Gayle eyeing selection for India Tests

Explosive West Indian opener Chris Gayle believes he will overcome injury in time for the three-Test cricket series in India which starts next month.

The attacking left-hander was not considered for selection for the second Test against Bangladesh earlier this month or the one-day series in India starting next week, because of a recurring back injury, reports CMC.

However, Gayle said rehabilitation was going well and he expected to be fully fit and available for selection soon.

Govt buses can’t display election ads: EC

As Maharashtra and Haryana go for Assembly polls next month, the Election Commission today ruled out allowing display of election advertisements on government transport buses, saying the party in power can use it to its advantage and disturb the level playing field.

In a communication to Chief Electoral Officers of all states, the EC referred to the issue of allowing election- related advertisements on state road transportation and municipal corporation buses.

Withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan should be slow, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the withdrawal of American troops from strife-ridden Afghanistan should be done very slowly.

Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Prime Minister Modi said, “I have requested the US to not make the same mistake as was made in Iraq, when American troops were withdrawn too quickly. The withdrawal process in Afghanistan should be very slow.”

Argentine crowned world youth chess champion

Argentine Alan Pichot was crowned the under-16 world champion after beating Russian Maxim Litvinov during the World Youth Chess Championship in Durban, South Africa.

The 16-year-old became the youngest Argentine to achieve this result in the last 22 years, finishing the meet with nine points from 11 games, half more than his closest rivals, reports Xinhua.

Pichot ended with nine wins and two losses.

The departure of Hajj pilgrims through State Hajj Committee ended on Monday with 83 aspirants setting off from Mumbai for Jeddah. Saudi Airlines had arranged flight from Mumbai for the pilgrims who were selected at the last moment from the waiting list. Two special flights were arranged for the aspirants of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh besides those of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh selected from the waiting list.

Obstruction in transporting big animals – Saleem complains

A delegation of Jamiatul Quraish led by Mr. Mohammed Saleem, MLC (TRS) met the CM of Telangana State Mr. KCR and complaint that under the pretext of protection of cow slaughter, some miscreants are obstructing the transportation of big animals which is illegal. He clarified that Bullocks and Buffalos are being transported since there is a complete ban on cow slaughter. He alleged that police is encouraging these miscreants.

Ban on transfers of A.P. Employees

Water supply from Krishna – KCR orders to complete the work before October

CM of Telangana Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao has instructed the officials to complete “Water Grid Survey” work relating to water supply from Krishna River before the end of October 2014 for which Rs. 317 crore have been allotted. Water Grids would be constructed in all the districts of Telangana utilizing this amount. Supply of water from Krishna River is being considered seriously. Mr. KCR instructed the officials to formulate plans to ensure the supply of 100 liters of water in every house in rural areas and 150 liters in urban areas daily.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Monday lashed out at militant Islamists in a speech at the UN, saying Palestinian militant group Hamas and the Islamic State (IS) “share a fanatical creed”.

“ISIS and Hamas are branches of the same poisonous tree,” Xinhua quoted him as saying in an address at the general debate of UN General Assembly, using an alternate acronym for the extremist group. “When it comes to their ultimate goals, Hamas is ISIS and ISIS is Hamas. And what they share in common, all militant Islamists share in common.”

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte Monday emphasised the importance of an independent investigation into the MH17 jet crash in eastern Ukraine.

He made the remarks at a press conference here while responding to the Russian claims that the first preliminary report on the cause of the crash was biased.

Dutch Safety Board led the investigation into the cause of the crash of the Boeing 777-200 operated by Malaysia Airlines July 17 this year.

Nearly 300,000 people uprooted in Ukraine: UN

Nearly 300,000 people have been displaced in Ukraine, with more than five million people living in conflict-affected areas, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said here Monday.

The official was quoting information from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

“Humanitarian needs in areas under the control of armed groups are reportedly significant, with local organisations and Red Cross teams having nearly exhausted their supplies and with only limited amounts of aid having been delivered due to insecurity,” Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.

MBBS admissions counseling today

Implementing the orders of Supreme Court issued on 18th September, NTR Health University has decided to start counseling for admissions into MBBS course today. The counseling will start at 11 a.m. today at NTR Health University, Vijaywada and JNTU Hyderabad simultaneously. Amit Shah rules out post-poll alliance with INLD

BJP President Amit Shah today ruled out chances of any post-poll alliance with former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala’s INLD in case of fractured verdict in next month’s Haryana assembly polls.

At the same time, he asserted that BJP would form the government in the state on its own.

Seeking a clear mandate in favour of his party to put Haryana on higher growth trajectory, Shah, who was addressing a poll meeting in Ambala, sought to clear the air on the possibility of having any sort of tie-up with INLD after the October 15 polls.
