperson Romain Nadal announced “France and Germany have proposed to provide drones aimed at monitoring the ceasefire’s implementation as requested by the OSCE”, Xinhua reported.

The drone deployment proposal was being discussed, he added without elaborating.

Italy on terror alert

Italy was put on a high level of alert for possible terrorist attacks even though no specific threats have been made, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Monday.

“The alert for Italy is high, even in the absence of a specific threat,” ANSA news agency quoted Alfano as saying on the sidelines of a security conference in Brussels.

“This is because Italy is part of the big international coalition that is combatting terrorism, because it is the seat of Christianity (in Rome) and because of other important decisions that parliament has made in recent months,” the minister said.

Requested US not to repeat Iraq mistake in Afghanistan: Modi

India has requested the US not to repeat its mistake of Iraq and instead withdraw gradually from Afghanistan till the country is able to stand on its own in order to prevent the Taliban from again becoming powerful, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday.

To a question after his address at the Council of Foreign Relations here, Modi said the US and India “should believe how to work for each other’s benefit”.

He said when he met US Secretary of State John Kerry, he explained to him at great length that Afghanistan is a big example where the two countries can work together.

Hostages in Philippines plead for their lives

Two German hostages held by the Philippine Islamic group Abu Sayyaf appealed for their lives Monday, urging authorities in Berlin to pay a ransom and withdraw support from the international military operation against Islamic State (IS) militia in Iraq.

“I’m suffering a lot because I was taken hostage… and now I have to lay on the ground, to sleep on the ground… and my medical condition worsened, and I fear a lot for myself,” said the older of the two hostages, a 74-year-old man, in an interview with Radio Mindanao Network (RMN), media reported.

Hundreds of bodies found in Ukraine mass graves: Rebels

Some 400 bodies, mostly of civilians, were taken to the morgues of Donetsk and other cities in eastern Ukraine now controlled by pro-Russian rebel militias after they were retrieved from mass graves, the insurgents said Monday.

“Currently there are about 400 bodies in morgues, 350 of which are of civilians, and many are in such a state that they cannot be identified,” said the deputy prime minister of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk, Andrei Purgin.

UN chief wants earliest formation of new Afghan government

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Monday congratulated Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on his inauguration as the new Afghan president and called for a new Afghanistan government’s formation at the earliest.

Ghani was sworn in Monday, marking the first ever peaceful power transition in the history of the conflict-ridden country.

“The secretary-general notes the serious challenges facing Afghanistan and calls for the new government to be formed quickly and to work with all Afghans in a spirit of national unity,” Xinhua quoted a spokesperson of the UN chief as saying in a statement.

Over 2,000 Germans volunteer to help battle Ebola

Over 2,000 Germans have heeded the government’s call to register as volunteers for deployment to fight the Ebola virus disease outbreak in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the African Union (AU) said in a statement Monday.

German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, informed this to AU Commission Chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, after the chairperson briefed him on AU’s ongoing efforts to fight the disease, Xinhua reported.

The two officials met on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, said the statement.

UN mission congratulates new Afghan president

The UN mission in Afghanistan Monday welcomed the inauguration of new President Ashraf Ghani and reaffirmed the world body’s commitment to cooperate with the national unity government in the country’s progress to peace, stability and development.

Vadodara remains tense after communal clashes; 200 arrested, cops transferred

No untoward incident was reported in the city on Monday, which witnessed clashes between two communities over the last four days, but the situation remained tense amid a large police presence.

Violence erupted in Yakutpura, Panjrapole, Fatehpura and Kumbharvada in the city on Thursday over some derogatory posts about a religion on a social networking site.

There were incidents of stone pelting, looting, arson and stabbing, mostly in the old city which has a mixed population.

However, no violence was reported on Monday, police said.
